I don’t understand how many times you people have to be told that Aditya did inform Malini Imlie was his wife when he came back to the city.🤪 Yes, Malini did make an informed choice of marrying him despite knowing he was already married to Imlie.😊
Aditya being rude to Imlie had no bearing on her ability to defy her marriage and return to PD. Aditya even offered her many opportunities when he offered to return her to PD himself. He tried to give her money too but she refused. She was the one who chose to accept him as a husband despite everything.
How do you define agency? I suppose agency for you is blackmailing a girl into marriage after buying her off with a financial debt you know she will never be able to repay. Agency is offering a girl (whose selfless tendencies you are very well aware of) the ‘deal’ to marry you or see her ex husband being framed in a case by you. Agency is doing 6 pheras on her behalf and giving her the ‘choice’ to complete the final one under duress. Is that what looks like agency to you?😊
Btw since you were kind enough to bring in bigamy again, I’ll say something I’ve been meaning to for a long time.
Bigamy means the act of marrying someone while being married to another person, yes? Assuming that marriage is a contract that unites the lives of two people physically, emotionally, socially and legally, Aditya never fulfilled that contract with Imlie while he was married to Malini. Therefore, he was never a bigamist in practice when he could have very easily taken the two sisters for a ride.
I do know how to stubstatiate my assertions with proof unlike making uselessly ad hominen statements which fall flat on their faces.
In Episode 26, Aditya decides to tell the truth to Malini.
In Episode 27, he tells her the truth; she faints from an anxiety attack. And, instead of consulting the doctor/her parents/his family on how to break the truth to her, he rescinds his words and tells her that he was just jooooking. "Imlie sirf hamare ghar me kaam karti hai woh bhi iss liye kyon ki uske gaonwalon ne zabardasti hamare saath bheja hai [...] Humne toh kabhi socha bhi nahi tha ki hum uss jhalli se apni shaadi ki baat chedenge aur aap seriously le lengi". He said all this without being prompted by Imlie. Lie by obfuscation is a lie hence Malini wasn't making an informed decision.
In Episode 28, he tells Imlie that he's sending her off to Pagdandiya because he doesn't want her back in his life.
In Episode 37, on the day of first Adini marriage, Aditya arranges for Imlie to be dropped off in Pagdandiya. Imlie tries to assert her wifely rights to which the agency champion responds, I quote : "Tumhari himmat kaise hui?" "[...]Toh yeh thi tumhari chaal" '[...] Kya socha tha muhmangi rakam de denge? [...]" yada yada. Please refer to the episode for more of his dialogues about dekhte hain Moon aur humara pyaar jeetega ya tumhari dhamki etc etc. Typing them out makes me want to puke.
In episode 38, Imlie doesn't want to break Malini's heart and Adini get married.I am still waiting to see Aditya's spine and the freedom he gives Malini and Imlie to make independent choices.
Aditya's offers to send her back to PD, that you assert in such a blasé manner, are as selfish and entitled as all of his other acts. Many women in South Asia stay stuck in abusive marriages because the social and economic consequences of being abandoned/divorced can be catastrophic on their and their children's lives. Aditya didn't ever spare a thought to what would happen to an 18 y/o Imlie if and when she returns to her very conservative village — jilted by her seheri pati.
Aditya Kumar Tripathi might be the most eligible, hottest, sexiest bachelor to a lot of women in the audience. Other people are known to have had more weirder tastes, but let's not pretend that choices and agency are unicorns which don't have any interpersonal or socioeconomic contingencies. Lol.
If there was no bigamy what was the need to tell Malini the truth twice, pray tell?
But I will indulge your contradictory logic here
Marriage is a social contract, eh? By that virtue, Aditya was married to Imlie in society. The entire village of Pagdandiya bore witness to it. He then proceeded to marry Malini, again, in front of Delhi High society. That's bigamy.
And if not, Imlie had the agency to either marry Aryan or fight with her mother and walk away.
She chose to marry Aryan.
