ya shibz even here ppl will look if we are out of odd but they wont for long time, many dont even look. I wear salwars outside here also and they are least bothered, infact some will compliment and say it is beautiful. My neighbour would ask what bindi is etc. But if I wear shorts to Indian store I can be 100% sure from the sabzi badalne wala boy to the store owner including will give stares and make me feel I wore something inappropriate , even if it is in USA. I am not ggenralising, some Indians dont care what we wear but the percentage of those who stare is high compared to the locals here who might stare if I wear salwar/saree.
Even in elementary schools here there is a dress code. Girls cannot wear tank tops or minis, boys should wear knee length shorts or pants. pants or shorts for both should fit on the waist, low fitting ones are not allowed, tops and pants should overlap when arms are raised, any clothing with holes (even if fashion) is not allowed. Like when I was in school my school had a rule for boys also they have to wear inner tee under white shirt, they cannot wear single layer shirt at any time. I read one article hear long back in a magazine on people who wear transparent clothes that show innerwear are more obscene than those who wear minis that is my thought as well, short clothes are much better than transparent ones.
Once my friend was staring at a girl who was wearng low cut, I asked him sharam nai aati kya aise gur rahe ho use, his reply jab use dikhane mein koi problem nai toh mujhe dekhne mein kya hai, over the years I dont think that argument has changed even a bit. I used to wear skirts even frocks to college, boys would stare but only from far no one dared to question or tease or comment about my choice and my mom would buy beautiful patterned skirts, my aunt would bring from US and we loved wearing them. that was also in small town about 10 12 years ago.
but I wonder these boys who watch so many movies and talk about cities where girls wear all kinds of dresses become so narrow minded when it comes to thier premisis, if they saw naaz in a city like delhi they would probably just stare from far, but here they just assumed she is open to everything and that is deep rooted mentality.
