She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She wouldn't open her eyes and look because she knew she would bolt and run. She felt his arms around her neck, resting it on her shoulders, he lifted her hair slightly to get better access to the back of her neck. The most simplest of touch from his finger and she felt the goosebumps all over her, as if he commanded attention from every pore in her body. She hated that he affected her such. She took deep breaths as he fiddled with the delicate pieces behind her neck. Unfortunately, instead of calming her senses she filled her lungs with his scent. It was an overpowering scent, one that clouded her thinking. She shuddered and opened her eyes. She watched him look at her with his blue eyes. No, not blue she noticed in surprise. There was a slight hint of green in them or was it the lighting in the room. They seemed more like the ocean today than the bright sky she had equated them to on the day they first met. Yes, his eyes were like the deep ocean, seemingly bright and shallow but she could sense the depth behind those eyes today. The depth that promised to hide away everything and show only that which he wanted her to see. Expressionless clear blue eyes with a hint of green, as if teasing her to find out what lay beneath it all, if she dared.
She sighed as she let out the breath she was holding and watched him settle back down next to her on the mandap. She looked down at the weight around her neck that he had just placed and made it known to the world that she now belonged to him. She touched the mangalsutra and the diamonds on it glistened blurring her vision. She looked back at him, his face unreadable just like his eyes and she watched as he stood to complete the rituals. She stood along with him and along with all the vows of marriage, she made a promise to herself that for all the trouble he caused in making sure that this day happened, she would make sure that he'd live to regret it every single day for the rest of his life.
Let me know what you think.
