IPL 2023: 2 BIG DECISIONS coming in IPL in next 15 days, SRH Captain & Rishabh Pant replacement to be decided.

All the eyes might be on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy but IPL franchises are preparing for the next season. While some of the teams have already begun training, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals have to sort out their captaincy problems first. Rishabh Pant is ruled out of IPL 2023 and DC need a new captain and more importantly a wicketkeeper. SRH have limited captaincy options and depending on Aiden Markram’s success in SA20, they will take a call on the next SRH captain in the next 15 days.

Rishabh Pant Replacement: More than IPL, Pant is a big miss in Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. The youngster has commanded respect with his skills in Australia, India, SouthAfrica and England. But Delhi Capitals have to pick their captain, as well as a wicketkeeper. Pant suffered a horrific car crash and is out for close to 9 months.

However, DC have shot themselves in the foot by releasing KS Bharat. As a result, DC are without any Indian wicketkeeper in their roster. The only keeper they have is Phil Salt. However, he is not a regular keeper either.

Who will be DC captain? – David Warner is the primed candidate to be stand-in captain in IPL 2023. Manish Pandey is also an option. But considering Warner’s stature in the team, he is set to be the next captain. DC Director Sourav Ganguly and head coach Ricky Ponting will confirm the next captain in a couple of weeks.

SRH Captaincy: Sunrisers Hyderabad have two options for captaincy — Mayank Agarwal and Aiden Markram. Mayank had an unsuccessful stint as Punjab Kings captain got the boot. Markram on the other hand is successfully leading SRH’s SA20 franchise. With SA20 final slated for Saturday, his performance as the captain will be evaluated. Sunrisers Eastern Cape are still in the race to make the semifinals.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar is the other captaincy option for SRH. He has led in David Warner or Kane Williamson’s absence. But considering he has struggled with injuries too, his spot isn’t guaranteed either. Hence, Markram is the frontrunner to take the SRH captaincy. A final announcement is likely after the SA20 final on Saturday.
