Hello Friends!😊
After watching Friday's episode and Nikhil enduring the insult from his boss...!! I could not stop questioning my self about what is self respect and how important it is for an individual?!!
I feel the show Gustakh Dil has become a show about self respect more than Love and soul connect which it used to be!! Anyway , I just watched some previous episodes ... then I felt that the writer and the C.V's have used this Self respect thing more to their convenience !! LOLπŸ˜†πŸ˜†
Let me list out:
1. During Laajo's wedding...Laajo put varmala to the scooter!!! for her self respect!! then we know poor Nik's had to suffer!!! By taking the place of that scooter!!! LOLπŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜† Well that was so good of C.V's we got to see the Love ... confusion...suffering etc after that!!!
2. Then we had that Sid episode...Laajo was literally thrown out of Bharadwaj mansion only to be saved by the messiah Nik's!!! Every body humiliated her but poor Laajo did not remember self respect and leave the place as she was busy getting Nik's to do the needful!!!πŸ˜‰
3. Umpteen times she was humiliated by Ishana, Nani and Barkha( My! what a deadly combination that was!!!🀒) But Self respect...No!! No!!! ( only for Nik's sake!!)🀒 oops C.V forgot about it!!πŸ˜†
Well there are many instances where we, Laajo , as well as C.V's forgot about Selfrespect!!!
Then we all were busy with Love...Lakhil... happy days !! after all the suffering... which did not last...again we were reminded of Selfrespect WTH?!!!😑
Laajo's great promise!!! for the sake of her SELF RESPECT!!! How can she remember it so fast?!! C.V's might have given her memory pills or she must have been on an almond diet or ( Barkha) !!! LOL πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜†
Poor Nikhil suffered with Laajo only for some selfrespect!! Must be he has started to hate that word!! So when he was body searched in front of his colleagues and some customers by his boss,
he took all the insult without remembering...S...Respect!! Some lady tried to remind him but he sort of ducked it as he remembered Patiala peg Aunty's rent and all those awful guys who interviewed him!!
( Must be scary!!!🀒)
So now my question is what should Nikhil do?!! Should he take Laajo wala path i.e give importance to Self respect and make everyone suffer or just forget about it !! ( yeah he just forgot about it!! I know!! thanks C.V's!!😲) I just want your opinion!! Did Nikhil do the right thing?!! or for that matter did C.V's do the right thing?!! by using self respect as a tool to torment us?!!😑
( N.B:: this is just a humorous take on self respect as is used in the show . My opinion is that self respect is important but it should not hurt people whom we love. There is a thin line between ego and self respect so we need to be careful!!😊)

yes self respect and balance of relationships and importance of relationships is USP of the show. I feel at various Phases the writers have tried to show what is important at what time.
I think at that time laajo was all about what is right, she had no knowledge of society and how it reacts to various actions...I feel the show is growth of Laajo as a person. She realized what her actions did to her family, I feel way she put varmala on scooter was wrong, instead she should have just refused to come out and get married. Later on she realized how her coming home with Nikhil affected and she decided to repent for sake of her family, she even got ready to marry old man for that sake so that was first step towards Laajo's awakening.
2. Then we had that Sid episode...Laajo was literally thrown out of Bharadwaj mansion only to be saved by the messiah Nik's!!! Every body humiliated her but poor Laajo did not remember self respect and leave the place as she was busy getting Nik's to do the needful!!!πŸ˜‰ yes I think at that time Laajo was more thinking of her family and their happiness, her own self respect took back seat.
3. Umpteen times she was humiliated by Ishana, Nani and Barkha( My! what a deadly combination that was!!!🀒) But Self respect...No!! No!!! ( only for Nik's sake!!)🀒 oops C.V forgot about it!!πŸ˜†
Well there are many instances where we, Laajo , as well as C.V's forgot about Self-respect!!!Yes at that time it was a sincere effort to win the family slowly with genuiness, even though slowly and steadily her self confidence started to erode, but then it started to change for Laajo, her love for Nikhil became more important than love for her own family that is when she decided to change status quo, also Nikhil's anger pushed her to new low...hence leaving Nikhil then getting sick...she got a bit of positive shock in form of Nikhil's immense support for her in her sickness, I feel Cvs showed that Nikhil's worry for her and her own deep love for him prompted her towards moving forward to study .
LOL πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜† Even though I don't disagree with spirit of Laajo's decision of trying to move up for Nikhil's sake, I don't mind her being away from Nikhil at all but I hate her not talking to him even on phone.I mean she shouldn't have told him she was in delhi but she could have called him every day or may be every week. They could have looked forward to it but😑 cvs wanted more drama but I feel they should now at least show that ranjo tells nik she calls laajo and how laajo is happy for nik and is working towards her own goals and how much she misses him every day,it would cheer poor guy and poor us bothπŸ˜†

