IKRS Tuesday 1st March 2016 ep 177 My Take ~ white lies or scandal.
Who can profess that in their life they have never attempted a white lie? The purpose of which is not to harm ,but rather to avoid distress and embarrassment. With this thought at the back of my mind I watched tonight's episode. In fact it opens with two examples where the truth is well concealed and to the contrary.
Viplav carries through Dhani's idea of allowing Raja and Shalu to go out on their own, of course he has his own axe to grind..his bit on the side for himself dating Dhani! , whilst being the understanding big brother. Now Viplav would give the inch of enjoying each other's company but certainly not the whole yard! Hence he would be accompanying them. To put it politely he would take them out to a named hotel. Shalu ,bless her! asks innocently why were they going out? Viplav replies firstly with what engages Shalu the most, why to eat of course! and then as an understanding brother replies, so that Raja and her can spend some time getting to each other.. then comes the intrusion from Dashrant as grown ups do, where were they heading? Viplav speaks a white lie, to the local boy's hostel to meet Raja's friends! Viplav knows if he spoke the truth , tradition would be slapped on and his sister would lose out the time of getting to Raja.. so best to sneak out without adding or subtracting any more.
At the ashram.. Dhani sails down the stairs, bagged change of clothes in her hand..dares to sneak out of the ashram past every one.But not quite past the watchful eyes of her mother dulari! Suddenly Dhani, mrs. Viplav Tirpathi , realizes that for her mother, she will be the little girl and her mother would be her mai for whom Dhani would still be seen as the one accounted for! dulari demands to know where she was heading for? Dhani tells her little white fib.. to get some embellishment embroidery material.. after a bit of a stern tone, dulari allows her , but wants her to get some incense sticks for the house..this very nearly becomes the usual following the ashram rule of informing the rest of the ashram if one leaves the premises ,Dhani even though married, is seen to abide by rules of seeking permission from her mother! She will have to take the risk as her lord calls for her.. and Dhani's feet just follow to his beckoning!
At the venue, Shalu wastes no time yells for the waiter, and Viplav feels, it's a nice opportunity to make Raja aware of the fact that his sister is a proper foodie ,and as such ,he's to look after his sister! Raja obviously reckons Viplav will leave them alone , but Viplav pulls his leg.. he must be joking he won't leave his sister alone. Raja's face falls , and Viplav chuckles, he was kidding , he won't sit with them but will be around, as he himself plans to meet his someone! Raja asks, her? Viplav beams,yep ! and he ll even introduce him to her! Viplav settles his baby sister to eat and chat with Raja, but Shalu wants to know where he was off to? Viplav teases her, he's going to take a dive in the swimming pool and he turns and leaves her as if she was a little girl being left in the nursery!
Kanak, Dashrant arrive at the same hotel for an inaugural Ganpati puja!.. while Dashrant performs the arti.. Dhani emerges out of the toilets in the lobby , changed out of her white sari into a rose pink sari.. with her head covered, her bagged white sari in her hand.. Dhani slips past the puja being led by Dashrant.. with smalls steps she gingerly walks past the small group of worshippers.. dressed as Viplav's undeclared wife still complicated like a white lie, while her declared but assumed, accepted role of a widow, her white sari lies tucked away in her bag she still holds on too..bad luck! Kanak's phone rings and she answers it and she thinks she sees a certain witch! the bane of her life in the lobby ,but dismisses the idea.. it cant be, this figure wears a coloured sari .. Dhani fumbles her way to the restaurant..
Where Raja begins to initiate a simple conversation about her likes and dislikes..but Shalu with straw between her lip stares totally smitten at her future husband Raja! then feels the need to go to the loo! Raja tucks into his noodles. Dhani finds her way to the poolside eatery and slowly walks ahead and catches Raja's back from various angles while he devours his noodles.. she is about to move over to his side to catch a glimpse of his face! as the chair next to him is empty..viplav suddenly saves us the suspense as he pulls! his wife back and pins her against a pillar! Where does she think she is? having a stroll in her garden? Shalu's sitting there! Dhani looks at him wide eyed and argues miffed why did he call her then? what if Shalu sees her, he teases and is she going to tell him off for this then? besides Shalu is his sister, if she sees her so what?not to worry as he'll deal with her, he says with conviction.. but then Dhani recalls too, how Shalu too at one point turned against her.. Viplav continues , besides he'll introduce her to Raja without Shalu. But Dhani , declines the idea ,as she'd seen him at the mandir. But Viplav insists, that might be true ,but then Raja hasn't seen her has he?it'll be better if they both meet each other face to face! the scene creates dramatic irony ,through Viplav's words..as the audience knows a certain truth, that both Viplav , Dhani are completely unaware off! In fact Raja too doesn't know the truth about Viplav's lady!Dhani looks up him with alarmed looks, and he takes her by the hand and adds,come lets go meet him! but the truth remains under cover ,despite Viplav's exuberance! thanks to the timely appearance of Dashrant and Kanak! It's panic attack for Viplav and he goes into cruise control mode! First stop Raja and Shalu! telling them to scram from the place rightaway !then back to Dhani with instructions ,she goes one way and he goes the other! he'll catch her later.. a brisk tender caress on her cheek! and they split!!.. the double date ends up being a scene out of a slap stick comedy show! Dhani peeps from behind the pillar, fixes her pallu and leaves the vantage point ,but forgets her widow's white sari in the bag behind the pillow.. briskly she heads for the loo to change back to what she is known by ,but realizes in panic, her bag she forget !she retraces her steps! Retrieves her bag but.. also returns is Viplav s mother. Kanak spots Dhani ,in a coloured sari as opposed to her white one! and Kanak's mouth turns as foul as a cess pool! She abuses Dhani , cusses her by the looks of how she looks . it seems no sooner her son Viplav broke off with her she started to be on the lookout for her next victim! Has she any shame and dignity left? or has she given those up all to the winds! Dhani had heard enough and she turned around and walked away ,badly bruised by her mother in law. Dashrant too walks up and looks quizzically at Dhani dressed in a coloured sari
