i think fame gurukul was not a 50-50
there also janta's voting only worked.

from bottom 3 janta will choose their fav. and contestants themselves chose another - some times contestant will vote out a good singer because of competition eg: amit in fG and some times because of internal disputes- Arigit

one of my suggestion is judges will give comments on gala and they will chose bottom 3-4 on the elimination day only, from that those who got lowest vote will be out. how it is???

II is not about music, its about character depiction, controversies, performances and keeping the stage alive. Such shows thrive when more contestants are there and as they get eliminated, lot of tearshed\bloodshed happens and fans stop watching the show, and the show tends to lose charm because of lack of stories (Was music ever a focus??)

On the other hand the shows which are music based like saregama tends to get better as it approaches the peak. Even when contestants are eliminated you still watch the show and enjoy being a critic of the music irrespective of who is singing what, who is winning what.

On a light note, girls are usually the charm of the show, usually therern't any girl in top3, show loses its grace, with just muscles remaining.

This is just my take.

i agree with all your points except the one on the public voting....i think so far the public has done a better job than the judges....at least we have Emon & Amit in top 3...if left to the judges we would have had a final between Suhit & Ankita....

the show would have been more watchable if judges gave some really good criticism based on technical points....

this year there are no celebrity judges in many galas.....they should have at least brought in some music directors as guest judges....

Mini has become so dominating that i hardly feel Hussain's presence.....and she i sounding quite repetitive...

I quite agree with that...Mini has been overbearing at times...she seems to be taking liberties with the judges😛...also much too emotionally attached to some contestants and crying like a baby when they were voted out...

Also too much of her coz she runs the Thursday Rubaru alone and then seems to have more lines than Hussain all the time!!!!

Out of final 13 my top 3 were always Deepali, Amit, Emon. I am glad at least 2 of them made it.

I really think the 50-50 voting system like Fame Gurukul would be beneficial. What happens a lot in Indian Idol is that the best performer for that week gets voted out, for example in Deepali's case. If a panel of judges selects who should be in the bottom 3 and lets the Audience decide, you still have the risk of saving the worst singer BUT you have eliminated the risk of losing the best by keeping them safe. The person who gets voted out may not be the weakest but was at least one of the weakest who should have gone. It is really difficult to get the perfect voting system, even the biggest and longest running song contest ESC has not been able to get the perfect voting system and steer free of controversy.

As for untrained singers, I am actually all for them. They add a raw edge of excitement to the show. There are many people out there with a good voice and understanding of music who never had the time or money to get formal musical training but truly enjoy it. I have noticed that trained singers tend to focus so much on singing that they tend to forget to add some excitement in performance while untrained singers appear more attune with popular demands. Sometimes trained singers sing because they are trained, while some untrained singers sing out of passion. There definitely needs to be a mix of trained and untrained.

I agree that the themes need to be kicked up a bit. They tend to go for the cliche themes. Most songs tend to be poppish flat Bollywood songs. I think it is done so as the public is not informed and knowledgeable about all the musical genres. I think it would be fun if we could challenge the voices to see how they sound in various genres like Electropop, Rap, Blues, Opera, Gospel, Folk, Gothic, J-Pop etc and see how versatile they really are. Maybe we will have global Idol someday. But I think they need to really pick strict genres in Indian Idol like folk, classical, qawwali etc to truly challenge the singers to show versatility.

And just for laughs sake...

If we ever had Global Idol what I would like to see people perform - just for fun... 😆 😆

Imagine them performing these numbers. Emon & Puja

Paleen & Abhishek

Prashant

Chang & Amit (with dancing)

Ankita & Deepali

Smita

Charu, Jolly, Richa

i agree except for the 50% judge thing, the judges seem incredibly biased and hypocritical and are no more reliable than the janta