@my replies in bold above I think nik has taken self respect route with his family,Barkha's words prompted him to act on self respect and move forward but he is smart enough(thank god for that) that he cannot be working about self respect every where. For his self respect and his ultimate goal of life my advise to him would be to take a humble pie...I think Writers want to show that for a bigger goal of proving your self worth you need to make many sacrifices and one should know when and where to balance self respect verses bigger goals of life. I know post is more for show and I answered bit on serious note lol but I feel just like u that there is thin line between Ego and self respect, one needs to always always remember that and in laajo's case it is crossing a bit over to ego and barkha is all about ego...and poor nik is suffering but am glad that he is becoming stronger in the process..BTW lovely post
Ps I came today as I am at work but am not going to be in tomorrow friends, unless something changes at work and I need to come to check stuff, otherwise guys its long weekend here in Canada and I wish all of u well and see u Tuesday.

Hi! Sami ,
Thanks for all the wonderful comments. Yes , I agree word to word of what you have written. I know Self respect is a serious subject, but I just thought to give it a satire!! as we all are reeling under some crappy stuff that has creeped into the show.
My opinion is in the beginning Laajo was surely not that mature to know about societal norms so she just did what she thought was right, honestly she did the right thing. But it did hurt her parents to some extent. So we had that wedding of Laajo and Nikhil!!!
In the Sid episode, they not only humiliated her but also questioned her character!! Isn't it too much for a woman to take?!! Well Nikhil took her side, but still she was crying instead of telling Nik that this is too much!! So I felt C.V's highlighted her love for her family and respect for Nik , as more important than self respect!!
Then with all the deadly three, here also she gave more importance to Love over self respect ( though the love was one-sided).
But when time came for togetherness and Love , Laajo suddenly was hurt with Barkha's rhetoric , she remembered how she was humiliated at the resort by Nikhil!! And all the humiliation she endured thereafter for being a village simpleton. But when She and Nikhil mutually promised each other to let go of the past , was it necessary for her to doubt Nikhil's attitude when he assured her of his commitment and Love ? I can agree that she wanted to show the high society people of what she is capable of as her self respect was hurt. But why should she make Nikhil suffer in the process?!! Why did Love take a back seat? how did she forget those promises she made to Nikhil?!! That's somewhere I felt the C.V's did not clear the air on self respect, they used it as a tool to separate Lakhil!! And that Self respect crossed over to ego and hurt pride of Laajo!!
I think nik has taken self respect route with his family,Barkha's words prompted him to act on self respect and move forward but he is smart enough(thank god for that) that he cannot be working about self respect every where. For his self respect and his ultimate goal of life my advise to him would be to take a humble pie...I think Writers want to show that for a bigger goal of proving your self worth you need to make many sacrifices and one should know when and where to balance self respect verses bigger goals of life.
Yes , I agree that Nikhil was right to take the self respect route with his family as they were the trigger for him to be away from Laajo and especially Barkha thought him to be a useless and hopeless fellow without the Bharadwaj name!! I am happy that he used the Self respect thing judiciously as he has a bigger goal to achieve!! Here I thank the C.V's for the positive portrayal of Nikhil , as a man with a heart and head in the right place!!
I know post is more for show and I answered bit on serious note lol but I feel just like u that there is thin line between Ego and self respect, one needs to always always remember that and in laajo's case it is crossing a bit over to ego and barkha is all about ego...and poor nik is suffering but am glad that he is becoming stronger in the process..BTW lovely post Thanks for the support. Well your analysis is right and I am happy that we got to read the serious side of it too. I just was humorous to lift up the mood . Yes in hindi we have only one alphabet difference between ego and self respect i.e Swabhimaan( self respect) and Abimaan ( pride)!!!! that tells everything!!
Ps I came today as I am at work but am not going to be in tomorrow friends, unless something changes at work and I need to come to check stuff, otherwise guys its long weekend here in Canada and I wish all of u well and see u Tuesday.
Thanks once again for giving so much of your time. We will miss you!!

