Thank you Nur!!! *beams*

Minks - wow, I'd never think of that parallel - but how true! Its not my religion to know - but I've actually had a penchant for watching mythologies - the old Ramanand Sagar series - for many years, and have always been fascinated by the fantastic diversity in portrayal of Krishna, as opposed to a rather one dimensional Rama. Yes - if we were comparing Vasant and Kesar - that would be the exact exact difference, putting aside the literal divinity of your example! Very well pointed out!

While he has been good in Kesar's role from the word go - if we try and look at the variation and expansion of his expression base - not to mention the opportunities for it as his track progressed - he has really grown in the span of a few months. Its takes a very one dimensional commitment for a 'fast turning celeb' youngster like him to focus so learning and evolving every day!

Word, Jzee...he's always been good as Kesar but you can see the growth as an actor...and if you think about it's hardly been 5 months for him in this role! Most actors SLEEPWALK through that much portion of a show cuz that's hardly anything in TV-time, right? But man what Neil has done as Kesar in hardly 6 months is SUPERLATIVE in my eyes. He got a lot of scope so he is very lucky to have gotten this role but you can see that eagerness in him as an actor to learn, to grow like you said, Jzee...it's like he grabbed the opportunity he got with both hands and basically ran with it...explored his potential in every way he could and he has emerged as a finer actor from it for sure.

I don't know what he will be doing after this but in my opinion, this short stint as Kesar has probably been the most evolutionary experience for him as an actor that will be hard to top...here's hoping he does get opportunities to blossom further as an actor despite the largely stinted quality of roles available on TV.

Re: the Ram-Krishna comparison...as far as I'm aware, Ram is considered the ideal man..."Maryada Puroshottam Ram" while Krishna always had a more "flirty", naughty, boyish vibe to him...Krishna wouldn't be called idealistic.

However I feel that Kesar was so much more than just the term "bad boy" which somehow just sounds cliched cuz "bad boys" are a dime a dozen on TV...there is a standard bad boy prototype that most shows use and it is SO typical.

Kesar is what I'd call HUMAN before anything...he had EVERY shade to him as a human being...he wasn't idealistic...he went through highs, through lows...we saw the best of him, we saw the worst of him...in all of this, he was never evil, he was never saint-like...he was human...and all human beings have shades of grey...I'm SO thankful to the writers of this show for sketching such a wonderful character👏

Very true... Kesar is def not the cliche type-cast arrogant male lead... he was very human, like you said Nur... its much more believable than a selfless goody shoes guy, like Vasant who dreamt of "ek gaon, ek desh""??? its just a bit far fetched to me to believe in such a character...

Well, back to my main worry... can we plz have a good moment b/w Gulaal Kesar... showing their final "milan"... ahh.. for lack of a better word..

I can't 'like' posts (again!!) but you know...I will really really miss seeing Neil and Manasi together for the sheer powerhouses they are and that chemistry is just so REAL. Nothing ever seems over the top, things just fall in to place...their expressions, the way their voices compliment each other and even their body language!

As sad as it may sound, with the mandir scene I was happy to even just listen to their voices while surfing the net because they're just so convincing in their roles.

Even Manasi's portrayal has been soul-stirring. She really makes you sit up and watch everything she does closely.

*sigh*

Reemz: Manasi has been fantastic, that goes without saying...she is Gulaal...the soul of this show basically...but multi-layered male characters on TV are very very rare...and Kesar just happens to be one of the best ones I've ever seen.

I'm going to miss these two together as well...it's been a very unique kind of chemistry...a chemistry with a lot of conviction...they seem so convincing in their characters like you said...nothing over the top and just right...

Minks: We're all hoping for a final epic "milan"...LOL let's hope that our prayers are answered on that front *sigh*

They had super chemistry.. without any of the cliche moments depicted on them.. it was just simple looks.. and moments b/w them that could make you feel the intensity of their feelings... amazing actors... both of them...

@ Reemz, very true... I read Mansi's interview today, where she said that sometimes the director had to ask her to not be so confident and to show more of her vulnerability ... to show such emotions on screen can be soo draining on oneself, I cant imagine... she was on the verge of a nervous breakdown... due to the sheer intensity of the character she was portraying... so, kudos to her for being sooo focussed and so true to her character.. I could never for a moment feel that it is Mansi I am watching and not Gulaal... a real life person...

@ Nur... "We're all hoping for a final epic "milan"...LOL let's hope that our prayers are answered on that front *sigh*"

Amen !!!

Mansi has a come a long way to here Reemz - but yes, no one can take her credit away. In a way, the difference of Mansi and Neil is stark.

Mansi is an artist at heart. She thinks like one, learns like one, grows like one. She's the kind of person who would actually be disappointed to get herself struck in a cliche good for nothing role, and can credibly be believed to walk out of a high TRP show, if the disappointment comes to that... despite the 'popularity'. That bit in her interview about her taking a break to go to theater school in NYC sounds very Mansi. Yes, maybe the offers were not exactly flowing in - but it also kind of evident that Mansi pick of projects has progressively improved... none of the projects have lived their entire life in Gulaal's grace - but the theme's have not been cliche teen or saas bahu, post her first Balaji venture... I'm inclined to think that as a Balaji fresher, she must have had future offers from them at sometime - but didn't take them up because the 'creative' appeal to them just wasn't there... she's someone who could do that. Not just challenge herself, but also pick and choose what to challenge herself with... And really, she is the kind who can be disappointed by, or even demoralized briefly, by innate faults of a system which affect the evolution, recognition and acceptance of creative growth as such.

Neil is more, or even all about action. He's an artist far more in his focus which is crazy intense, than purely at heart. He's this eager child who wants to keep growing but he's not exactly Aamir's character from 3 Idiots... he doesn't just need his share of 'creative fill' but places success at an absolute equal pedestal, and really, that's fairer than most of the industry which is just aiming for success - with or without quality. His greatest strength IMO - is his hi-fidelity to anything he signs up for... he doesn't stop at being his best - he wants to keep improving his best, and I suppose he's one of those people who could live through years of this industry and still find it in them to 'learn' from any quarter - lesser or greater than himself! He's something of Arjun in a sense - can fix his aim to the eye of the bird and see only that. With incredible singular focus. So even when he's in projects like KB - and can see how awry the story line is going, how distorted the theme - he can actually shut all that out and focus simply on his contribution and aim at reducing imperfections to that everyday. He's not the kind to strive for changes in a system, but in himself.

And that's why Mansi and him are such a good team. They complement those traits in each other as artists.

(this took AGES to type... I think I'll be calling it night soon now...)

On a completely unrelated note - does anyone still feel the cringe reaction to PB scenes? I didn't think I'd say this, but her 'remorse' is even worse than her 'attitude' :| :| :| :S
