We sincerely doubt whether there's anyone left in the country who doesn't know about Indian Idol. Storming into its fourth year breaking all previous records, as it is the biggest show on Indian television. It has over one crore hits in its website that was created this very year due to the immense feedback from its viewers.
It was a perfect New Year beginning for the citizens of Kolkata when the seven Indian Idol-4 finalists along with Kailash Kher and Meiyang Chang rocked the windy evening of 6 Jan at Nicco Park with their trademark performance. The crowd was filled with enthusiasm. After all, this very platform has brought up talents like Aditi Paul, Antara Mitra, Monali Thakur and Emon Chatterjee in the recent past. This year, the East and the North East zones have been represented by the very talented Torsha Sarkar, Rajdeep Chatterjee, and Sourabhee Debbarma. They have showcased their talents right from the audition day till this hour when they are amongst the "Gala Finalists". The three musketeers are likely to battle for the top three places as they have been considered to be 'complete performers' by the judges. But as the show accelerates towards its finale, they have to face the challenges from Bhanu Pratap, Bhavya Pandit, Mohit Lalwani, and Prosenjit Kosambi who are all in the biggest talent hunt ever.
They were in the city which has supported them with lots of love and votes over the past months. And as the host puts it, "It is the smartest, most talented and most ambitious batch of Indian Idol."
As expected, there was a big queue, representing a fraction of the huge number of music lovers in Kolkata; the queue stretched as far as one could see from the main gate! It was real hard making it past the queue and the security staff while entering the grounds where there were thousands of people waited for the celebrities to perform. There were auditions of Indian Idol being projected on the giant screens when suddenly there was a huge 'bang!' with a sparkle of streamers, glitters and coloured paper filling up the stage, marking the entry of host Meiyang Chang. Chang, the heartthrob of the nation, was indeed awesome while singing "Tum Se hi" and making the audience scream along.
Up next was Rajdeep, one of the seven finalists to dominate the stage after Chang with "Dil ko chhuliya".
