^ well few people have that talent to pull off pure classical songs without much training. but majority wouldn't be able to pull it off without a solid background in classical music. i'm speaking from experience and nothing else.

Aman, could you tell me who is your teacher?
I watched your videos and in my opinion you can sing and apke gale mai harkate aur mukeyan hai. All you need is a good Ustaadji.

Yes, versatility is really important in today's times. Previously, Indian music was very restricted to only one type of genre: classical. But in today's times, there are different types of genres in Indian music. You hold that edge when you are versatile and can try singing all types of music with ease. Just like Sonu Nigam, he holds the edge than all the other male singers.
However, success should not be confused with being versatile. You can be successful without being versatile. Take Kailash Kher as an example. But, you have an advantage when it comes to a person being a versatile singer. The more versatile you are, the more better of a singer you are, IMO as you have explored the various corners of music.

No it's not a must. As many have mentioned, there are singers who are very successful today, but can only sing in one genre or one style.

But even in reality shows, it's not that important. Himeshji himself tried to make his contestants sing whatever they were good at singing, because at the end of the day, they are not going to be singing the other types of songs anyways. You can't expect someone who only has that classical type of voice and style, to suddenly master the hip-hop party songs and take over singers like Shaan and K.K. in that genre. Just not happening. Make them sing what they are good at and make them better at what they are good at.

OMG I LOOVE Ustad Wadali Sahab! He's too good! And you can hear hints of his Ustad (Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Sahab) in his singing today. Like in Khan Sahab's thumri sung by Wadali bros:

I just died a little. And went to heaven....

As I am not able to keep up with the show, I don't know anything about the question I'm about to ask. But for those that follow the show, which singer has the potential to do well whether it be on the show or after the show despite the results?!

Hmm.. the show has many good singers. My favourite from the start has been Sreeram Chandra - he's actually already a playback singer in the Telugu film industry! You can tell why - he has a great voice, great feel and great control...

Then there are Shashi and Vishwas who are great too. All of them are really good actually! It's hard to pick right now 😳

It's good to be versatile but at the same time if one mastered the art of singing a particular genre then that person can mark a niche in the music world ...e.g Kailash Kher and Sukhwinder Singh...

No matter how much shaan screams subhanallah ...he can never match the throw and pitching of Kailashji ...But to sing in more than one genre gives u wider scope ...and classical singing is the foundation of good music...but if one has god gifted voice and sense of rhythm and beat then that person also becomes established singers by doing constant ryaaz...Sunidhi once said in the show Yeh shyam Mastani that she practices at least 4,5 hrs almost everyday ....Doing ryaaz everyday hones ur skill to be a good singer ...all thse singers who have become successful have been so because they followed certain guidelines ....eat right, minimalise food habits that's not good for throat, breathing exrcise, daily Ryaaz and rigorous or light classical training ....
Versatility is good ...but even if u are expert in one genre ...u have to maximise ur capabilties in that genre ....with tenacity, practice and discipline ...whoever did that sustained in the industry once they got that desired break , but whoever fell behind and got immersed in shows and concerts slowly vanished into oblivion....
Alkaji, Kavitaji, Shreya, Sunidhi portrayed those characterestics to sustain in the industry...
Otherwise , no matter how versatile u r ...I think practice and more practice makes a person perfect...That's why most of these reality show singers fall behind after this 15 mins of fame is over....They resort to shows and concerts ...hence forget to maintain the discipline...
I am not expert in this subject ..But I think if one is versatile but isn't disciplined ...doesn't practice enough.... fall behind..
.examples r many reality show singers...When I hear original singers' songs and then listen to these newbies ...i realise how far they have to go ....
just my 2 cents ....😛
