If you notice he was standing right next to her and as she danced she must have turned her back to him because he actually had to twirl her round for her to face him. So I would presume he saw it when her back was turned. Adi was coming from further away thus was slower.

What I found more fascinating was what he was actually doing before that. Imlie was dancing but he was standing there looking at people around them as if he had seen something on the floor/ in someone's hand??? So maybe he had spotted the knife.

I interpreted that as him awkwardly dancing lol

thats the Adi... thats the so called majority of indian males are... they think and behave they own the female in their lives be it mom, sis, wife and at some level daughters... as if they are the guards, care takers of those poor souls and she cant survive if not for their support.. but they tend to forget a female never takes step back cause she is weak but cause its her conditioning all her life to consider herself, her life, her choice as second to the male in her life...

and then its not alone by males.. that conditioning is done by so called fellow females as moms , grand moms... the day one mom takes a stand for her daughter that why my daughter should only learn cooking and not son.. why only she has to come back from college with a sink full of dishes, why cant my son wash his own clothes and help me in cleaning this house... this whole toxic masculinity will remain and will only get worse day by day.

cause we have taught girls to be stronger and learn to handle those male around but no one taught sons how to handle a strong female.. a girl who can take up stand for herself and can question ur decisions.. and Adi is doing is exactly same.

his mom is all time.. adi beta maan ja adi aisa mat kar... adi sudhar ja.. mallu mam...sab imlie kar rahi hai.. these 2 ladies are feeding his toxic masculinity nd when Imlie challenges it.. he could not handle... he just could not stand being proven wrong... no one had ever done that to him in past..

so thats the whole conclusion of Adi babu being all distraught now...

See, if he had been embarrassed or refused to face the world then also I would have taken it as victim shaming. But the problem is different. He was shown as having a problem with Malini being hounded by the law than his own violation, even prior to any evidence turning up, alongside his vehement denial to Imlie's stance. So it's not embarrassment, the issue is Aditya's position in this situation. He chose to believe his friend over his wife because in his view, which he thinks is always right, Malini is not wrong.
