PHYSICAL TRAITS OF LORD VISHNU

Vishnu's charm and beauty - his lotus shaped eyes, winsome smile, thick long hair, broad shoulders, lithe limbs and dark complexion - rouses love in devotees and passion in poets. They reflect rasa - life's mystery, beauty and awe.

Vishnu is blue as the sky, and like the sky always watches over the earth. He is dark as the rain-clouds whose presence brings joy after the hot dry days of summer. Like the colour black, Vishnu is omnipresent, seen even in the dark.

His four arms represent the four directions of the cosmos that he supports at all times.

On his chest is a characteristic tuft of hair called Shreevatsa - the symbol of MahaLakshmi, his consort, who is the goddess of life, protected and loved by him.

Brahma, the creator, sits on a lotus that springs from Vishnu's navel. This is the primal lotus that bloomed when life began.

Vishnu is known across the three worlds for his smile that is at once seductive and mysterious. The smile radiates happiness and celebrates the delights of worldly life. It also mocks man who, obsessed with his ego, has lost sight of the divine. And for all the troubled souls of the cosmos, the smile of the lord offers reassurance and love.

Balarama is one of my favourite characters and He definitely wasn't shallow. Nor was Revati a vamp, so that story is definitely out for me. No way would Balarama be pro-Kauravas, because He knew the adharma and was just being neutral as He was both Bhim and Dury's guru.

On the physical characteristics of Lord Vishnu. I can only think of one thing- that He is the perfect man.

So many people misunderstand Balaram's neutral stance.

Lakshman is easier to understand. He was staunchly against Ravan's side and never wavered.

Balarama was a Guru to both Duryodhan and Bhima, and as a true Guru he appreciated both their strengths and weaknesses, and thus he did not take sides in the war, because he did not want to oppose either of his sishyas.

There is nothing wrong in what he did. Balarama was against adharma too. He never supported the Kauravas' cause. He just did not want to fight with Duryodhana and thus remained neutral.

People take this as favoritism towards Duryodhana, and think Balaram disliked the Pandavas and only supported them for Krishna, but that's wrong. The Pandavas were dear to him too.

And that is seen when He teaches Bhima the art of mace fight.
Dau is a true Guru. People simply see everything as either black or white. Never the neutral side.

And in reality things are never black and white. Dau always was fair, yet people vilify Him for His temper and misinterpreting His neutral stance as support towards the Kauravas. He merely sought not to take sides, and people can't handle that. They need everything dished out into two sides.
