I didn't know that story - I'm just going by what they showed in one of the initial episodes in this serial. I just caught a bit of it there, but not the full story. Did you follow it from the beginning? I wish there was a place where we could watch the first several episodes of Shani b4 it became an episodic serial. In fact, for Shani, all i know about him is what I've seen on MSDK

Well Vrish, I have followed the serial from its start. The first chapter completely dealt with the story of King Vikramaditya which lasted for maybe 4 or 5 months. I loved one particular song so much which was titled as Maharaja Vikramaditya ki suno kahani, I tried to find it but never found it anywhere on the net😭 Later on, another song with the similar music which was used in ASR during the war between Lakshman & Meghnath😊

The second chapter dealt with the entire life history of Shani. I watched the second chapter too from the start till the part where Shani doesn't get along well with Manu, Yam & Yamuna, after that due to power cuts I missed out all the episodes of the second chapter. I watched some videos on youtube of Shani running away from home, troubling Narad, troubling the Saptarishis, being dragged by Hanuman all the way back home, Shani already getting along with his step bros & sis, Manu creating a lion, that's it Imagine never uploaded the episodes😡 & those people who uploaded it, didn't upload the entire episodes, so I got to watch only these parts😭 Well Shani was even cursed by the Saptarishis for troubling them but I couldn't find the video to see what curse he received from them, all I know is that due to their curse's effect, he lost his power & fainted. I never got to watch the episodes of his life when he grew up So I never knew he had a wife & got cursed by her too😕

The third chapter started as Shani Singhnapur ki Kathayein which showed how Shani appeared in a man's dream that he would reside in Singhnapur & showed the story behind why people in that place don't have doors or locks in their homes due to the belief that no robbery can happen in that place as Shani protects that place.

Then I guess the serial finally converted into an episodic serial but I missed out some episodes again. Sadly Imagine doesn't mind showing repeats of Rakhi & Rahul's swayamvar but would never ever show MSDK's episodes of 2008/09 plus they don't even upload the videos on youtube but will never miss out uploading a single episode of the Swayamvars or ZKJ or any other weird reality show😡

Btw sometimes I feel it's good to have a blank mind while watching a mytho or histo. At least one doesn't get to know about the creative license being used. As I don't know much on Shani, I won't know that the Sagars are showing their own version. But in a Ramayan & Shri Krishna serial as we get to learn a lot through text books & so many sources, it's frustrating at times to see the serial's story being deviated by inserting a lot of fiction at times. Sometimes I really find it difficult to watch the Sagar's own created version of DBSK & CGM too

I recall seeing parts of a Shani episode during the time the Kishkindha kand in the Ramayan was running (Sugriv getting Rama's help in killing Vali), in which Shani battled Shiva and was about to get killed, when Surya dev & Chaya intervened on his behalf. Also, I recall when Shani was cursed by his own wife that anybody who looked @ him would fall upon hard times.
Did you happen to catch those?

September 10th was the story of Godavari, where Shani explains that in his set-up of justice, nobody, not even his superiors, are immune from it. This episode was one about a wrong doing by his own father Surya 😲 and how he was punished 😆
There was a devoted woman named Godavari, who every morning would do her Surya-namaskar b4 the day's events. One day, Surya, seeing her, decided that he wanted to possess her 🤢 So he went to the banks where she was meditating, and had a connection w/ her. At the end of it, he leaves, and Godavari wakes up lying on the ground, shocked 😲
Godavari goes to her husband and tells him what Surya did. Her husband is disgusted, but blames her for being no longer chaste. They take it to a committee of rishis, who also judge Godavari as guilty 😡 Godavari is then treated as an outcaste by the entire community - stoned @ random, prevented from drinking water or taking refuge in temples 😡. Finally, after running from pillar to post, she goes to a forest.
There, she builds her own funeral pyre 😲 and is extremely angry that she has been driven to the situation that she has to light her own pyre. However, Shani starts a rainstorm which puts it out. Godavari then asks whether she's so defiled that she can't even be allowed into Yamalok? Shani arrives and tells her that she's as pure as the Ganga, and that everybody who wronged her would be brought to justice. Godavari is just livid and demands to know from Shani whether she can get her chastity back, or whether he is going to reverse time to the point that she was still chaste? Shani assures her that if needed, he'll do that as well, but that she will be vindicated. He advises her to go to Rishi Gautama and get advice from him.
Shani then intercepts Surya deva, who is travelling in his time chariot that enables him to go from day to night. He confronts Surya on his behavior w/ Godavari, and tells him that he's violated the sancity of a deity-devotee relationship. Surya tells him this was his personal business, but Shani points out that it's not his personal business if Godavari didn't acquiesce. He gives him an ultimatum of 24 hours to fix things, and if he doesn't, Shani will punish him. Surya mocks him, saying that all life will come to a standstill if he's out of the picture.
In the meantime, Godavari arrives @ the ashram of Rishi Gautama, who understands her predicament, since he was the one who cursed Ahalya (this incident was b4 Rama touched Ahalya and liberated her, and so was probably in the Satya Yuga or Treta Yuga). Gautama tells her that he regretted cursing Ahalya for a crime for which she wasn't guilty every day of his life. Godavari asks her what she should do, and he tells her that she should meditate on Shiva.
In the meantime, Surya leaves, and the devas are worried about life on earth coming to a standstill. Varuna assures Indra that it wont, and that Shani will figure out how to punish Surya deva alone. Suddenly, Shani hurls a fireball @ Surya which takes him out of his chariot and captive, but the chariot still continues on its normal route, and so life on earth is unaffected.
Shani then tells Shiva to go and answer Godavari's tapasya. Shiva appears b4 her and tells her to build a linga @ the spot and meditate, and that she'd become a river. Godavari builds a linga, which looks like a crystalline glass linga 😆 and then sits, and is turned into an ice statue. After a while, she melts, and a new river that flows down from that point is started.

