128 episodes seems rather short for this serial. I wonder where they'll end it. Even if they reduce the Geeta to 1 episode, it still seems not enough.

No, they've not decided that. But I was thinking - how does one reduce the Mahabharata to 128 episodes? There are a lot of things that happened, which would have to be skipped in order to keep it that low.

As a reference, BRC's Mahabharata was 93 episodes, w/ some 4-6 dedicated to the Geeta. But they missed plenty of events - during the Pandava exile, a really condensed war that was boring to watch - the same scenes of only Arjun fighting, and hardly anyone else, except when they were getting killed, a lot of events during the exile, and so on.

Now, if they decide to skip Krishna's birth & childhood, that could buy them episodes to spend more time on the activities of the Pandavas. Like after the building of Indraprastha, Arjun's exile, his time w/ Uloopi, Chitrangada & Subhadra, and so on. Or show more Pandava conquests during the Rajasuya yagna, or more detail on the daily battles in the Kurukshetra war.

Oh, and one thing I seriously hope they do - give us as little of the Kunti-Gandhari-Vidura-Bheeshma-Shakuni dialogs as possible. It's that stuff that used to make BRC excruciatingly unwatchable for me. Show things during the exile like Ghatotkacha taking the Pandavas around, Bhima's/Yudhisthir's encounter w/ Nahush, the real confrontation w/ the Gandharvas, Bhima killing rakshashas like Kirmira and so on. In fact, make Kunti, Gandhari, Vidura cameo appearances.

I agree with you. Another thing i would like them to do,or not to do- Don't insert 21st century ideology in the Dwapara Yuga.

Stuff like Kunti / Vidura clamouring for women's rights (because there were none) or decrying dice / gambling games (it was an accepted pastime) or Bhishma / Yudhishthira denouncing the division of Hastinapura, etc etc

Stick to the code of conduct as practised in Dwapara Yuga, however unpleasant it may be to our 21st century eyes / ears.

Oh, absolutely!!! Although in the original Mahabharata, when Krishna meets the Pandavas the first time during their exile, he tells Draupadi of how he'd have stopped that game or discouraged the gambling, blah blah blah.

The division of Hastinapur criticism by everybody was stupid. After all, Yayati - their ancestor - himself divided his kingdom into 5, and I believe Pururavas too did something along those lines. It was perfectly legit to give different sons different kingdoms. Rama, even though he was a yuga ago from then and a different dynasty/parampara, not only made sure that his nephews had kingdoms of their own - even the younger brothers in each case - Luv, Chandraketu, Pushkal and Shatrughatee - had their own kingdoms.

Oh, and stop showing Gandhari as a saint, being constantly opposed to Duryodhan. In fact, she turned a blind eye to everything he did, including the vastraharan, and although she refused to bless him w/ victory, she was pretty much w/ him. In fact, in Stri Parva, both Bhima & Krishna point that out to her, when she confronts them after lamenting her sons.

the Mahabharat is sqeezed into one teenie tiny 3 hour movie too
they can cover it all
maybe they will not show Krishnas Birth etc-or maybe they will finish it up quick
lets see how they go around-the show seems well planned,so i hope it all goes well

Thanks for sharing the promos, Devraniji 🤗

Aesthetically speaking, the promos look fantastic. The throwing of the dice at the end of the Shakuni promo, the whole small fish/big fish symbolism in the Satyavati promo, and especially the little shot of Arjun receiving divyastras from Shivji in the Arjun promo were
gorgeous. Even the costumes and jewelry look good so far. If they maintain that quality of visuals instead of showing shiny trailers like DKDM and then not really delivering/squeezing all the effects into like 30 seconds of airtime, that alone will be a reason to watch.

In terms of casting, Satyavati seems like a perfect fit. Thought she was Drashti for a sec until she opened her mouth. But yeah, she looks the part and her pronunciation and overall dialogue delivery seem great; even Shakuni sounds good though they'll be better off taming his appearance so that he doesn't turn into a caricature. Gandhari looks too young and glamorous, so idk that the makeup department is going to be able to age her convincingly as her children grow up; I fear she'll be yet another new mytho mom who eventually ends up looking younger than her kids. Arjun sounds kind of hammy in his promo, so of everyone we've seen so far I'm least confident in him, which ain't good because we'll be seeing more of him than the others. Hopefully the show proves me wrong.

I changed the title of the thread since we've been discussing far more than that first article. 😆 This thread can remain a place of discussion about the show until and even after its forum is open.
