Snape is a complex character.He isnt evil,and at the same time,he isnt totally noble either.Snape is a grey character,with ALOT of weaknesses and foibles..Snape dislikes Harry ONLY because he is James Potter's son,and James and Sirius used to taunt and tease Snape amny years ago.This example I cited corroborates that Snape isnt a very noble man,but Snape isnt completely evil either.Snape protected Harry against Professor Quirrel's curse in The Philosopher's Stone,Snape gave Umbridge the wrong potion,and informed the Order of the Phoenix about Harry's being in danger in book 5.

Snape would have certainly wanted to avenge James Potter,because he HATED James and Sirius.We do not know anything about what EXACTLY Snape told Voldemort about the prophecy.As it is,Snape had heard only a part of it,and I strongly suspect it was Snape who tipped Voldemort about Harry Potter...Neville Longbottom too was born on the same day,but Snape perhaps saw to it that the Potters were destroyed as he intensely disliked them both.BUT,Snape not being THAT negative either he wouldnt have wanted Voldemort's nemesis to die,because then,there would be absolutely NO ONE to stop Voldemort,which meant he(snape) was forever going to be a slave of Voldemort,which I reckon Snape wasnt too interested in.As I said earlier,Snape perhaps worked hand in glove with Voldemort out of sheer fear,just as how all other Death Eaters too serve Voldy out of fear.So Snape,being selfish machinated a ploy,where James Potter(his arch enemy)dies,AND at the same time,he (Snape) gets freed from Voldemort's terror..Snape wanted to have the cake and eat it too😛..The ONLY way this would be possible was to somehow save Harry and destroy Voldemort.Snape isnt as powerful a wizard as Voldemort,so there was no way he could take on Voldemort single handedly...Snape thus devised a plan...MAYBE Snape knew how to retract the soul from a horcrux,which he did,and incorporated it into Harry..Which meant,when Voldemort took on Harry,he was attacking HIS OWN SELF,which rendered him completely powerless...I take back another of my earlier postulates,that Lily Potter's LOVE wasnt of any significance...It was LILY'S LOVE which SAVED HARRY...Repeating again,LILY SAVED HARRY,but she wasnt the reason why Voldemort was destroyed...Voldemort by attacking Harry,attacked himself,and was destroyed but the boy was protected by the magic of love,which saved him

As you said,there was no way that Voldemort would entrust Snape with his soul(my theory about Voldemort handing his soul to Snape is rather ludicrous,which doesnt hold any water 😆 )..

Yes, possible... but no one has really said before, how a horcrux was made... so what if you don't need a wand? Dumbledore can do so many things with just his hands! And Voldemort is honestly very very powerful, and an excellent wizard.!

He doesn't need to kill harry to make him a horcrux! He needs to kill. to make a horcrux. He didn't kill the ring? the book? He might have killed James and Lily and later instead of finding a valuable thing, just used Harry I guess,.. since his death was so important... The only hitch is, why would he want a dead body horcrux? 😕

thats wat i was saying! why wud he kill something hes making a horcrux out of? like i said before, wouldn't that defeat the purpose of making a horcrux?

and quite frankly, these were the same thoughts going through my head once i heard of this theory... however, being the harry potter dork that i am, i searched to find reasons DEBUNKING this theory, because i guess im in denial!!

But honestly, this theory is very popular, i wonder, really, if such a popular theory will be the endof such of series of books which has been quite unpredicable...?

And on snape, yes he is a very "grey" character, in fact Jo told us that indeed, we are yet to know the true nature of snape's loyalty.. thank you, Jo.

till now we assumed that we found out where his true loyalty lied, but it seems it does not lie with voldemort.. your right, snape is quite selfish, in fact like harry said: SNAPE IS JUST LIKE THE DARK LORD... half blood, wanting to be something... Snape wants to be something, somebody, because he like Tom Riddle, has the skills, he like Voldemort, has the cunningness, that he is able to fool everybody, and thereby make his own plan to recognized...

ladies and gentlemen, Jo never adds useless details in her stories (like how harry said that snape is just like voldemort)... infact these details are so significant, that they become the ultimate plot of the next book... Snape has no loyalty, his loyalty lies to himself, he is his own person, he like the Dark Lord, needs nobody, he needs no friends, he is his own man.

now that we've gone offfff topiccc... i'd like to add that GOD FORBID harry has to die via the fact taht hes a horcrux... that wud be totally depressing

Good one there, yeah the fact about Harry being a horcrux has been discussed so much , that in all probability , if it was indeed true, it would be a surprise. But its undeniable that JK has built up the connection between Harry and Voldy, in almost a thrilling way in the last two books which leaves a lot as food for thought , and every minute detail as someone mentioned earlier in the post that JK includes only adds as clue to what is to be revealed in the forthcoming book!!!
