CHAPTER ONE
PRESENT
Getting out of his black jaguar , while the driver held his door open for him , he checked his watch for one last time. Five minutes to ten. He was on time. It was a good practice to be on time and he was strict one at that.
Shivaay Singh Oberoi , the CEO of oberoi enterprise Stood arrogantly in-front of his NY office and sneered. He waited for seventeen long years for this day to happen. Mark Smith, his PA, had texted him an hour ago about the meeting with Mr. Shakti Singh Oberoi , his rival. His father. Annabel constructions was to be doomed and he snarled just at the thought of it . Shivaay knew how this meeting was bound to end and it gave him a serene piece of satisfaction.
Straightening his court and maintaining his decorum , he went inside his office to be greeted by a fifty-six year old man , sitting nervously looking at some documents with his spectacles trying hard not to fall off from his nose. Arran looked up to find his son standing with his hands inside his pockets "Shivaay" ? he said warily.
"Its mr. Oberoi for you. Mr. Shakti." Shivaay chuckled deviously, showing his absolute dislike for the old man.
"In that case , mr Oberoi. Please don't ruin my career. I have shares at stake. My company is undergoing a financial loss. You cant take annabel constructions right now. I'll be left on roads."
"All I care is about the company mr. Shakti. Annabel constructions is reaching its end anyways. Its better if I take things in my hands now." Shivaay smiled as he lit his cigar. Shakti Singh Oberoi was a weak man. Monetarily and emotionally. Construction company was all that he had and he couldn't afford to let it go. Only if his son would understand.
"Why" his voice whispered.
"Why you ask me?" Shivaay gave him an intense stare.
"Don't do that son."
"Don't call me that". he yelled. "You better sign the papers now. I don't have whole day for you."
"Shivaay. I am your father. Please."
"Unfortunately, I can't change that" Shivaay chiselled his lips. "Anyway. Mr. Shakti Singh Oberoi. I want it done in next five minutes or it will take me few seconds to bring you and your entire family on streets."
"Legally, Oberoi. I should be given 6 months of time to make me recuperate my losses before I give you my firm. Thereby I shall handover the documents if I fail to compensate financially. I am sorry for the inconvenience"
Shivaay sighed. How did he miss this clause. Of course there was six months period before any takeover. He smiled, upholding the professionalism " Sure. Mr. Shakti. Your abdication can wait for six more months."
...
"He's too evil for a mankind." Shakti took the last sip of his coffee. " I don't know what to do. I cant arrange such huge amount in such small period Tej. The loan company has taken needs to be returned. Employees need salary or they'll quit. I am ruined. I see no way out." He sighed. Darkness was overpowering his consciousness as the drink made its way down the body.
"Not yet Shakti. Not yet! Shivaay might be a prodigious player of the corporate world , what he failed to realize that the enemies keep good records. Don't worry. The one thing that has the potential to bring the man down is his old wound. His old acquaintance Anika." The bald man laughed cunningly.
"Hello. Anika?"
It Wasn't until now that Anika was aware of his presence in the city. New York was a busy city and it helped her to focus her mind on anything but this very fact. Seven long years it had been since she last saw him. Since she left him and since she lived and not just existed. However it would be a lie to say that she never saw him for he was pretty famous to be ignored. Shivaay Singh Oberoi was the most eligible bachelor and successful businessman of the year. Anika was so proud of him. But his philandering nature was something new to her. Her Shivaay was never like this. And somewhere deep down she knew she was responsible for this change. Was it that bad? Did she hurt him too much? She wondered; wondered for past seven years. It sure wasn't easy for her. It pained. It hurt to leave him like this. It hurt real bad to leave their relationship in the middle. But did she have any other choice? Honestly, given another life, she would again choose to hurt herself than to see her family suffer. Shivaay was the second most important man in her life ; first stood her family. And it would remain the same for eternity. The chills of a winter morning was always accompanied by a cup of steaming coffee and her little talks with Shivaay , who was adorned on a billboard. It was the only time where she could apologize to him for everything that happened.
"Hello?" Anika Answered the phone, agitated to be interrupted from her self time.
"Its me. Meet me in times square within an hour." The caller cut the call , giving no time for her to respond.
Her breathing became uneven as his voice reverberated in her mind. It was many years later that he called her. And it was never a good news. She wondered what was supposed to come next in her already messed up life. She bid goodbye to Ryan on the board and promised to come back later.
