The reason why I am posting this, is because over the past couple of months, well to be exact, since Dan began to rehearse for Equus.
I have noticed in the Forum that many members, found his role inappropriate, as he had to do some scenes which meant he had to be naked on the stage.
I have read many posts, saying things about Dan, and how he should not have done that, I have also read that, he is such a big celebrity, him doing this was just a silly and a cheap thing.
Can I just say that, Daniel Radcliffe will one day have to stop playing the role of Harry Potter, and when he is finished with that role, there will be a actor left within him.
All actors and actresses like to experiment with new and different roles, many have shaved their hair off (even women), and many have been and lived with people who are similar to their characters, just so they can get into the character.
Acting is just like a piece of art at the end of the day, and we need to respect that. When you go and see a painting and say "Oh! I don't know what that's meant to show," It might be that you don't understand and someone else will, and vice versa.
I think the main problem is that, some of us don't know what the play Equus means to a English audience, and what relevance it has with the British literature and history. Being a English Lit student in a British school, we had to learn a bit about Equus.
It is a very popular play which gets taught in English and Drama lessons, and is respected by the teachers as a very highly acclaimed play. It has been performed at the Royal National Theatre many times, and Dan's adaptation was performed at the West End Theatre.
Many adaptations of the play have been done, Dan is not the first! A film was made on it as well, and many play and film critics love to see these plays and film's, as their articles are full of criticism about them, and mainly the actor who plays the role of seventeen-year old Alan Strang which in this case is Dan. He would have occupied the stage more than any other characters in the play.
I heard on the news that, the first night tickets were sold out, many celebrities from Hollywood and British actor and actresses went to go and see him perform.(Orlando Bloom and Leonardo DiCaprio and many more). Even Jo has been to see it. 😆 They all came out saying that it was a very difficult role, and he acted very well. 👏 I agree that, some of us find it nasty and a insult to his HP career. (not in those words exactly). But its his choice, and I think we should accept that, and not say things about him and his choices.
That's all I had to say, about this, think I went on a bit, sorry just had to take it out. 😆 😕
The bottom line is that, he did that because the role required it, and he is not the first to do such scenes
I apologies from the bottom of my heart if someone found this offensive, but it was necessary that I tried to clear this, at least for Dan and his fans, who start to think of him in a different way after reading such posts 😕
