Chapter 3
The Living Room, Raigarh Fort, 10 PM
"O Bete Ki,"said Rudra as Shivaay and Annika left with the Queen and his father respectively, "Annika Bahbhi is an honest to god royalty, a freaking crown princess, he turned to Omkara with an expression of pure wonder on his face.
"Shivaay is actually going to get a title of a King someday. Oh the horror," Omkara shuddered with shock and wonder. He just could not believe what had just happened a few minutes ago. Yes, Shivaay apologized as he should have and Omkara was happy that he will now get his best friend back. He knew Annika won't change with this whole royalty situation but his brother did not need any help with his sense of entitlement.
"Omkara ji, that is not fair...the Naam, Khoon, Khaandan do not matter to Shivaay Bhaiya anymore. You know that," Gauri defended her beloved Bhaiya, "But Annika Bhabhi did hit the lineage lottery," she said sending a meaningful look at Pinky who stood in the corner with a bitter expression on her face.
"Gauri, my love, you are wrong. Naam, Khoon and Khaandan do not matter to him as far as Annika is concerned because when it comes to Annika all bets are off for Shivaay. Nothing else and no one else matters but Annika that does not mean that his sense of entitlement is reduced. There is an exception of every rule and Annika is the exception for Shivaay because she is his miracle." Omkara explained, " Naam, Khoon, Khaandan are important to him still but Annika has taught him to look beyond that and also judge people by their actions as well. You can't change the basic nature of a person."
"Omkara ji please!" Gauri held up a hand, "This is a joyous occasion. No need to find all the wrongs in this situation."
"Yeah O! Bhabhi is right. Don't spoil the moment,"Rudra agreed with his Bhabhi and then asked, "What is taking them so long? I am getting Michmichi now. I need to know the whole story about Annika Bhabhi being a princess."
"Bhabhi ka Chamcha, "Omkara said but conceded to the fact that it was a joyous occasion indeed. Shivaay had taken a step forward for their relationship, Omkara hoped Annika would too. He owed his father a thank you.
"Now you have no problems with Annika, right Pinky?" She comes from a royal lineage, very well suitable for Shivaay Dadi asked addressing the reason Pinky always gave for. There were no bounds to her happiness. Her Annika bahu was found and she was safe. But Pinky just stood there seething.
"Dadi let it be, Choti Mom is not going to be happy. It was never about Annika's lineage but her own insecurities. She will never be on her side no matter what." Omkara told his grandmother and then asked one of the staff for her rooms.
"Lets go Ma, I will drop you to your room," Jhanvi said as she saw Tej walk in. She was very proud of her husband today. He solved Shivaay's problem just as he had promised her. He wasn't the beast everyone thought he was. He was just very set in his ways.
"Where is Annika?"Omkara asked his father.
"I gave her some food for thought. She is still in the garden." Tej replied simply and then joined his wife because according to him his work was done.
Omkara looked at Bhavya as all the elders retired for the night, "You are uncharacteristically quiet today Bhavya. Omkara remarked, "Is everything okay?"
"Om Bhaiya,"Bhavya began hesitantly, "There is something that have been bugging me since we entered this palace."
"Bhavya now do not start like O, please," Rudra began only to be shushed by Gauri.
"Haan Bhavya," Gauri agreed, "Even I want to know who is getting married?"
"Not that Bhabhi, though it is a good question." Bhavya said.
"Out with it Bhavya," Rudra asked impatiently.
"Why so much security?" Bhavya asked and then clarified when Rudra rolled his eyes at her, "This is not run of the mill royal wedding security. I have done and arranged security for royal weddings before, there is more at play here."
"More mystery equals more michmichi. Rudra said impatiently. His father had left giving them no answers at all. So they have to wait for Shivaay to get their answers.
"I still want to know whose wedding we are attending here?" Gauri chipped in.
"Mine," said a chirpy voice, they all looked in the direction of the voice and saw a girl coming down the stairs. "I am Princess Ragini Pratap Singh, Annika Di's younger sister. OMG I have to tell Vikram about this asap. Who would have thought Jija Sa would be so romantic? I pegged him to be a stuffy, boring and ruthless business man but he is so love whipped."
"Vikram?" Gauri asked.
"He is stuffy and boring, ask Annika Bhabhi,"Rudra said at the same time.
"Vikram is my fiance, and he is a huge Shivaay Singh Oberoi fan. He has been trying to get a peek at Jija Sa's new car his team is building for next Grand Prix to no success at all." Ragini answered.