Hello Friends!😊

Let me list out:
1. During Laajo's wedding...Laajo put varmala to the scooter!!! for her self respect!! then we know poor Nik's had to suffer!!! By taking the place of that scooter!!! LOLπŸ˜† Well that was so good of C.V's we got to see the Love ... confusion...suffering etc after that!!!
Haha Varshi Varsha good one there πŸ˜ƒ This show is all about pride and self respect and i used to like it for that. That scenes with the scooter is hitherto unseen and it was really something.

When she was @ Nik's house, her self respect kept doing the high jump, she wouldn't go back even after the umpteenth humiliation. But the day Nik's accused her of ruining his life, she dumped him and fled off to cry in Saraswati's lap.
Yeah and that challenge is all about self respect again... But she just forgot about Nik's pride and self respect in the process. He's enduring great humiliations for her sake. As if the guy hasn't dont enough for herπŸ˜•

Poor Nikhil suffered with Laajo only for some selfrespect!! Must be he has started to hate that word!! So when he was body searched in front of his colleagues and some customers by his boss,

CV's went too far with these humiliating scenes, and it's quite unrealistic. I mean, who does this kind of thing nowadays? Nik's should never have accepted to give in to her whim. Sorry.. But for me, it's just a whim. She wants to be equal to Barkha, but she forgets about her husband's self respect in the process. She should have been @ his side and not let him struggle all alone.
Not keeping in contact is total bakwaas, it pictures some kind of heartless Laajo. The worst part is that she did not give a Crap about the promises she made during pehre session.
But Nik's is keeping his promises.
( N.B:: this is just a humorous take on self respect as is used in the show . My opinion is that self respect is important but it should not hurt people whom we love. There is a thin line between ego and self respect so we need to be careful!!😊)

U are right in your conclusion, ego and self respect dance on the same line. Unfortunately, CV's made one big mistake with Laajo's challenge. It was all about ego and not self respect this time. As for Nik's humiliating scenes, it's some kind of turning the tables.. But they choosed the wrong target. They wanted to put him in the place of Laajo for a change, but his character is not adapted to such sce

Hey Guys,
I read the above post with interest, and the points you have written and analysed are well thought.

The GD episodes cover a huge range of states of society and of individuals, and that is one reason I have followed the series.

I liked your discussion on ego and self respect, and how the characters are playing their part around these themes.

Ratri, too is depicted as shallow and spoilt, she too has ego issues. In her opinion she will get to the top one way or the other. This shallowness is however universal the world over and in particular this theme is repeated by TV shows such as the X-FACTOR, which claim to make stars overnight, Young teenagers come on to the show and expect to become mega stars with hardly any talent in them. The sad truth is that even winners of these shows disappear quickly if they don't sell records, albums, shows etc. Every one is dispensable sadly.

Having said all of the above, I do feel that the current episodes are dull as ditch water, and there is danger of mass fall out of viewers to other shows. The powers that be need to rethink on regeneration of interest for us poor viewers.

Missed you here, thought that you disappeared as Nik's also is sort of disappearing only to be seen bearing humiliation!!! Ouch Happy that you had a good time with friends, once in a while we need to unwind!!😊 Thanks so much for the lovely comments. I agree that the Self respect is the USP of the show but it was also about how an unlikely couple gets married and falls in love with each other without their knowledge. All through they feel for each other, help each other but are unaware of what their relationship means to them!! It was about Love a selfless one and soul connect. But recently when everything got even, Laajo with her great promise of never to see or speak to Nikhil till she achieves her goal to reach that high pedestal alongside Barkha is something we cannot believe. It seems that C.V's want to show a tit for tat as far as Nikhil is concerned bearing all the humiliation ( which he once did with Laajo due the manipulation of the deadly trio!!)
But Life does not work like that!! and Laajo's character was so selfless to do that!! And why was that saath phere session again only to show people its only fun and romance and people don't take it seriously!! since Laajo just disregarded some of those promises for her personal goal!! leaving Nikhil to take them forward. Here the C.V's could not convince us!! with their self respect theme!!
Only one thing to be happy about is we saw Nikhil getting positive and facing the realities of life with a determination. Lets see ... dekhthe hain... what happens next!! hope they keep some things realistic so that we as viewers can connect with the show.
Thanks once again for the support. Take care πŸ€—

