Was looking forward to y'day's episode for 2 reasons…Javed Akhtar…now he's the one who never minces words and gives his honest opinion….and of course Karu….
Despite complains about the postponing of the grand finale( is it because theres an India- Pakistan cricket match happening today??).. And moving away from the regular format… I think it was a great idea to showcase the talents of the 2 finalists on separate episodes..giving them a chance to prove their versatility by singing songs of different genres
Now lots of people were waiting to see how Karu would sing the song posed as a challenge to him by his co contestant….and the way he performed was I think marvellous…here was a song where he couldn't play on his strengths…so he drew from his years of training and pulled off an almost perfect rendition…I don't remember him slipping anywhere…and to the judges who said something was missing etc etc…all I can say is BAH
And Javed Saab…ur first comment on the talented lad and u pick on his pronounciation…I was disappointed…but then u made it up when u defended him later when Sonu was commenting on how Rafi had sung Kar chale…brings us back to the point on why pronounciation is such a big issue…or is it just that they couldn't pick on anything so they started talking about it…anyway for this song I think the judges were more guarded..maybe because of the criticism in the media about them blatantly favoring Karunya…
Second song: Non Filmi pop…wonderful choice Afreen Afreen…what lyrics and what a compostion by the Late Nusrat Fateh Ali….and Karu's singing was wonderful…he was back in his comfort zone so you could see his confidence in his performance….absolutely amazing…Loved Sonu's comment about Lisa Ray…naughty Sonu…wonder if wifey allowed u back into the house after that
Kar chale: I think it was nice…the Judges thought there was soul and emotions….for me it was nice…and I think Karu has done better than that on more than one occasion..I did enjoy the banter about patriotism that followed….and Karu had the last word…Javed Akhtar said some rather profound things about art…something about art being a combo of craft and passion ….made sense
Last song: Prem Jaal…lovely folk song..Karu was back into his element….a Sukhwinder song is home ground after all…and he was having a nice time…Judges went all the way this time…but still grudge them for not praising him enough for the first song….Sonu started saying something about him singing Sukhwinder songs…and kinda did a U turn and made the comment positive…
The high point : Sonu singing sandese aate hain…what a voice…boy all these reality show contestants have still got a looong way to go….
Avoidable: Anu's Shayari and singing
Good Advice: Javed Saab telling the Janta not to vote for the bechara but for the talented guy
Fun moments: Karu and Sandy in that mock musical fight…they have some good chemistry…
Large hearted comment of the day: Sandy giving Karu a 10/ 10…
Well that's all…Good Luck Sandy for tonite…hope u rock and give Karu a tough fight!!!
