Not only that, he was utterly resentful of the fact that Pandu was crowned, initially, and his underlying knowledge that being the eldest, Yudi had the right to the throne, more than Dury.

I can come up with several options of what he could have done, but the sad thing is he wouldn't have done it.

Let's discuss this quote:
If you don't fight for what you want, don't cry for what you lost.

That is basically the essence of life. If you want something, and you have a right to it, then you have to fight for it. And without that, you cannot give up and then lament.

You also don't have a right to either

Exactly. But you can't also fight for what you don't have a right to, either.

Exactly.
Ravan is an example. he had no right to Sita. Yet, lusting for her, he kidnapped her. And see his fate. When you fight for something that is not yours to begin with, you will be destroyed.

That's technically Duryodhan as well. He didn't have the right to the throne.
My father once said: Dhritarashtra is a proxy, Duryodhan cannot succeed him. I agree with that. Originally the throne was Pandu's, and Dhritarashtra was there ONLY till Pandu's eldest son was able to take the throne. Failing this, Duryodhan would have got the throne. And, considering that Yudi was there, Duryodhan didn't have that right.

About Sita, yes. Ravan had no right to her. He ultimately faced destruction. Similarly, it was also that with Shurpi. She lusted after Rama and Lakshmana and that's why she faced what she did. TO try and usurp what was never his.

That is why to kidnap a woman is the worst sin

Exactly. Against her wishes, to touch her, is the worst sort of sin.
No woman should ever have to go through that *shudders*

And yet, Bhudevi did, twice. And Panchali almost got kidnapped. Kayadu did, by Indra.

Yes, and that ultimately led to their destruction. Well, Indra learned his lesson too.