"Vikram Aditya Thappar, the automotive genius is your fiance and you are Annika's sister?"Omkara confirmed.
"Yes! Is Jija sa back yet with his chat with Maa Sa? I really need to know if he is doing my wedding rituals? "Ragini asked looking in the direction of the study.
"Why would Shivaay do your wedding rituals?"Omkara asked utterly confused.
"Let me explain from the beginning," Ragini said and then told the Oberoi group story of a missing Crown Princess and Kingdom without a male heir.
The Royal Gardens, Raigarh Fort, 10 PM
She had walked these gardens a million times in past three months as they soothed her hurt soul and worried mind. How many times she had to kill the urge to pick up the phone and call him just so she can hear his voice. Last month there was a picture of him on the front page of a leading newspaper regarding a shipping merger with Japanese, she nearly folded in pain when she saw how empty were his kanji eyes. The man in that picture was just a pale shadow of her husband. Still her husband if she believed his words in the hallway. Tonight, she was walking this garden with man she has lived in the same house with but never had a direct conversation with. Tej Singh Oberoi has never made an effort to talk to her in the six months she had lived in the Oberoi mentioned, so she was unsettled that he suddenly wanted to have a conversation with her.
"So, my daughter-in-law is a Crown Princess huh! "Tej began after he was sure that he was out of the earshot of his family and royal guards, "Shivaay will actually have a King as a title soon if I am not wrong...his ego is going to be impossible to manage," Tej commented smiling, making Annika chuckle with him.
"He is going to be insufferable, Tej sir. Can we not tell him?" Annika asked making Tej throw his head back and laugh. She has never seen the formidable senior Oberoi smile and now he was laughing wholeheartedly in front of her. Today was the day of miracles. And then she froze on her spot as his previous statement hit her, "Daughter-in-law? "She whispered shell shocked.
Tej turned to see her as he realized that she was not walking beside him anymore. "Why are you so surprised? You have been an Oberoi bahu for over 9 months now Annika." He said matter of factly.
"I thought you did not approve of me." Annika said tentatively.
"That is not the case at all. I think you are perfect for Shivaay and let me make this clear that I believed that before I knew about your lineage. I am truly sorry if I gave you the impression that I do not like you Annika." Tej clarified.
"You never said anything to make me believe otherwise,"Annika asked in wonder. How many shocks were these Oberoi men going to give her today?
"I usually keep out of my children's business,"Tej said in a way of explanation.
"Then maybe you should interfere a little in your kids life, Tej sir," Annika said hinting at Omkara's complaints of his father never being there for them.
"Om had always had Shivaay and now they both have you," Tej countered, "Even though you are right we are not here to discuss my mistakes...we are here to discuss yours."
"My mistake?" Annika asked.
"Did you really think that I would not know if Shivaay was illegitimate? For someone who is so sensible you were very foolish," Tej said blatantly, "Pinky lied to you and you fell in her trap to separate you from Shivaay. You played right into her hands Annika. "
"She lied...it was all a lie." Annika whispered shocked and angry.
"Yes, she lied. Now you have to fix the mess you have made Annika. I will not see my nephew in pain anymore. And next time that woman decides to tell you a family secret please confirm with me because this is the first and last time I will forgive you for putting my nephew through such crucible. So much pain and hurt I thought he would crumble."Tej went on.
"How am I supposed to tell him that it was all his mother's doing? It will hurt him a lot!"Annika asked shocked.
"If you can come up with a ruse that broke his heart three months ago I am sure you can find a way to tell him the truth." Tej said. "He has every right to know the reason of his heartbreak, you cannot take this decision for both of you because it affected both of you, him a little bit more than you. You atleast knew the reason for pain whereas he had no idea. You owe him the truth Annika. You are underestimating Shivaay and his love for you Annika." Tej said. "And it's time you stopped calling me sir and started calling me Bade Papa just like Shivaay does, "having said his piece Tej left a stunned Annika standing in the garden as he made his way back to the palace. She had a lot of thinking to do about her future.
The Queen's Study, Raigarh Fort, 10 PM
"Where are those divorce papers?" Queen asked Shivaay who was sitting across her in her study getting straight to the point. She wanted this issue sorted without wasting anymore time. She was going to call Tej Singh Oberoi herself but the man beat her to it and all because his head of security had a hunch about Annika being here.
"Annika your daughter? When was she taken away from you and why did it take you so long to find her? "Shivaay answered her question with one of his own.
"I believe I asked the question first,"Queen said.
"Why do you need to know that?" Shivaay asked not giving the Queen an inch. He was not sure of Queen's intentions and he was not going to let anyone between him and Annika anymore, especially not their mothers.