Hello ! Jatinder,
Thanks for taking time to read the post and for the wonderful comments.😊
G.D is a show which deals with varied emotions and their manifestations so I just got pulled in. To be honest , earlier I would hardly watch serials as I felt they carry a lot of negativity towards life with all the scheming, revenge , suffering etc. But with G.D it was something different and it had an unkown freshness. Having said this , I feel now the show is loosing track with some unrealistic and hypothetical things like Laajo seeking a promise from Nikhil not to see him or speak to him till she is accepted by Barkha. Is this possible? Can Love become a weakness so fast which had been Laajo's strength even when she was not aware that Nikhil loved her!! That's hard to digest!!πŸ˜•
Coming to Rathri, you are right she is disgusting!! I don't know what talent S.K the great star maker found in her!! She does not have the basic decency and professionalism which is required .
I think to show Laajo as a star in future, they have made Rathri vulnerable!! i.e look like a shallow egoistic and over confident girl who cares a damn for emotions and dedication.
I agree with a hoard of reality shows promising youngsters to become stars overnight has made the real talent disappear. It's all about getting fame overnight!! There are however some genuine talents who have been there for long, though the number is very less!! I think we have to live with it!!
Thanks once again. I was nice reading your comments.😊

Exactly thats what i thought when everybody including nikhil treated her very badly where
did her self respect gone then ? πŸ˜† I wonder the great laajo who just left her husband
for the sake of her damn self respect does nt even know the word then
.😑

3. Umpteen times she was humiliated by Ishana, Nani and Barkha( My! what a deadly combination that was!!!🀒) But Self respect...No!! No!!! ( only for Nik's sake!!)🀒 oops C.V forgot about it!!πŸ˜†

πŸ˜ƒπŸ€£ Excatly Varshitha

Well there are many instances where we, Laajo , as well as C.V's forgot about Selfrespect!!!

Laajo the most irritating person now on the show 😑

Poor Nikhil suffered with Laajo only for some selfrespect!! Must be he has started to hate that word!! So when he was body searched in front of his colleagues and some customers by his boss,

U know yaar before seeing this show i love using the word self respect but now i hate
the word to the core.😑 I mean there should be limit to anything .

Hi ! Swapna,
Thanks for the wonderful reply. Yes, yaar the show is loosing it charm !! so sad!!😭 And that too by showing Laajo in bad light after her " Bheeshm Pratigya"!! you know what I mean!!πŸ˜‰ that
sorry promise of her's that she will not meet or speak to her husband Nikhil till she is accepted by that wicked woman Barkha!! I don't know how suddenly Barkha became so important to Laajo than Nikhil!! Laajo for once made Love look weak in comparison with social acceptance!! WTH!!Angry
I can understand that in Indian society family comes first and Laajo doesn't want to break away Nikhil from his family, But what did Nikhil get from his family?!! I mean from his mother Barkha?!!
All the while he was a lonely child filled with guilt yearning for some Love and affection from his mom .With Laajo he got back a new lease of life free of guilt and filled with love. How can Laajo decide that if she stays away from Nikhil ( i.e ask Nikhil to be with his family), there will be some good change in Nikhil's relationship with his mom? In my opinion more than Barkha , Laajo has let down Nikhil by promising him happiness and then getting away from him.
Yes, it was Laajo's ego which hurt us more!! C.V's showed a selfless village simpleton Laajo at the end succumb to ego!! wow!! That 's the inspiration for this post!!πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜†
No hope that they will get some sense!! I am watching only for Nikhil becoming a strong determined individual showing his mom her place!! That's the only consolation!!πŸ˜•
