Shifa's guru ji is the famous music director, Ravindra Jain ji (Vivah, Henna, Kotwal Saheb - Ravindra Jain). He was born blind.

I remember some people mentioning he was the guru of one of the contestants. Now we know who. 😊

I guess this would explain Shifa's classical background and song selection. I was really impressed with her Devdas song, kahe chhed chhed mohe. 👏 What I liked the most about the performance was that she did not really sing in her normal speaking voice. She was really good today. Like I said in some other thread, I admire the song choice. When others were picking upbeat/peppy songs and item numbers, Shifa picked something completely different.

I was not that impressed with her initially. But I can say she is the surprise of the first piano round episode. 👏 Great confidence too. 👏

I really glad Farah is not judging the show anymore. She would have surely commented on Shifa closing her eyes while singing. Many other contestants did as well. For those who don't know, Farah Khan is anti-closing eyes when singing. 😆

Shifa was completely engrossed in the song. She definitely has a bright future. I'm sure she made her guruji proud with the performance. I just hope today's song choice does not go against her. Public voting, you know.

I am just going to watch the show now but I wouldn't say that Shifa is great because of her guru. Amey and Ravi both were Suresh Wadekar's students but were like Chalk and Cheese. I am going to watch Shifa without much expectations so I think that will do the trick.

I agree. Depends on the student as well. But I was impressed with Shifa today, not cos who her taught music or anything. I definitely think should make it to the next piano round.

From the Sify site:

Age: 17

Place: Mhow (Madhya Pradesh)

Occupation: Student (class XI)

  • A good singer and dancer, she inspired her mother to take up music classes.
  • Her family is musically inclined—her father plays the guitar—and they have performed on stage during a Mohammad Rafi night.
  • Her hobbies are painting and sketching, and she loves modern art.

    Judges' comments
Alisha: Competition is fierce, but you are selected.

Aside: To celebrate her selection, she acted out the Nirma washing powder advertisement.

Sony, I wrote that because whenever someone sings nicely the credit goes to guru/mentor and when sings bad then whole blame falls on shishya😆. So I didn't want to be biased. I am so glad that she did well tonight.

I thought exactly the same thing.😆 Remember how she told off Meenal? This year, I hope there will be a little less emphasis on the so-called makeover and more on singing. Its sort of unfair on the girls because the boys don't really get much of a makeover, they can look more or less the same, but the girls always have to look pretty.
