I've learned Carnatic classical for 6 years when in school, then picked it up again for a year and then gave up again 😛😳! But I have had a deep, life-long ear and appreciation for Indian Classical music (especially Carnatic) that was fed and nurtured by my father, and I like to think it's still strong! 😊. Which is why, my semi-trained aficionado ears are quick to pick up aberrations and usually give up watching reality music shows after a few weeks in exasperation😆. Even so, I'd say this year's Indian Idol contestants are amongst the strongest I've ever seen.👏⭐️

wow!! 6 years is a very long time.
I wish I could've learnt longer, but I only had a few years in India and I tried learning too many things - music, Bharatnatyam (I completed my arangetram). This other than school, tennis and painting.
Unfortunately by the time I started learning music, my family was getting ready to leave the country again!

But I've tried my best to stay in touch with music, I never stopped practicing, and tried to self teach (my guru was kind enough to record classes for me), but of course that doesn't help very much.

Unfortunately having an ear for music means most contestants often sound blah to me.
But like you said this times Indian idol is definitely the best so far.

I'm glad my ears still understand music, most singers I've supported (and haven't won reality shows) have turned out to make a name for themselves - Arijit Singh (loved him in Fame Gurukul), Hemachandra (I think it was sa re ga ma pa challenge). I hope this time Revanth makes it big in Bollywood (he's already doing quite well in tollywood).

I just hope the jinx of who I support not win breaks this time

Nice post.

I've learnt Carnatic music too for 5+ years when I was in school. Resumed learning when I moved to the U.S., then quit when I got busy with school and work. Now enjoy listening to my kids who also learn music. :) Maybe someday I will get a chance to learn again!
I love musical shows. Sa Re Ga Ma Pa (in the days when Sonu hosted it) will always stay my favorite!

thats awesome Lizzie...

I didnt learn any, but had experience singing in concerts, taught by some experts, but they will just teach the nuances of the songs which I've chosen/given to sing. Thats why I look high on classical singers, coz it's not something you can learn in a day or two and execute, where as other genres are relatively easier to learn and immitate.

But I quit all that now, only singing choir back up in church.
