There are just a couple of things in today's epi that are worth dwelling on.
Rishi maintained complete silence when he was being questioned about Zara. He had no answer. Zara stepped in and denied that they had married. Some of us had expected that she would be the next mahaan person in the hallowed environs of Sharma Nivas. So she lived up to expectations.
But this sudden volte-face by Rishi has really jolted her. She is beginning to ask the questions that she should have asked much sooner. She was perhaps feeling so secure in the love that Rishi promised her that she never thought of questioning her identity (except the once when Malik uses it against her). I really felt bad for her. She trusted him, trusted her instinct, and is now feeling let down. Right now, she does not belong anywhere. She is not even comfortable with her name because Malik gave her one identity and Rishi convinced her about another.
Anyway, she is on a mission now. She is down, but not out. Her first words to Rishi when he apologizes to her on the staircase indicate how she feels about the role he played in bringing her into this situation. She remembers his uncertainty and vacillation when she had raised the point that she may not be Indira. She asks him why he protested so loudly even when the entire family was of the opinion that the Lahorewali was NOT Indira. In effect, she is trying to find out what makes him so convinced that this Lahorewali is his Shrimatiji. She is also indirectly asking him why he put these doubts aside and married her.
And to this, Rishi's response is "Saare saboot cheekh cheekh kar keh rahe hain ki woh hi Indira hai" Even now, I am unable to understand how Rishi's mind is working. She is unable to as well. So, to state the truth to him because he will not do so himself, she asks him, "Aur aapka dil bhi yehi keh raha hai na?"
"Lekin iska matlab yeh toh nahin ki mera pyaar khatam ho gaya aapke liye"
She cannot believe her ears. (Neither can I.) She cannot also believe that she loves this man who is perhaps totally confused about what love is.
He tries to tell her how great she is because she is setting him free to do what he likes while she tries to resolve her issues on her own. But she puts that in perspective right away by telling him that she is doing because she is driven by her own need to know who she is and where she stands in the entire scheme of things.
I am now really confused about Rishi. What does he see happening between Zara and himself? What shape does he foresee this relationship taking? I don't know what tomorrow's episode holds for us in terms of Rishi-Zara, but I am not sure how Rishi is thinking of this relationship. He is clearly happy to care for the Lahorewali, but until he takes his relationship with Zara to some sort of conclusion (by taking a decision on his own without being influenced by anything or anyone) his conscience cannot rest easy.
This is NOT a Rishi bashing post. I am really looking for a meaningful discussion. Especially after the few words that Rishi and Zara exchanged today, I don't know what to make of him.
I have taken to writing really long posts! Thanks for bearing with me.