Shani in the meantime has taken Surya prisoner, and hurls another fireball @ him that destroys his divine appearance (like w/ Kama in case of Narmada a few weeks ago). Surya has boils all over his body, and when he appears b4 the devas, Brahma, Vishnu, et al, all decline to help him. Finally he goes back to Shani and apologizes, but Shani tells him that he is guilty b4 Godavari, not Shani, and tells him to take a dip in the Godavari.

Surya accordingly goes and takes a dip in the Godavari river, and apologizes. Godavari emerges as a Godess, this time telling Shani that by repenting, he's taken the first step towards salvation. Surya then bows to her and then leaves. Godavari is happy @ being vindicated.

I found the above episode somewhat unsatisfactory. At the end of it, Godavari wasn't allowed to cremate herself, but she became a river - nobody apologized to her in her human form, in which she was wronged. Also, while Surya deva was the prime culprit and duly punished, others, like her husband and that Brahman committee, were also guilty of not giving her a proper hearing, and they didn't show them at all. Essentially, that community went scott free, and worse, probably got a good supply of clean water for all their sins 😡
One thing though - this story did illustrate something Vik said a while back - that Shani doesn't hesitate to go after his elders 😆 Wonder whether he went after Indra for violating Ahalya. Incidentally, I had never heard of Surya ever doing such an act: Indra, yes, but Surya, never.

Thanks a lot for the update! I missed the epi, must have been fun to watch Shani punish his father though 😈 Anyway I agree here, it would have been good if the people who considered her impure would actually apologize to her rather than only having Suryadev apologizing to her

I guess Indra has been punished several times😉 I wonder is Lord Vishnu the only one who never was a victim (as I've never heard of anything like that😕 however Garuda was punished) coz even Shiva was a victim of Shani's punishment once😲 I wish I had not missed that episode of Shiva receiving some doze from Shani😆

Some stories in our scriptures are unsatisfactory

Is this story really exist somewhere?

To answer your question, only time I can think of Vishnu being defeated for being on the side of wrong was Sati & Shiva. He was amongst Daksha's guests, and so when Virbhadra & Mahakali, on instructions of Shiva, attacked the yagna, Vishnu was the last line of defense for Daksha, but was trounced by Virbhadra. Following that, Virbhadra had no problems capturing & beheading Daksha.

Other than that, there were just the curses Vishnu took from rishis Narada & Bhrigu.

Nandini

I think most of these Shani stories are created by the Sagars - a whole bunch of them involved completely fictitious characters. In some, like the story of Raja Ambrisha being cursed by Durvasa, they inserted Sagars in the story.

I don't think anyone doubts that they are largely fiction, since Shani was uninvolved in most of the events in the scriptures.

I think the story of Sandhya and chaya was right to some extent

but by the accounts of Godawari's story written on the last page , I feel a bit dissatisfied.

Sun God is not a demon to leave a woman unconscious, thats a harsh portrayal

River Godawari is considered a very pious river in Maharashtra. It is considered as sacred as Ganga

It is called Ganga also in the local language
