another song with high difficulty in my opinion is "taal se taal" from the same movie.

My two cents: The level of difficulty in this song was high, but NOT very super high. On an average the level of difficulty on a scale of 1-10 it would be an 8. Thanks! So you agree with my difficulty rating, too! But the way Richa ji carried out the song with such high difficulty is why I gave her a higher rating. Despite the fact that not all parts of hers were as strong as they could have been, she really gave it her best and brought a feel to the song. Obviously ever singer can use improvements. I would have given her an 8 but considering that the song was a difficult one and for the most she did justice to it, I gave a 9.

Xobile, the song you posted def has a higher level of difficulty. But come on we can't compare any singer to Lata ji or Asha ji and the way they carry out their songs. I believe in comparing, that's why when you first judged this competition, ssk said that he always thought 'xobile was the strictest marker'.They are legends of the music industry and have had tremendous training. I'm not saying the other singers haven't but still.Songs with a higher level of difficulty are those that make you stretch your voice out or those that are purely classical. I really think that this song for Richa ji is a difficult one. But they way she carried it off with flow was great work. I actually think she matched up with Sukhwinder Ji's standard. But of course you or no one else has to agree with me. Thanks for respecting my opinion!

I think this song (although quite off topic) has an equal amount of high difficulty especially the classical segments in it.

The last time we did this competition, I gave this song a 10/10! 😃

@ xobile - when it comes to judging i'm pretty strict to. i think a judge needs to be strict, if you know what i mean. and the most important thing as a judge to be unbiased. i really don't believe much in comparison though. i think its wrong to do that especially amongst such renowned names. but that's just me. haha. i always respect everyone's opinions. because i know that no one has to agree with anyone. and everyone is entitled to their own opinions. that song i posted deserves a 10/10. those classical notes are so hard to hit. i've tried singing the song but failed miserably since i don't have that classical training!

^^ Well yes, we should never compare to say 'Lata is better than Asha' or stuff like that, because they are both legends.

But of course as a judge I need a grading scale and I've always said that my grading scale for the female playback singers goes all the way to ten, but the ten has to be of the calibre of Lataji's songs in Lekin, or Ashaji's songs in Umrao Jaan. This helps me be more objective when I'm weighing up performances.

Yup, the sargam taans that Shreya did in that song were very well rendered. That was part of the reason why I gave her 10/10!

The best in this lot, her voice suits the genre of the song. She's got that traditional yet not-s-traditional touch to her voice.

A 9 from me 😛

Well I see your point of view. Its very good to have a judging standard. First off we are nothing compared to those singers and in my honest opinion we aren't someone who can judge them. Its wrong in my opinion, but because this is a fun game for interaction that's why I am rating. Someone brought up the topic of comparing Udit ji and Kumar ji and who was the better singer. I was objective on the comparison though, because for me both are brilliant singers and both have come a long way. Each has their own style and genre. If Udit ji is better at one aspect of singing than Kumar Sanu is better at the other. Comparisons have also been made between Kavita ji and Alka ji. And the same said for Udit ji and Kumar ji goes for these two ladies. I think they have sung so many exceptionally beautiful songs in their career and comparisons simply can't be made. Comparing Shreya to Alka ji or Kavita ji is very unfair as well, as Shreya does not have much experience in comparison to the elders. Nevertheless, she has managed to achieve so much within just the first few years in the playback industry. That's a huge thing for someone so young to do! Everyone has their favorites; mine has always been Alka ji and Udit ji. But after them so many more renowned singers have entertained the industry. AR Rahman ji, Shankar ji, Vishal-Shekar ji, Himesh ji, Pritam ji, Sonu ji, Kavita ji, Shreya, Sunidhi, Sadha ji, Mahalaxmi ji, Richa ji, Abhijeet ji, and so many more singers (naming all is just impossible) are all really so talented and amazing! And of course we can't forget the golden ladies like Lata ji and Asha ji. Each one has their plus points and bad points. 😆 I can make a whole list of those! 😆 So summing all of that up, comparisons are very hard to make.

^^ Hehe yup I agree, comparisons are hard to make. One person may value romantic songs, whereas another may be most touched by sufi songs. So the first guy will like romantic 'specialists' like Alkaji or Uditji and the second guy will like sufi 'specialists'...

We are nobody to judge these great people. But I have realised that by evaluating their performances in this game, we can gain a lot of knowledge (of singing) and pleasure (from listening to the songs carefully)!

And thanks for sharing your favourites with us! My favourites keep changing. But in Bollywood, I think Latadi and Rafi saab were perfection - these two always hold the top spot in my favourites list.

Everyone has different tastes. Everyone has different opinions. And each singer excels in what they are best at. So comparisons are very hard to make as a singer who is good in one form may not be as good in another form that another singer may be good in. Hope that made sense.
We do gain a lot of knowledge judging these singers. I have learned a lot in this short time as I too am a singer. Obviously not a professional and uncomparable to the level of these singers. But I try. Haha. Hopefully I make it to your "favorites list" in the future! 😆
