To me, he is much more than that and to say that he is just another Maan, ASR or Asad is a a very superficial outlook at him. I shall explain in a few points why:
1) He is self-aware. He expresses his elitism and knows that he has a fixation with naam paisa power. This one is the most obvious layers and Shivaay does not attempt to hide this. He is not pretentious, and actually expresses his views & principles unapologetically without any hesitation. To me this shows that he is quite self-aware. While to others, this might be his biggest limitation, to him this is his strength. And he has his own reasons for believing so. He thinks upbringing and family name have a big impact on a person's life and lifestyle and perhaps even their moral compass. His certain life experiences have perhaps made him form this judgment and preconceived notion about people belonging from a lower class.
2) He is not a MCP. This is a big distinguishing factor between Shivaay and his predecessors. He is not a traditionalist and to me he seems more appreciative of the challenges posed by the woman, i.e. Annika. Sure he gets irritated and annoyed by her constantly challenging him, but he does not shoot her down immediately just on the basis of difference in principles. He actually listens to what she has to say despite not conceding with her, yet. The biggest example of this was the scene where Annika gave him a lecture about the fact that him being born into Oberoi household was a pure genetic lottery. Notice how in that scene he quietly listened to her and did not rudely interrupt or interject. This shows that he is not so rigidly and firmly rooted in his beliefs and principles. Further, this demonstrates that he actually does not mind the challenges posed by her and though he does not admit, yet, he likes her spirited defiance of everything he holds dear. I think he actually likes the fact that she refuses to cower in front of his position and power and is not swayed by monetary considerations, though he does not admit. Further, he is a little scared of her too though he does not admit yet. 😆 He is already so gentle with her. Even with Tia, he has always behaved like a gentleman and gave her the respect she deserves. How many men of his stature would put up with the constant aura cleansing?
😉
3) He's fiercely loyal to his family, to his brothers especially. And he'd literally do anything for them, even against his own wishes. And definitely wouldn't do anything that would hurt them. I really like this aspect about Shivaay. Cause I feel like his predecessors were a bit insensitive to their own family members, what with the various mummy and daddy issues. I am really glad Shivaay does not have this problem. 😆 He really understands the importance of having a family and treats each and every family member with respect, no matter what difference he has with them. This is where I find Shivaay and Shakti's relatiosnship a bit interesting. Recall that Oberoi family episode where the elder Oberoi bros came into the kitchen and Shakti's dialogue re. Shivaay, he did not look too convinced.😆 Despite this, he does not outright reject his father. In yesterday's episode, he actually called Shakti dad for the first time.
4) He actually expresses his feelings! And when he laughs, he laughs openly and does not try to hide it. I find his bond here with his brothers really heartwarming. ❤️ I really don't think he was built any walls around heart or is averse to falling in love despite not really believing in the concept of romantic love because of seeing so many loveless relationships in his life. This is another major difference between him and his predecessors. He does not seem bitter and does not treat his relationships the same way as his parents, does not punish himself for their mistakes and aims to be better than them. To reiterate, I want to give an example of a scene at the start of the show. In one scene, though he did not admit he loves Tia or even felt he loves Tia, to me he looked hopeful that since they are so compatible with regards to everything; family, status etc, he will learn to fall in love with her in the future. Remember his dialogues with Omkara about this. This again shows his self-awareness and the fact that he has no issues expressing his feelings. To illustrate this, I give the example of the scene where Shivaay mistook Annika for Tia and so easily expressed that he does have feelings, but he just can't express them. This again shows that he is more self-aware than his predecessors and can express his feeling that he has feelings. 😆
5) He just seems more chilled out! With regards to everything. I find the biggest testament to this is the fact that he actually accepted dressing up as Omkara in the Rakshabandhan celebrations, even with the wig and all. 🤣 Sure he looked kinda agitated, esp with the wig, but still he didn't really seem to mind. This again demonstrates an earlier point, he will do anything to please his family. I recall that episode where Soumya was in the kitchen with Om and Rudra, and Soumya said she likes her men clothed and decent(something along those lines, I can't recall the exact dialogue). Then Shivaay said cheekily "Someone like me?" 😆 So he does not even mind bantering and actually knows how to have fun. 😉 I feel like he really enjoys his banters with Annika a lot, sometimes he can't even help out a slight smile or smirk. 😆 Here I recall that piya piya sequence with Rudra (Rudra was super-cute here btw ❤️). At the end of it all, how he mouthed Annika's dialogue and actually said ki 'Raita phail gaya' and openly smiled and even smirked slightly. 😳
^^ All these points to me illustrate that he's a layered character and is def not one-dimensional. Though his basic template is the same, Mr Darcy prototype, but the differences are there. They are subtle but they are there. 😛
Please contribute any further points if you want/can. And yes, differing POVs are welcome. But please put forth your POV in a constructive way. 😃
