"I'll soon make it big in the film industry"
Puja Chatterjee

One of the very damdaar (promising) Indian Idol contestant Puja Chatterjee was eliminated from the show last Saturday.

"It was a bit unexpected and shocking but then I thought if Deepali can be eliminated then even I can be. I failed to please the audience for votes. However, I have promised myself to make it big in the Indian film industry," says Chatterjee.

Puja had tears in her eyes as she sang Hawa hawai for the last time on the Indian Idol stage. Even the judges were shocked as she performed extremely well in the last two rounds. Alisha said that it was sad that the most damdaar singer has been voted out.

So, what's next? "I and Deepali are planning to come back and pursue further studies in Mumbai. Besides studying, we're also planning to do PHD in music. I think you need to have a good knowledge of music before carving a niche as a versatile singer," adds Puja.

So, now will Ankita who's Puja's arch rival in the show garner more votes? Afterall, with the buzz going that this time's Indian Idol will most likely be a girl.
"All good singers have got eliminated. I feel this time too it's going to be a guy, either Emon or Amit. If Ankita wins, then she won't be as popular as Abhijeet Sawant. She needs to brush up her singing skills."

It seems that Puja doesn't share a good rapport with Ankita. What if she was given a chance to choose the Idol?

"It would have been Deepali and not Ankita for sure," signs off Puja.

still now i have never make any comments on nature of any contsn. i dont like it. but from her interview i think she is bit proud of her talent. i agree she is a very good singer & obviously dissapointed on being voted out.

ankita is not trained ,not technically always right ,needs to brushed her singing i agree. but she is also talented. 1 must respects others talent.

i think deepali, puja r voted out bcoz they have only singing.i personally feel indian idol is not about only singing also abt X facyor. it may b in form of looks, presonality, performance. i think ankita, chang, amit only have the balance B/w 2. parleen also had.it takes guts to perform & sing in tune at the same time.ankita has that. those who critisize her don't have that. evey1 cant b versatile. shreya ghoshal, sunidhi r not versatile. yet they r famous . b coz they have their own style. if some1 has the will & determination he/she will bcome succesful. 4 that some1 doesnt have to b superbly talented or versatile

in india if some1 bcomes play back singer he/ she is considered as a singer. a stage performer or a popsinger does not get that respect, which is not in the case in west. i think music should b music.

i will b very hapy if ankita bcomes the next indian shakira or britney. it is better to connect with live audience than sing in the closed doors of the studio

This is such an honest and straightforward interview. This is exactly what so many people feel - Amit and Emon in the top 2. So she and Deepali are still in touch. It's nice to see friendhsips continue.
I think the PhD will help both girls improve their techincal flaws and I'm sure they will be great playback singers.

Exactly thats why they got eliminated... they pay more attention on technicalities rather than bhaav/emotion of the song. Deepali and pooja both sang in sur but arely appealing.

I can count Sunidhi Chauhan, lata ji, Asha ji and many many more great singers none of them is PHD in music and u dont need to be either...

Popularity is something very different from being technically correct.

There is nothing wrong in being proud of your talent as long as you are not immodest. Puja is modest enough to admit Emon and Amit are good singers. She is also being bold enough to say that Ankita is not as deserving. She is not attacking Ankita as a person, just as a singer. Its always good to be upfront rather than act out a charade.

Deepali had the X-factor too she was good singer with a very clear recording quality voice she could have been a good performer on stage and a good playback singer too. She lost mainly because of lack of votes and with very very less suport from hometown I dont think only X-factor can bring in votes...Parleen had X-factor but he didnt survive long in the competition. Last year some of the best singers had personality, looks and all but Sandeep with no X-factor won (because of extreme support from homewtown). Puja is right when she said Ankita needs to brush up her singing skills.... its a singing competition and it feels bad when a better singer gets out and a better dancer stays. Puja is a very good singer but Puja's biggest flaw is her attitude.......her frankness at times wll come across as arrogance to some people where results are public voting based....she needs to think before speaking u never know how others will react.....she should be more controlled and humble like Deepali. Deepali's elimination was unfair too but she did not speak against others or had grudges against anyone thats one of the reason Deepali won hearts after coming out. I hope Puja becomes more stronger emotionally

very well said. Puja needs to become humble in her approach. When she publically says things like 'I am senior', 'I hope people are seeing the difference and will vote accordingly', it goes aginast her. If you want to be a BIG person , u need to have a BIGGER heart.

I completely disagree with what you said. Puja puts in the most emotion in her songs compared to any other contestant. The very fact that people used to state she can sing sad songs implies that they could feel the pain in the song. Her tujhse naraaz and ek pyaar ka nagma are fine examples of songs filled with emotion. Deepali's Jab chaye and mera piya ghar aaya were again well emoted songs.

I think popularity is different from being most talented. In the case of II, talent does not matter, if you look good, can dance and sing mediocrely you can win. You get the 1 crore contract, the car and the album, but how many people would actually buy the album of this winner? And less sales implies that no music director would notice this winner. We've seen it happen last year, so we can see it happen again.
