India-Nepal Relations

Popular and cultural ties with Nepal have consistently been close and have reflected the historical, geographical, cultural and linguistic links between the two nations. This also manifests in State to State relations which have grown stronger over the years, reinforced by regular exchange of visits at high levels, notwithstanding the political changes in both the countries in the past few years.

The signing of the India-Nepal Treaty of Peace and Friendship in 1950 established the framework for the unique ties between the two countries. Since the early fifties, India has contributed significantly to Nepal's economic development. Beginning with major irrigation projects such as the Kosi and Gandak barrages, Indian assistance has significantly contributed to the development of the economic infrastructure in Nepal.

Indian assistance to Nepal has increased over the years. Since 1997 annual GOI disbursement has been around Rs.70 crores. Major Indian projects have been completed (BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) – Rs.88 crores), or are due to be completed, (22 Bridges on the East-West highway – Rs.55 crores). [This does not include GOI subsidy for the supply of commodities like sugar, rice, cement, fertilisers, petrochemicals, etc.; refund of excise duty levied on items exported from India; Rs. 50 crores stand-by credit facility, etc. ] A High Level Task Force, (at the level of Principal Secretary to PM and Chief Secretary to the Government of Nepal) oversees progress in Indian-assisted Projects to Nepal.

I would suggest everyone to read that link to understand the deep relationship that both countries share.

Ok agreed India has the bestest of best relation with Nepal but why should Indian Idol be a brand ambassador of tourism in Nepal??? Why should Nepal benefit from Indian Idol before the people of India do??? Dosent Prashant owe first to Indians than Nepalis????

OK dont be technical with me you know what i mean.

Anyways its 4 in the morning here so i need to sleep. We can argue all our lifes and not come to an agreement but I still stand by my POV.

Prashant is an Indian by nationality, destination and employment. Prashant is an employee of Indian police fraternity. Prashant is,was and always be an Indian.

Prashant won Indian idol only because of people of India, Indian police fraternity and sony India. Prashant owes only to these people. So prashant should always work for the betterment of Indian government, Indian police and people of India. So he shouldnt accept this tittle as grand ambassador of tourism for Nepal because he is Bharat Ki Shaan not Nepal ki Shaan or if he decides to accept that tittle then he should step down as Indian Idol.

Again...if the great Sunil Gavaskar can accept it why can't Prashant. And btw, usually govts in India don't confer such titles to winners from musical shows (has anyone from such shows received any title from any govt)?

Oh and both his dad and him worked for the police force in India. When his dad died he was given his dads job by Government of India, not Nepal because he was the only earning member in the family. So he owes big time to people and govt of India.
