Part 11 - Mera Haq hai tumpar

As they exited the airport, Guddan extracted her phone from her jeans pocket and saw 17 missed calls from her uncle husband.

She looked towards Akshat feeling guilty and in response and he gave her a chilling glare. Way to beat the heat of Rajasthan! Guddan thought and sweat dropped.

"Phone silent rakhne ke liye nhi hota, tum... AJ had just started with his lecturing when Guddan cut in between. "Isse pehle aap violent ho jaao, I am sorry! She apologised and promised that she will never silence her phone again. As she was about to slip the phone back into her pocket, AJ stopped her.

"Ek minute.. he caught her wrist and took the phone from her. Examining it carefully, he spoke, "This is not that phone!

"Which phone?! Guddan enquired, furrowing her brows in confusion.

"Vo 50,000 wala! He retorted, annoyed at her super-convenient short term memory loss.

And for another few seconds, the only thing Guddan did was stare at Akshat, quizzically. This sort of reaction wasn't boding well with AJ and his anger had almost reached the roof when Guddan's eyes sparkled, in realization.

"Ohhh! Vo wala phone! She asked smiling.

He mock smiled in response, irritation radiating in waves from his eyes. "Haan..vo wala phone! He imitated her, sarcastically.

"Vo toh main agle hi din return kar diya tha, she shrugged.

"What?! He looked at her baffled.

"Mujhe dhang se yaad nhi, but when buying the phone I had asked shopkeeper that if I didn't like the phone, I'll return it. And even though the phone was nice, I still returned it the next day! And paise maine dadi ko de diye the.. Guddan replied innocently.

"Yaad nhi?! Akshat enquired incredulously. She had the nerve to forget the damn mini heart attack she gave him that day by wasting his hard earned money on a phone that she bought to get back at him for ignoring her! How INconvinient!

Akshat shook his head. There was no point getting all riled up over an act that perpetrator had no memory of. It will only do him bad because this woman was a harebrained idiot and will make one out of him too!

"Ye phone kahan se aaya!? He asked, clearly recalling that her phone had broken.

"Aapko bataya toh tha!! Itni jaldi bhool bhi gaye!? Uncle aap na badam khaya karo, varna abhi se bhulne lage ho toh aage jakar Alzheimer's jesi... Guddan's train had just started accelerating when Akshat pulled the emergency brakes.

"Ye phone kahan se aaya!? He repeated his question monotonously.

"Mera phone tut gaya tha so I asked Papa to buy me a new one! Guddan retorted, scrunching her nose at his I-am-mighty look.

"Was there a need to bother your father like that!? You could have just kept that phone! Akshat asked.

"Oh hello uncle! What I ask of my father is none of your concern! Theek hai! Doosri baat, agar aapka vo costly phone rakh leti, toh aap har roz straw laga kar mera khoon chooste and Guddan kisi ka udhaar nhi rakhti. Jab tak mere papa hain, I will make sure never to bother you with my needs and necessities! Guddan retorted, pointing her index finger at him.

This irked Akshat. He caught hold of her finger and leaned his face to her level. " I may not like you, you may not like me but we are husband-wife nevertheless and you are my responsibility, fulfilling your needs is my responsibility so next time make sure to ask me what you want! Unnecessarily pese barbaad karogi toh I'll scold you but kabhi tumhe kisi cheez ki kami nhi hone doonga! He spoke, his eyes ablaze with fury, fury that was directed more at himself than at her.

Guddan, for a second had forgotten that he was lecturing her because for some reason, this lecture didn't feel like one. It felt like he was exercising his authority over her and that sparked a flame of warmth within her. It felt like that time when her papa had caught her working at the caf to pay for her dance classes. He had been absolutely furious. She still remembers what he had told her that day.

"Zinda hai tera baap, mara nhi hai jo tujhe kaam karna pade. Jab tak zinda hoon, teri har zaroorat poori karunga, toh agar agli baar tune aisa kuch kiya, toh samajh lena ki you have no father

Guddan was almost lost in Akshat. As of right now, she was seeing her father's shadow in him.

"Muskura kya rahi ho! Are you getting what I am trying to say!? Akshat asked.

This broke the trance Guddan was in and she pushed him away.

"Pehli baat, Don't try to act like my guardian. Doosri baat, pati toh ho aap mere, par sirf naam ke and it's not something new! Because I know this well enough that I am your wife on papers and you still consider Mrs Antara Akshat Jindal, your life partner and teesri baat, Guddan kisi ka ehsaan nhi leti hai. You say I am your responsibility! Nhi..main aapki majboori hu, aap par sirf ek bojh hu par apne papa ki jaan hu! It is not about money, it is about love...aapke paas meri needs poori karne ke liye paisa toh bahot hai par dil nhi.. Guddan remarked and turning around in attitude, walked away.

Akshat kept standing there. His emotions were on a rise and they certainly weren't pleasant. He was confused and angered at the same time. Guddan was right, what if she asked her father for a phone! No big deal, then why the hell her words had pricked! Why had it irked him to know that she had returned the phone he bought her! He was furious when she had bought a 50k phone but now he was even furious that she had returned it. It irked him to know that she considered him the kind of man who would burden her in his debts and count favours. It angered him to hear that she didn't consider him worth her responsibilities. Why the hell is he feeling like this? He should be relieved to hear her words, after all he had gotten married for Antara's sake and yet, he felt almost worthless because Guddan's words had made it quite clear that he was utterly incapable of looking after her...

"Nhi, Nhi, Nhi...ye maine kya keh diya!! Guddan shouted for the umpteenth time as the cab driver looked in the rear view mirror, cautiously.

"Even though I didn't mind the lecture, even though Maine dadi se promise kiya hai, even though I know that he fulfils my needs without being asked, why the hell did I run my mouth like that??!

It wasn't supposed to come out like that but it did! And what was the thing about namesake pati, patni on papers! She had forever known the truth of the marriage and yet she had spouted the general-knowledge' as if he had betrayed her! He had always been blunt about his ever-increasing love for Antara, then why had it pricked on realising that he could exercise his rights on her as a husband' but she could never!

"Madam...aap theek hain!? The cab driver asked. Guddan looked at the handkerchief forwarded in her direction and confused, looked up into the rear view mirror to see wetness on her face. Surprised, she caressed her fingers against her cheeks.

"Why!? Main ro kyu rhi huu!!Ye bin baat ke aasu or chhati mein ye jalan...Mujhe kya ho raha hai!? Guddan murmured to herself, wiping away the tears.

Have I contracted a disease? Unn AJ uncle ki sangat ka galat asar ho raha hai mujh par? Agar unn uncle ki vajah se dil ka daura padne se main marr var gyi na toh bhutni bankar aaungi unse badla lene!! Guddan pouted and wiping her overflowing eyes, looked out of the window.
