Any track by A.R. Rehmaan carries a lot of expectations and this one is no different, at least of paper. But you just can't hide the fact that the background music being played cleverly disguises the plain mediocre singing done by sadhna.
Sadhnaji, kahaan haye aapke sargam?
The track starts with an energetic tune and then the words-banno rani, tujhe sayani, hona hi tha..being sang by sadhna. It doesn't sound like a song, but rather like a forgotten poem being rehearsed and versed into a song. Its flat, just plain flat singing with no control of sur anywhere.
One more drawback that goes against her is that she seemed hurried in completing the song without even making an effort to either add any feel or that important voice modulation which would atleast made it a bit more tolerable....this just doesn't make the cut. Same goes for the flat scale with too much inconsistencies.
The track does have a few pluses like singing the second verse in one breath and showing of energy as the song peaks, but this energy is all from upar upar se, not from the heart. It just sounds artificial.
The only saving grace is just the tunes-a combination of retro modernity with a hint of jazz thrown into it. Otherwise, this song is utterly forgettable.
And the singing quality just sinks without a trace for the end listener. It comes and goes and you wouldn't even notice it.
Why? Just listen to it and maybe you too will agree with it.
This is a tie breaker round, so scoring will be strict, very strict.