Meanwhile Viplav exerts responsibility and phones the ashram if Dhani had reached home safely Raj laxmi receives the phone call just as Dhani walks into the ashram dressed in a white sari.. Dhani talks to him. only gives him a vague clue.. she was scared so she returned to the ashram.dhani in any case wasn't going to tell him about her run in with his mother.. he would have a go at her! but while Dhani is still on the phone the tsunami named Kanak bangs on the ashram and barges in! Dhani tells Viplav in a hurry , she has to go..its frustrating that Viplav will know nothing about his mothers yet another savage attack on his wife! Kanak demands the presence of all the widows and then starts her attack by mocking dulari ,you daughter here changes her colour just like the chameleon does! Dulari stops her she dare not talk rubbish against her daughter and how dare she barge in here!kanak mocks dulari ,ask her where she was? looks like her darling daughter hoodwinked her too! she says she spotted her in a hotel ,dressed like a married women.. a widow who pretends outside she is a married woman , such a corrupt, characterless girl your daughter is! Dulari defends Dhani . That she knows her daughter well, and she is her pride! She would never parade outside as a married woman before taking the vows of marriage!dhani knew deep down that would Kanak speaks is the truth.. guilt gnaws her especially at her mother's undying faith in her..Kanak continues to mock her mother's upbringing which breaks Dhani inside..kanak as usual has an eye for greed of gold and she scoffs , this girls engagement broke with her son ,.but this madam! still goes around wearing the gold kangan that belong to her! cruelly she wrenches them off Dhani's wrists and dulari screams back at her, that her daughter doesn't need her gold and rudely returns the kangan on the other wrist too! dulari gives Kanak a mouthful and warns she dare not utter another word against her daughter as she knows where and what her daughter does, and they don't need their cheap gold kangans as they have enough self respect to live life by in the ashram, they may be poor! But they have more integrity then she has, and dulari points to the door and orders Kanak to leave!dulari gives Kanak as good as she gets and speaks on behalf of all the women of the ashram ! dulari gets this long time coming battle with Kanak, off her chest! But Dhani heart is weighed down terribly due to the gigantic secret she holds in her heart..
Viplav seems morose and preoccupied at his house, may be he's upset that he and Dhani too were meant to have a good time today at the hotel, but it didn't quite go according to plan.. Raja asks him and he replies regretfully , that he felt bad forhim and Shalu didn't get the time to talk to each other.. Raja smiles no need to feel sad about it, after marriage we have all the time in the world to chat with each other.. but Raja is very keen to know about Viplav love.. who is she? What does she do? where does she live? Viplav looks up and smiles dreamily.. what ever she does, she does very well !god has most certainly given her the looks ,but more than that he has given her a brilliant personality! It's rare to such have people around these days.. who put others first before themselves.. says Viplav with conviction. Raja is most impressed and asks him ,if that girl is so good , then why has he hidden her away from his family? Anyone would happily make her their daughter in law? Viplav pulls an amused but awkward face..yes, thinks Viplav..why can't his mother see Dhani, the girl he loves, and has married ,through his eyes.. sad but his mother never ,ever saw the love he has always had for Dhani.. here even a stranger ,one he hardly knows, can see the worth of a girl like Dhani ,even though he has never met her.. wonders Viplav..
Kanaks foul mouth;her militancy but above all Dhani's personal folly moves her to misery and floods of tears.. in the privacy of her room.. she recalls her mothers unflinching trust in her, her daughter is not characterless that without marriage she would never don the semblance of a married woman! Dhani cries, then turns and finds her mother in her face. dulari tells her she mustn't pay heed to what Kanak blabbers! she herself is shameless ,hasn't a clue about what she spews.. as her mother, she trusts her completely, whatever any one says as her mother she knows ,that she will never lie to her. that she'll never hide anything from her.. Dhani gives her mother a hug full of remorseful tears.. Dhani.. tells her mother she wants to say something and dulari warns her, don't want any justifications about what Kanak said.But Dhani admits that if she tells her she has lied to her, would she forgive her? dulari's face clouds with worry,as she replies. Is that how little she knows her mother? For nine months she carried her in her womb, give birth to her, she knows everything ,every habit of hers, and she doesn't know what her daughter is trying to say? She has faith in the way she has brought up her daughter,that she knows if her daughter does lie to her, there must be a good reason behind it! so ignore what Kanak says,in one ear and out the other.. besides there is no need to separate from baxchwa ji.. she has seen him closely. Such upheaval was created. But he never deserted her ! why because he loves her a lot..she too should never think of leaving him. because a man who gives so much love is extremely hard to find! so she needn't be frightened of anyone! As she is her daughter! Whatever any one says, she has full faith in her daughter..dulari empowers Dhani.. Dhani cries.. what a crisis god has put her in , there's Viplav on one side if she tells him about his mother, he will enter into a conflict with her..on the other hand there's her mother, who trusts her entirely and then there's her, who is betraying her mother's trust..
There is no doubt in my mind that Dulari and dhani's final scene ,for me was the highlight.. Alongside, viplav's conversation with raja when he describes dhani was heartfelt and sincere. Like wise dulari says some words for viplav , where she says men like him are rare to find these days. Other than that the episode gave impression, that loads will happen when dhani sees Raja and he sees her ,but naught happened..hamlet53 3.2. 16
