The reason for me starting this topic is to find out how many of you believe in music to be an international language?

There are hundreds of songs out there that I totally love yet i don't understand the lyrics as I don;t speak that language. Few of my favourites are from GYPSY KING and I swear I have no idea what the songs is saying but the voice of the artist and the music makes smile.
There are few singers that were heard on the streets or in a local show singing in a different language, but the music director fell in love with their voice and gave them a chance to sing for their movies or albums.

To me, it's already a big deal when a reality show singer is given an opportunity to share mic with big names. What's the problem if the song is not in Hindi? Funny thing is, if a reality show singer is given an opportunity to sing in ENGLISH for a hollywood movie, it's considered a HUGE DEAL but if the song is in Telegu, some see it is a shameful thing, r people for real??
I believe we gonna end up seeing wrong candidates
winning votes in musical reality shows, as people have very poor mentality, let alone taste.

Well its not considered a shameful thing as such.

Telugu is limited mostly to South India and more specifically in Andhra only. Hindi remains the main language spoken all over India. So obviously Hindi singers tend to get more recognition.

Same case is with English also. English is an universally accepted language. That's why there are plethora of singers and bands not only in Hollywood but all over the world.

You also say that despite not being able to understand the language you enjoy the song. Well I don't know about others but I usually do not listen the songs if I do not understand the language. Yes I have heard some songs from Ricky Martin and Alizee but I do not enjoy hearing them again and again.

Yess I agree with you. People ALL OVER THER WORL - be it China or Africa or whichever corner of the Earth, they just worship at his feet..
And I've heard the in some regions of Africa, he's literally a GOD to people..
Coming back to the topic, I agree with you, Z.. but, I don't think it's SHAMEFUL to sing a telugu song..
I listen to Tamil, Hindi, Kannada.. and some Japanese songs! :D ~ And none of these are my mother-tongue.. :)
I really am not aware of the fact when it's considered shameful to sing a Telugu/tamil.. It might be something which would be new and different to the viewers around the globe, but it's definately not inferior to sing SI songs.
It's music afterall..
BTW, nice topic Z! 😃 Hope to see many topics coming from you!! :)

I truly believe music has no boundaries. That is why even a well composed piece of music, even a solitary piano or violin concerto can evoke emotions of sadness, joy, excitement, and put you in any state of mind. Add to it a whole ensemble recreating an ambiance, accomplished singers who don't just sing but emote their songs - you don't need to know the language. You listen - and you don't just hear - you feel and understand the song.

I've actually picked up French, German and Russian solely by listening to songs.

Well although techno is not one of the most appreciated dialects - but still here you go.

Did you know that techno is actually the most scientific music as in the BPM in the composition is the same as the human heart rate in an excited state - thats why some music is actually so naturally foot tapping the beats are subliminally altering your heart rate, and getting your body going. Trance and psychedelic recreate jarred heart rates recreating a trippy elated feeling without consuming trippy things.

To me this is perhaps one of Michael Jackson's song with the most feel. As a kid I had no idea what skinheads, deadheads, jews and kikes were - or what Roosevelt was about - but I got the frustration and anger in the songs.

Actually, although he has a bad rep a person with extreme feel in his music is Eminem.
