Hi guys!

I just read the first part of Lord Of the rings. I am also halfway through the second book. I have seen that many ppl compare lotr with hp . The fans of hp keep critisizing lotr and fans of lotr keep critisizing hp😆

But i thought that LOTR is a really really really nice book. Its worth reading atleast once . Though its not as good as HP(maybe that's coz of my partiality to HP😆).

But i cudn't help noticing some similarities between the 2 books. For eg in LOTR , the dark lord is Sauron and in HP dark the lord is Voldy. In hp the supporters of the dark lord are called death eaters and in LOTR they are called Ringwraiths.

But still both the books are different in many ways.The first difference being LOTR is based on the year 1400s 😆 Both the books are good in their own ways(But HP is way better ofcourse😉).

So guys, have any of u read the LOTR ?

My friend let me borrow it but I got tired of reading it after a while! ^.^ But the movies are great~!

I know a lot of people say that JK ROWLING copied JRR Tolkien but I don't think she did. Haven't they ever heard of the phrase "Great minds think a like"? Well, anyway I think they're both great writers and shouldn't be compared with eachother because I simply think that's pointless... ^^

I definately like the Harry Potter series much more tho. 😊

It is like:

Harry = Frodo
Hermione, Ron, Neville = Sam, Pippin, Merry
Dumbledore = Gandalf
Voldemort = Sauron
Hogwarts = Middle Earth
Hagrid = Treebeard (giant tree)
House-elfs (Dobby) = Elves (Legolas)

So many more that I can't think at the top ofmy head now!

hey there,
I have read both JRR's LOTR and JKR's HP series (the latter which I think is pretty obvious isn't it 😉)

My say is they both are two very well written books. with LOTR and 1400 sumthing pages (abridged) its small when compared to the entire HP series.

but I must say again in their own right both are very well written witty books....

regards,

tejas

Hi misha, I read the LOTR book (unabridged version) in one go loooooong time back! Well....at first I got really bored with it in the party but it picked up pace when the hobbits and Strider meet and they are stranded at WeatherTop(which was scary!), after that I was really scared during Moria and the other 2 parts were scary too....but I loved that about it! 😆

Ofcourse, o comparison to HP but still.....its nice! And I ain't criticise! 😆

I tried reading LoTR, but I couldn't. I don't know why. I got bored.

I tried watching the movie. I didn't get halfway through the first one.

I don't know what is WITH me and non-HP fantasy.
