They want someone with the voice of a playback singer and the attitude of a pop icon. Someone who has the complete appeal, for the masses as well as for the classes. Just like Abhijeet Sawant. He's a pop icon. He has the voice of a popstar and a playback singer too. Why so much emphasis to playback singing? Becuz thats essentially a part of our culture. Playback singing plays a very important role in the music Industry in India today. I personally like to listen to songs in the movies if they are placed at the right moments. And there are millions just like me. There are millions like you too. So why not find a voice that serves both the sides. :)

I know, its sad that playback is the be all & the end all of Indian Music. The judges are not looking for a "pop" singer. They are looking for a playback & thats it. The three of them have maintained that long before II1. Abhijeet does jack for me...but thats an all together a different story. Oh well we dont have to agree...We can agree to disagree :)

I disagree to agree! I think they're looking for a pop icon... a rockstar rather! NOT a playback singer. Sony has rejected hundreds of classically trained singers before they even sang in front of our three very revered judges! Aren't you aware of that? Playback singer= Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. Rock Star = Indian Idol. Period.

Unfortunately ... SGMP seems to be going off track lately ... emphasis on performance ... and letting the public vote (which is more suitable for Indian Idol format) wherein all factors such as looks, attitude etc have an effect and sometimes actually take the front seat when compared to the actual maal i.e. singing in sur, rooh etc ... i guess SGMP shud stick to producing playback singers and II a more all rounder !!!

Right but i remember abhijeet not qazi+rupu that much though.But no other ii can get better than abhi!!!