"I think there is a misunderstanding here, let me clear it, I will be doing all the questioning here." The Queen clarified.
"And I will answer the questions that I think are appropriate for you to know. So, please do not waste my time. I would like to go back to my wife. I have seen her after three months," Shivaay countered.
"You wife is the crown princess of Raigarh,"Queen emphasized.
"Doesn't change the fact that she is my wife." We can do this all night your highness. Shivaay sat back and folded his arms silently throwing the challenge.
This man will do, the Queen thought, he will be able to take care of her daughters, her people and her businesses. This man was no pushover when it came to something that was his. Shivaay Singh Oberoi had passed the royal test, so now it was time to tell him the truth, "Let's start from the beginning then, Jamai Sa. We were a small but happy family. Me, my husband and two daughters. Annika was taken away from us when she was five years old by an estranged security officer of the royal staff who was manipulated by my late husband's younger brother. You see in our family the throne transfers to the first born, it does not matter if it is a male or a female. My husband's brother in his greed to sit on the throne destroyed our whole family. He blasted my husband's car when he went to pay the ransom for Annika killing my husband. His plan was then to kill Annika so that his succession with be uncontented. Once the guard came to know about the plans of my brother-in-law he took Annika and ran. Ever since that day we have been looking for her. Time passed and we only had a picture of a five year old to work with. Seven years after that security guard was found but Annika was not there with him. She had run away, he had told us. Then finally last year we tracked her to the orphanage Sahil's father adopted her from. Our team had narrowed down five girls that could have been my daughter one of which was Annika."
A look of shock passed Shivaay's face. This woman had not given up on her family, "You are surprised Jamai Sa?" The Queen asked amused at Shivaay's expression, "Imagine my shock when I learned that my daughter could be the Oberoi Bahu?"
Shivaay just smiled so the Queen continued, "Then the day that my daughter organised her ruse and you kicked her out one of my royal servant was circling the Oberoi Mansion for clues. She came out of the mansion and right under his car," When Shivaay panicked at her statement she quickly added, "Some scratches that's it...she was totally fine." This man was irrevocably in love with her daughter, "But it gave us enough for the DNA test and it was a match. The Queen explained. "Now it's your turn,"
"Those divorce papers are torn apart and shoved in a dark drawer of my closet. Annika is mine and I will not let anyone change that truth," Shivaay answered simply. "She can do whatever she wants with me but there is no space for a third person in our relationship anymore."
"Even if it is your mother? She dislikes Annika. It's very evident."Queen countered.
"Even if it's my mother or hers," Shivaay replied with a very evident threat in his voice.
"Then let's discuss the dangers and duties that come along when you are married to a crown princess." Queen said satisfied with his answer. "If she is the Crown Princess that makes you the Crown Prince of this royalty now. All her titles, duties and business are equally your responsibilities."
"Why not your other son-in-law? The one who is getting married to the younger princess, I assume it's her wedding we are attending."Shivaay asked.
"Vikram is only interested in his cars and if I am being honest he lacks your level of duty and responsibility. You understand that Privilege comes at a price as you had paid it so that your brothers can have the privilege of choice."Queen answered. "Do you accept this new Annika and her responsibilities and be the future King of Raigarh."
"I have a feeling that they are a package and you know by now that there is nothing I would not do for her." Shivaay said, "How does she feel about this new situation of hers?
"She is reluctant and hesitant but you understand that one cannot run away from who they are. Sometimes your birth takes away your freedom. I was hoping you will talk to her about it." Queen answered honestly. Her daughter was not ready for her duties and she wanted nothing to do with them.
"I do, so yes I will do it so she does not have to do it alone," Shivaay sighed. Their life was going to be one roller coaster ride from now on.
"Here is the file about the details and whereabouts of my brother-in-law who is still a danger to Annika. You first duty as the only Royal male in this family is to find him and take care of him," Queen said handing him the file she has taken from her desk drawer. "Since you are the only male in our family and the eldest son-in-law from now on you will be doing all the rituals of Ragini's wedding, filling in for her father. Do you have any problems with that?"
"No at all your highness," Shivaay said simply.
"Very well then, I will tell the Raj Purohit ji to conduct your and Annika's coronation pooja tomorrow. Welcome to family Jamai Sa, I am glad that we have reached an understanding here. I think you should call me Maa Sa from now on." Saying so the Queen got up and left the study leaving a Shivaay sitting in his chair. He, after all had a lot of thinking to do about their future.
