Gudi dwaj is fixed in the terrace, with a kalash over a stick and a silk saree draped around it, it is garlanded with flowers and leaves(I think mango and neem, not sure), and a mala of sugar crystals. Then it is worshipped. Rangoli is drawn aroung the gudi, and in the front door.
That's how I have seen the festival being celebrated, I dont exactly know gudi's significance tho. Any marathis who might enlighten. Tagging the maharashtrians I know here, others can tell.
Yes! And apart from this we also soak tamarind And chana deal prior to the night before Gudipaadwa .. Then jaggery and neem flowers are added to it next day-on the Day of Gudipaadwa... Later we have it as prasad ... It is tend to keep us away from all the diseases over year..
