Yes, creative liberty indeed.

Also, our so called text books all say Valmiki 'wrote' Ramayan and not that he composed Ramayan. Western influence makes it a story book of sorts.

Also, to people who cannot understand or accept how great our forefathers were, they cannot wrap their heads around the fact that Valmiki composed 60,000 verses without writing them down. In Tretha Yuga, there were no letters or written messages. Everyone commits information to memory. Be it Vedas or messages being sent from one place to another, everything was through word of mouth.

also the stories of ramayan was also in mahabharat

which makes it larger epic

it means ganesh didn't write mahabharat

As per legends, Ganesh wrote Mahabharat as Vyasa composed it. Basically it was like a dictation process.

It's an interesting story of how that came to be.

Both Ramayana and Mahabharata were great epics. The only difference is the age it happened. Since Mahabharata happened later, it certainly would have more stories and include the Ramayana as well.

By Dwapar Yuga, I think the practice of writing letters came into vogue. If I remember correctly, Rukmini wrote to Krishna to come and rescue her from her wedding and there are stories of how Uddhhava tried to help Krishna by making him write to the Gopis of Vrindhavan. When Vyasa wanted to record the massive epic Mahabharata, he wanted to have a written script. The practice those days was that the Guru composed and his desciples write it down. When Vyasa composed, he composed fast with rich language, none of his desciples were able to write as fast as he composed and write down correctly. So he prayed to Lord Ganesha seeking his help. Ganesha agreed and said he will write for him but he should not be made to wait. If he is made to wait, he will stop writing and leave. Sage Vyasa agreed with the conditions that Ganesha should only write down what he understood. Thus began the writing of the epic. Ganesha was able to write fast and correctly, and he understood everything Vyasa composed. Now it was Vyasa who was in trouble. He had no time to pause and think. So, he created verses that can be understood only when read twice or multiple times. Thus Ganesha had to pause to understand and then write down and this gave Vyasa time to think and composed the next verses. Thus, the Mahabharata was written.

Messengers received the message from, remember the instructions and deliver the message. Not only do they have to relay the message correctly, they also have to speak well with proper etiquette. Messages were sent not just by dedicated messengers, they were also sent by ministers, nobles, sages, warriors and merchants. Depending on task, they have to perform.

For example, a king might say greet my friend, the king of ... Country, praise his valour, enquire his welfare and convey the message ....

The chosen messenger has to know how to greet the king, know his deeds so he can praise him, know the family of the king's so he can enquire and then convey the message in an apt fashion. It wasn't an easy task.
