Many reasons:

- she wanted a bahana to go to his room as tea bahana was repetitive.

- wanted to show him that she s a widow and can't wear bright ones for sympathy

- and also what u mentioned , wanted to shift slowly.

I feel when Sai went to return the sarees Pakhi will manipulate her about taking an outside surrogate. She will say known person s good. She already started in today s episode.
