CHAPTER 4
Alex didn't know things would be this tough. She thought she could handle it. It turns out it was tough. It was only the third day and she was getting really bugged with the muggle transports. They shouldn't use magic as the ministry shouldn't trace them either. And juggling between auror training and the stupid job at the newspaper and having to live with Sirius was not an easy task. She was walking back from the bus stand and kicking stones on the way. She was already a day overdue and she had to give in her assignment by tomorrow. And some stupid work. Sirius will have to do that. Lazy git. All he does is watch stupid music videos on TV, which he thinks is a great invention. She opened the gate to her house and took a step inside. She spotted something out of the corner of her eye and took a step back, one hand on the handle of the gate and peering over the compound wall into the other house. Standing in the garden was none other than Sirius and he wasn't alone. What was Sirius doing there when he had to be working? And he wasn't alone either. He was with a girl. A flaky blonde was who it looked like from where she was standing. There was no doubt what they were doing. Sirius + flaky girl = MAJOR flirting. Alex leaned over to get a better look and she twisted her leg. Lucky she was wearing sneakers. Not that she wears anything else.
The girl was wearing a shocking pink miniskirt and a peach v necked sleeveless. She was a blonde. And a shocking flirts. She couldn't believe how outrageously they were flirting. She couldn't hear any words but could see them clearly from where she stood. She looked between them and a funny feeling arose in her. Then went inside, swinging the gate closed with a noise and making sure to bang the front door shut.
"Who is it?" called Lily from inside.
"It's me!" grunted Alex.
"Great! Could you please come in here and give me a hand with the dishes!"
"Sure!" she said setting down her bag on the couch and heading towards the kitchen. She picked up the wet dishes one by one and started wiping them. She looked out of the window and realized she could still see them flirting.
"Sirius is so disgusting!" she exclaimed to Lily. Lily saw her looking out of the window and smiled fondly.
"Well, he has always been like that! He is really nice you know!"
"I can't even begin to imagine!" she said sarcastically, "why does he have to flirt with every girl who throws herself at him?"
"I guess he likes it! There is no harm in a little flirting is there?"
"No harm. But why does he have to do it the way he does it?"
"Alex, that made no sense!"
Alex was looking at Sirius and the other girl with a hint of a frown on her forehead.
"That's Ida. Our next door neighbor." Said Lily seeing where she was looking.
"Neighbor? You mean she is going to be like next door?" she exclaimed.
"Yes… I think that is what neighbor means!" said Lily with a laugh.
"But then… they will be flirting like everyday!"
"Is there a problem Alex?" asked Lily, looking at Alex closely for the first time since she came.
"No!" said Alex hurriedly, tearing her eyes away from them, "Not at all!"
She tried to ignore the fact that Lily was watching her closely throughout.

Sirius entered the house humming a song and walking to the beat.
"Hey Lily! Hey Alex!" he said chirpily. Lily acknowledged him as she was going up the stairs to take some rest. Alex was sitting down, trying to get her assignment done. He sat down on the bigger couch. Alex did not miss the satisfied smile on his face.
"I see you have met Ida!" she said coldly.
"Oh, so you met her too? She seems really nice doesn't she!"
Alex made an angry disbelieving noise.
"What?" he asked her.
"Ya, she seems nice if you have been flirting with her like for 2 hours after I came home!"
"Oh…" he said and then grinned, "you saw that huh?"
"I saw that? The whole town could have seen that. you guys were so obvious!"
"We really hit it off!"
"if you consider going goo-goo all over her and she laughing so outrageously at every word you say as 'hitting it off well' then no wonder you don't hit it off with me!"
"You need a break!" said Sirius in a dull tone as if he considered her crazy.
"Easy for you to say. I don't see you traveling from work to actual work to studying to home!" she snapped.
Then their voices rose to a babble. Nobody could decipher what they were saying exactly but Lily was pretty sure she heard the words 'Will', 'Ida' and 'flirt' quite frequently.

Sirius and Alex were working. They hadn't uttered a single word to each other since their argument. And Sirius was aimlessly sorting the articles. One such article caught his attention. It was pretty recent. 2 weeks ago.
"Alex!" he said, forgetting all about their fight as he read into the article, "look!"
"What?" she looked up irritated from her work.
"I was taking a walk and saw a skul with a serpent toungue!!" he read out, "Alex, it seems to be part of the rejected articles for the paper..!"
"What? Show me!" she said getting up from her work and walking over to him. he was sitting on the edge of the couch and there was space on the couch behind him. Alex got up on the couch and knelt down on the space behind, looking over his shoulder. Their eyes widened as they read the article. They were so surprised that Alex did not notice that she was clutching Sirius' shoulders for support or that her head rested against his cheek. Sirius didn't notice it either. Somewhere in the back of his mind the fact must have registered because he found that he couldn't pay complete attention to anything in particular. And he did not know why.

"This is huge! You have to tell Dumbledore!" said Lily as she read the article.
"I am contacting him now!" said James as he got up and went inside. He returned after a few seconds.
"Emergency meeting at headquarters in 10 minutes. Call off work today."
