Wow.
Innika, my love, I am sorry that your post has been hijacked by the keyboard warriors. It's quite easy to be mean and spread negativity when you are behind a screen and not accountable for your actions. But maybe I shouldn't be surprised after the recent activities that have been going on here. That is the main reason I have stopped coming here as often.
Coming to your post, the way you analyse the characters and observe all the nuances, let me just say if I didn't already know what you chose as a career, your posts would point me in the right direction. You are that good. I love reading everything you pen down.
I'll be honest, I haven't connected to Bhavya or Gauri. That maybe because I never followed DBO, so I wasn't around for their inception and have no idea about their conflicts or growths. The little I know about DBO was that it was trying to dip its toe into the Sci-fi pool with Svet as the main attraction. With the merger, I feel like I have opened the book to a random page and started reading from there with no idea about the character, plot or story.
As far as the sisters plot is concerned, I think Gul might have forgotten about it. You see, Gul has a habit of stretching one big secret for the entire series. There is one plot that is central to the show which she has advertised since the beginning and she'd milk once the TRPs drop. That arc is the Vanvaas track. How the rift between the brothers is created, how one of them might leave the mansion with his better half and how all of them will be dealing with its aftermath was supposed to be the main selling point of the show after they made us fall in love with the brothers. So I am expecting that this track will not come into play anytime soon. Now as far as Annika and her lost sister are concerned, I swear I feel that Gul is just playing with us at this time. She starts with the track, spoon feeds us information and then she leaves it at that. Do you remember how Annika was afraid of the dark? So much so that she had nightmares about Chutki? When the kidnappers came to kidnap Pari and cut off the power supply of the mansion, she didn't even flinch no? Or did I miss something in that scene? All of these amendments and adaptations just mess with the characters and the stories and honestly, for me, break the fourth wall.
Another reason I am not expecting much from the track is because of past evidence. Do you remember Mahi? The broken, adorable character that we all fell in love with and made posts about? No? He looked liked Shivaay with black eyes? Played a mouth organ? Is it coming back to you? Well, Gul has clearly forgotten him. It was proved that Mahi and Shivaay are twins. Annika knows it. Omkara knows it. Rudra knows it. And none of them did a thing. With the way their characters were written, don't you think they should have made atleast some effort? I mean, Annika is all subservient in regards to Pinky because she never had a mother. Because she understands the importance of family. Well, Mahi is family as well. Omkara was written as a man who values honour about everything. The first three-four months the writers really drove home the point that he would choose truth above his family. I loved, loved his character. A man who was a poet, an artist and has the honour of a J.K. Rowling hero? Gimme more of that. But then they went ahead and completely butchered the track with the accident track when he kept quiet to save Prinku. And then his turning into this Shivaay type clone for all intents and purposes, it just killed his essence. He wasn't Om anymore. But still, I'd like to think he had the last vestiges of his honour that he wouldn't just forget about another brother. And Rudra, the guy hero worships his elder brothers. They are his idols. How he doesn't care that there is one more of them out in the world, suffering on the streets, abused since he was a child is a question I have stopped asking myself.
The reason for this long, long rant was to justify my zero hopes regarding Annika and her sisters track. Also, Innika, didn't they show Bhavya's sister calling her Bhavya didi? So if the Cvs do decide to merge the lost sister story of the two Oberoi bahus (are there no other tracks?), how will the get out of this mess? Or they'll just conveniently forget they showed something like this and expect us to do the same.
Also, I was borderline appalled that you had to put that disclaimer at the start of your post. The characters you are talking about are fictional. They are meant for public consumption. You are allowed to critique (which wasn't even what you were doing in the first place) a character. That doesn't make your love for them any less. People are also allowed to not agree with you. They are entitled to their own opinions. But this, this blind hero-worship where they whip anyone one who even dares to say a word against their 'faves', these knights on white horses running off to a war not taking place in the name of monarchs not ruling any dynasty, fighting soldiers with no weapons, well...its just pretty sad. The internet is a cesspool of trolls and negativity. Wade through it and you do you, my love.
Loved reading your thoughts, as always.
Much love,
Richa.
