It happened in the season 2….it seems to be happening again in the season 3…what makes a music reality show like II lose its steam somewhere in the middle rather than peak towards the climax?
Here are some possible reasons:
Expectations too high from untrained singers?
Many of the singers in the II are untrained amateurs. What we see of them during the auditions are edited clips of brief performances. These singers may actually sound the best during their auditions when they sing a couple of lines of songs that they may have rehearsed for ages. That is why some singers begin to sound bad during the Mumbai rounds itself
Familiarity breeds contempt?
Listening to the same singers over and over again makes you notice their flaws more.
Unimaginative Judgment...
The same comments, the same scripted disagreements…the judges particularly in the gala rounds begin to sound like broken records…e.g. JA praising Ankita all the while, Udit not making any committed judgments, Anu blowing his own trumpet about being a composer etc etc
Unimaginative themes
We have such a vast repertoire of Hindi film songs…for every season, every mood… Somehow the repetition of the same themes patriotism, romance etc reflects the lack of creative thinking on part of the producer…they did try something different with a back to back fast and slow number this season but somehow it didn't work for me…
And last but definitely not the least…
Public voting the greatest dampener…
When the voting results in exit of deserving candidates you begin to lose interest. A 50% judge's weightage is the need of the hour for all music reality shows… Only that can lead to a finale where the best singers compete for the title..and only then can a musical show like this peak in terms of viewers' interest towards the climax
