PART 2
Rudra Singh Oberoi looked at his elder brothers walk towards him wearing the very T shirt he and Sowmya gifted them four months ago. Shivay and Omkara's T shirts read "To-Be-Bade papa. Similar T-shirts with respective relationship with the baby to be born was distributed to every family member.
Sowmya planned it all perfectly to give the surprise a dramatic effort. She first gifted them all T shirts and then planned an elaborate dinner on a Saturday evening where everyone was supposed to wear the said T shirt. Rudra could still not erase the image of smiling faces, having realized the meaning behind the T shirt , saunter towards them happily. The overload of hugs and kisses that Rudra encountered that day was more than his one year quota.
Rudra was ecstatic from the moment he learned that he was going to be a father. A small baby to play with him, a small baby who he can spoil, a small baby he can take to gym, a small baby he can flaunt to his friends and the list continued. Rudra loved his nieces and nephew. However, he always had to endure thousand lines rule book from his brothers before he could take his nieces and nephew out with him. But, now he is the DADDY', so no more rules, only fun. Rudra was so looking forward for his chotu sa baby soon.
The things did begin to alter and fear engulfed him owing to various incidents that happened post the big revelation.
"Rudra, you are not a bacha anymore. You are going to be a father soon.
Rudra initially laughed every time he heard his family say this. But, soon the same line began to give him doubts.
"Sumo, you do remember chubby's party right? Be ready at 9. He informed his wife one day
"Rudra. Sowmya called her husband's attention with a chuckle. "We can't go. She said
"Why? asked Rudra looking away from his laptop
"Why? Don't you know? she asked patting her baby bump. "Doctor advised strict diet with timely sleep. I don't think that meant gobbling pizzas and partying till late night. Anyways I don't think I can stand smell of alcohol.
Rudra made a thoughtful face recollecting doctor's words. Did she say no party?
"And I guess even you shouldn't go Rudra.
"Why?
"What do you mean why? You are the father. You have responsibilities. You should cut down on your old life style.
"Sumo, I don't think me going to party has anything to do with baby. He argued
"Oh! Are you suggesting that since I am the one carrying the baby only I should face all the restrictions and you will continue living the same?
"That is not what I meant.
"I don't see any other meaning here.
"Sowmya, what is wrong with you? Why are you always trying to find a way to fight with me?
"I am not Rudra. It is just you behaving as if baby is only my responsibility irks me.
"I am not behaving like that.
"Oh yeah!! Don't you remember how you complained that doctor's appointment interfered with your gym time?
"For past thirteen months my gym time is same and you know that. I just asked you why you took doctor's appointment at that time.
"See, now gym is more important than baby?
"It is not that...
"Shut up, Rudra. Don't talk to me.
Rudra was sure Sowmya was exaggerating everything. Perhaps, a bit jealous even at not being able to attend the party. So, Rudra didn't believe that he should change his life style until he was told by the two most trusted members of the house, his bhabhis.
"Rudy, I think Sowmya is right. Said Annika looking at her brother in law's pouting face. "Things change after fatherhood and you should be ready for it.
"But, bhabhi, I am ready. I just don't understand what harm in meeting friends?
"Rudy, your priorities shift. Baby is most important. You can't be same carefree Rudra anymore.
"Does that mean I should sacrifice everything? he asked
"It is not sacrifice, Rudy bhaiya. Interjected Gauri. " It is just little adjustments. Do you remember how Omkaraji had to shift all his art supplies out of room when Ved was born? Because for him Ved is important more than art that he loves.
"And Shivay... Annika added. "He hardly shouts at anyone when Vani and Shreya are around. He has become Shaant Singh Oberoi. This is what all fathers do, Rudra.
That is when Rudra realized his life was up for complete 360 degree shift. And strangely, Rudra was so not looking forward for his chotu sa baby so soon.
"What's up, daddy dearest? asked Shivay patting Rudra's shoulder while sitting beside him on the couch.
Shivay and Omkara were celebrating Rudra becoming father even after months. For them it was like seeing their baby become a father. So, every Obro hang out ever since saw them wearing the same Tshirt.
"Are you preparing for baby's arrival well? asked Omkara.
This prompted Omkara and Shivay to share with Rudra some advice from their own experience. They were going on talking without realizing that their talks were making Rudra's head spin.
"Bas, bhaiya. Rudra shouted rather loudly that immediately caught his brothers' attention.
"What is it, Rudy? asked Omkara placing his hand on Rudra's shoulder.
Shivay and Omkara were natural go-to-while-in-trouble' persons for Rudra. So, he didn't hesitate a moment before confessing his fears to them.
"Rudy, don't be a kid. Shivay admonished hearing Rudra's thoughts
A frown formed on Rudra's face and he stood up from his seat.
"I am not a kid, bhaiya. He argued. "Should you match every problem of mine with me being a kid or irresponsible? Don't you see my problems as genuine ones?
Omkara and Shivay, who stood on their foot by now, tried to console Rudra. But he shrugged off his brother's hold and walked out of there wordlessly. Omkara and Shivay looked at each other worriedly wondering what happened to their baby brother.
