Six years laterâŠ
An entire class from Saint-Georges School was at a campsite for a whole day. Among them the youngest student was Saavi, a week away from her fifth birthday. The youngest but the most mischievous, she never missed a chance to experience the scariest stunts possible. As a true leader, she always managed to have a few followers for her crazy experiences. This time also there was no exception. With two of her friends, she disappeared in the woods.
Virat was at that same place with two of his mates. He needed a weekend break from all the tensions going on in Chavan Niwas and his career. While he was embracing the nature, he hard people screaming names. Undoubtedly he wasnât spared even during his break and went to see what was the matter. He was informed that three children were missing. He asked one of the teachers to call the police and with his mates went to the woods.
Abhay and Mauli were found safe and sound while Saavi was still missing. One of the three men brought the kids back to the campsite and the other two continued to look for the third one. Virat chose his left and his friend went on the right side. After a few minutes, Virat spotted a huge hole and ran towards it. The little girl was trying her best to climb up back to the surface. She was surprised when Virat came to her rescue.
« How did you land up here ? Did you hurt yourself ? Do you know that everyone is hell worried for you ? », Virat bombarded her with questions.
« Take a deep breath, uncle. I am fine. I just came to explore. », Saavi replied.
Virat looked at her shocked but at the same time amused and then facepalmed. A tiny tadpole was asking him to calm down. His eyes moved to the scratches on her small arm.
« Ok little explorer, we need to go now. Everyone is looking for you and these small wounds need to be treated. », he said.
« Cool ! Saavi the explorer just like Dora the explorer. Sounds nice. », she replied while Virat couldnât stop from smiling. « Itâs ok, my mom is a doctor. She will treat my wound with her magical hands and I will be fine. », she continued.
« How did you fall ? », he asked.
« I didnât actually. I just came down for this. I have a collection of pebble stones and this one looks like the planet Jupiter. Oh my God, what if it is a part of the planet ? How cool it could be. », she showed it to him with a huge smile.
Virat frowned, « Ok miss brainy, itâs time to go. »
He lifted her on his shoulders and climbed back to the top. Back to the campsite, he took care of the little girl. Her sassiness reminded him of his ex wife. He was getting attached to the child even though he didnât want to.
« You will get scolded by your mom. », he said.
« My mom doesnât scold me. She teaches me from whatâs good and whatâs bad. You are a brave man, did your mom teach you to be one ? », she asked him.
« She did but I am a police officer. I have to be brave. », he replied.
« Oh cool. I also want to be a police officer once I am older. », her face lit up.
« You donât want to be a doctor like your mom and have your own magical hands ? », he asked.
« My mom saves people and I need to save the world. », she said pumping her biceps.
Virat laughed thinking what an adorable cheeky girl she was. He looked into space and his mind traveled back to the past.
FLASHBACK:
A month ago everything was fine. His adorable six years old son was like any other normal kid of his age. Lively, respectful, cute. Unlike what he thought, his brotherâs widow raised his son well. She loved him like her own child but there was something that always pissed her off. Not being called « Mom » by the son she considered hers.
« I breastfed him for a year, raised him for six years with love and care but your son can't even call me mom. Everytime he calls me pishi it breaks my heart. It's your fault. If only you had listened to badi mami's request and married me, he would have considered me as his mother. », Pakhi lashed out at Virat.
« Shut up Pakhi. There is only one woman that I love and that's Sai. I will never give that place to anyone else. Vinayak believes you are his mother even if he doesn't call you mom so stop dramatizing things and don't expect something that I can't give you. », he replied.
« Deep down he knows that if we aren't married it's because I am not his mother. That's why he calls me pishi. », she complained.
« He is just a kid, he doesn't even know what marriage means nor what pishi means. », he said.
« Sai is not even in his life yet he is becoming day by day like her. Stubborn and disrespectful like his mother. », she said picking up a doll, « He keeps stitching the doll up. He wants to become a doctor like his mother. », she screamed.
They turned their heads after hearing something dropping and found Vinayak in tears. He was silent but Virat could read the questions in his eyes. From that day everything was changed. His lively boy went into silent mode. The only thing that he had in his mouth was where was his real mother.
END OF FLASHBACK
« Mister Cop, come back to me. », Saavi brought him out of his reverie.
He couldn't stop from smiling. There was something about her that unwantedly he was getting attached to her. He gave her his number in case she needed his help to save the world or if she needed to be rescued again. She liked the idea of saving the world together but rolled her eyes for being indirectly called the troublemaker.
Later that night, Sai entered the house and freed the babysitter. She closed the door and came back to the living room. She crossed her arms and shook her head. Saavi looked around and then both burst out laughing. Sai wanted to raise her daughter strong, independent and full of life. She wanted her to learn from experiences and mistakes. « Next time be careful. », she only warned her.
Sunny joined his three friends and found a smiling Virat who has forgotten to smile since Sai's absence in his life. Things became harder since Vinayak discovered the truth about his mother. The other two explained the reason of his changed mood. He studied his friend for some time. By the description, the little girl sounded like a carbon copy of his ex-wife.
« You shouldn't look for Sai inside someone else when you were the one who threw her out of your life. », Sunny suggested full of grudges in his voice.
Sunny and Sai weren't close but he always believed that she was the perfect life partner for his friend. He put the blame of losing the love of his life and ruining his life with his own hands. Virat didn't have the time to retort that his phone rang. As soon as he picked it up his entire world stopped. Vinayak was missing.
A few hours later, Virat and Sunny reached the Chavan Niwas. Everyone was tensed and the police was there. He feared the worst. His father explained the whole situation. Vinayak must have left the house after being scolded by Pakhi for misbehaving with everyone.
« You passionately wanted that child for yourself and now you can't even handle him. », Virat furiously glared at Pakhi.
« I swear I didn't do anything. I am trying my best with him. », she cried.
« Shut up Pakhi. You are the real problem in everyone's life. », he lashed out.
« Leave it. We have more important things to do. Let's find Vinu. », Sunny intervened.
During the next following twenty four hours there was still no news of Vinayak. Virat, Sunny and Mohit nonstop searched for him. The little boy was found a thousand miles away from Nagpur and transported to the hospital by the locals. Taken care by Dr. Raina, he couldn't make the child talk since he regained his consciousness. He even refused to give his name fearing that he will be found by his father. Dev Raina was one of the best pediatricians of the city by his job and by nature. Kids loved him as he becomes one too in their company. Vinayak was harder to crack. His best friend entered the room wanting to have lunch with him. The kid went numb in shock seeing the lady in front of him. Dr. Raina noticed the changes in his expressions and hoped he would finally say something.
« This is Dr. Sai Joshi. Do you want to tell her what's your name on your own ? », he tried to make him speak.
« What's your name ? », she asked realizing that her friend needed help.
Vinayak kept staring at her. He recognized the lady from the pictures with his father. He recalled her pishi's words. His real mother's name was Sai like Dr. Sai Joshi. There was no doubt in his head. His mother was standing in front of him.
« Ok little boy. I have a lunch date with my bestie, I will be back in a while. Till then take some rest. », Dev said.
« Bye ! », Sai waved her hand.
« Sai maa ! », Vinayak said just before they could walk out of the door.
Sai stopped. His way of calling her maa chilled her to the bone. She turned around and noticed his big eyes full of questions.
