When The Dreams Came True

"Sab hamari galti hai. Hame waha jana hi nahi chahiye tha. Hamari wajah se unka sar sharm se jhuk gaya."

"Kyu aayi tum yaha Gauri? Tumhe yaha nahi aana chahiye tha. Ye log tumhe nahi samajh sakte aur tumhari beijaati... mere dil se bardasht nahi hoti."

Two people cried their feelings out over the same thing - of her being at the exhibition but for different reasons. She was in pain because she felt being a cause of his humiliation which was the last thing she ever wanted and he was hurt because, she had to hear and bear the things she did not deserve.

Yes, she wasn't the one among from the so called society to be fashionable. Yes, she wasn't the one who could chant English phrases like others from the so called modern society. She was Gauri Kumari Sharma from Bareily, who wore traditional clothes, who neither knew proper English nor was keen on faking anything but who knew what family is, who did everything she could to bring his brother and his wife together as if they were more a her family than her husband's. She was Gauri who jumped in the ring, risking her life for the sake of his family's respect and pride when he couldn't make it. She was the Gauri, Omkara Singh Oberoi would always be proud of.

"Aap?"

She was quick enough to rub her eyes, turning around to wipe those tears on her cheeks.

Could he be any less amazed? She always tried to hide her pain from him, like she was doing today. It was almost midnight, he returned from the exhibition. To reflect more truth, he had left from there long before and was wandering on roads to figure out the reason behind insane ache in his heart and it seemed like he found his answer which automatically brought his steps back to his home, home where she was.

"Hame maaf kar dijiye."

"I am sorry."

The unison of their words left them surprised, and amused. She was into setting her hairs which she had messed up during spending hours in sobbing and weeping which is why she did not realized when his steps approached her and he stood at almost a hand distance from her.

"Hamari galti hai. Hame nahi ana chahiye tha. Ham aap jaise nahi hai, Omkara Ji. Hame English nahi ati. Ham aapke layak hi nahi hai. Hamari wajah se..." She left her words incomplete when she found a peaceful silence on another end. Probably she should just stay quiet, she thought. She has already messed up so many things in his life.

"Done? Go on if there is more." Folding his hands, he showed as if he was waiting if she was willing to continue. Weird, was what she felt. She nodded negatively, fixing her gaze to the ground.

"Zaroori nahi hai har baar, har baat ke liye khud ko blame karna." He started and ended within seconds allowing her the time she needed to sink it in.

"Jo hua, nahi hona chahiye tha. Tumhe bura laga hoga, jaanta hu aur uske liye mafi bhi mangta hu."

"Nahi Omkara Ji. Bura to laga hai lekin isliye kyuki aapko sharminda hona pada. Shayad aap sahi the, hamesha se jo aapne hame apni patni nahi mana. Ham ek se nahi. Hamare beech me bohot si aisi cheeze hai jo hame kabhi barabar, ek sath nahi khada kar sakti."

Omakara laughed slightly. He was a man adoring words but she could give a tough competition to him for sure, he thought.

"Right. Hamare beech aisi bohot cheeze hai jo hame ek sath nahi khada hone degi kyunki mai chah kar bhi kabhi tumhari barabari nahi kar sakta. Gauri you know what, tum bohot achhi ho, hamesha se thi lekin pata nahi kyu mai dekh nahi paya ya kaho dekhna nahi chahta tha. Sahi kaha, maine tumhe kabhi meri patni nahi mana lekin... ab manna chahta hu. Tumhe har ek haq dena chahta hu jo mujhe bohot pehle dena chahiye tha. Tumhe har wo khushi dena chahta hu jo maine tumhe diye hue gamo ko mita de. Tumhare sath chalna chahta hu hamesha... agar tum chalne dena chaho to."

Standing still from the moment he started pouring his heart out to her, she did not know if it was real because what he said sounded absolutely dreamy, something she always wanted to hear from her life partner but deep inside she knew this moment would never come in her life but now when it had, she did not know how to react.

"Aap ese... achanak?" It was strange, undoubtedly it was - the sudden change in his behavior.

"Achanak nahi Gauri, bohot time laga realize karne me ke tum mere zindagi me kya mayne rakhti ho. Sach me, bohot time lag gaya. He was being truthful.

"Kyu?"

He stepped forward. Taking her hand, he settled it on his chest. "Kyuki ye dil ab tumhare bina zindagi se inkar karta hai. Kyuki ab ye har pal tumhare sath jeena chahta hai. Kyuki ye tumhe haste hue dekhna chahta hai. Kyuki ye tumhe chahta hai."

She didn't realize that her emotions had overpowered her till she saw tears falling on the ground. She could only feel herself melting in his confession. Removing whatever space there was in between them, she let him carry her entire weight as she leaned onto him, living the moment she always had dreamt of - of her husband cherishing her. He did not take any time to wrap his arms around her, embracing his petite wife whom he vowed that night to keep away from every agony, every hurt, every pain. He wouldnt allow any thing which can upset her. She has had seen a lot, has been through a lot. Not anymore, not anymore!

Each time a problem would try to step towards her, he would stand in between, her protector.

Each time, someone would try to get in her way to hurt her, he would stand in between, her shield.

Each time she would need anything, she would have it right there, her husband would do anything to bring one smile on her face.

"You are the dream, I never thought could come real."
