I am telling y'all. I have never been this inspired by a show or a couple, the way I am right now.
This fic was born based on some comments I saw in the daily discussion thread. I hope I can do your imagination proud with my interpretation of how things should go post today's episode.
For timing's sake, this is based after Sai escapes from the locked bedroom.
Also, there will be a second part to this, however, I'm not ready to write that. I'm still upset with Virat.
—
I was always ready to leave at the drop of a hat. And today I don’t see why I need to stay back. Virat sir still wishes he was with Pakhi di, I mean why else would he compare me to her?
Just because I don’t behave the way she does… at least I don’t pretend to maintain a relationship because my ex needs to feel bad!
I’ve had enough.
—
After being locked up in her room purely because she didn’t want to attend a farce of a pooja, Sai realised that Virat sir would never truly respect her nor care for her the way a husband should.
What right he thought he held on her was long diminished. She was her own person and she would succeed in all her goals. There was no need to stay in a house where she would never be wanted.
It didn’t take long to pack her suitcase, nor did it take much time to organise accommodation. Sai was ready to leave, except there was one last thing she had to do.
Remove her mangalsutra.
Looking at herself in the mirror, she took a deep breath. The symbol of her marriage, of the commitment she agreed to uphold… what did it matter? No ever asked a man to wear such a symbol to remember who he was bound to, then why should she need to? The commitment was broken, the deal ruined. Virat si– no, Virat hadn’t ever bothered to truly understand her. So with her gone, he could finally go back to his real love.
Taking off the mangalsutra had been effortless. It took a second to recognise herself without the chain; however, it was also a reminder that she was more than just that symbol.
She was Sai Joshi. Only Sai Joshi.
Dropping the mangalsutra on the dresser, Sai picked up her suitcase and made her way downstairs where she hoped no one would see her.
For once, she was lucky.
Standing at the doorway to the house, Sai took a single moment to remember the house and its occupants.
Thank you for giving me shelter. Thank you for giving me food. The shanti you so missed will now be back, because this jungli mulgi is off to fulfil her destiny. To become the doctor she was meant to be, not an unwanted wife or bahu.
And with a resolute face, she turned away and walked outside of the gates, never to return. Sai Chavan had tried to make it work with her new family, but Sai Joshi was going to make it work for herself.
—
“Sai, where are you? God, this girl will force me to go insane one day!” Virat was fuming; his silly wife had the audacity to ignore his phone calls and not tell him where she had gone!
Annoyed at not having anything go his way, Virat stormed into his bedroom expecting to hear the ‘firecracker’ burst because of how loud he was.
Although there was nothing but silence greeting him.
It was so untypical of Sai to be this quiet, and considering college hours had ended some time ago, there was no reason for her to be anywhere else except in the house.
“Sai… Sai!”
Repeatedly calling her name bore no fruits or the wife. His wife at least.
Because instead of Sai, Patralekha arrived.
“Virat, what happened? You’ve been calling out for Sai for so long, she’s not here. In fact no one has seen her all day… not that I’m complaining, but why are you looking for her?”
Virat closed his eyes for patience, however he knew it was no use.
“Pakh– Patralekha. If you haven’t seen Sai, then why are you answering to her name? Anyway, it’s not important. I got a call from her college and I couldn’t understand what they were saying,” he explained, even though he believed he shouldn’t have to tell Patralekha anything.
Instead of replying however, the woman stayed quiet. For once.
She instead continued watching her first love trying to figure out where his bimbo of a wife was.
It would make her day complete should Sai not return, however she wasn’t counting on it. Her… ‘sister-in-law’ always found some sort of way to appear at the worst times possible.
Whatever Pakhi, just be there for Virat. And pray that Sai never appears again.
—
As it turned out, Patralekha got lucky.
After an arduous week of not finding Sai anywhere, Virat was ecstatic to be receiving mail in her handwriting.
However his joy fell short when he opened the envelope.
“…divorce papers?”
The entire Chavan family erupted into anger. Divorce?! How dare Sai think that it was that easy to drop a relationship, to crush those bonds that they had, well… She had been loved by some of them at least. How dare she disrespect them?!
Virat fell onto a chair, his head in his hands, the papers discarded.
She… Sai… how could she?
He loved her. He had! But she had never believed him. Never believed that he had moved past Patralekha, never thought that he could love her.
You lost that chance Virat. You knew you were taking it too far, you knew that locking her up would break her inside. But you did it, you did it because you were too stubborn to prove her wrong.
Remember what happened after she escaped? Remember how close you came to raising a hand? You saw how she looked at you Virat. You saw… and you did nothing.
So now you have no right to cry. No right to ask for forgiveness. No rights over Sai Cha– Sai Joshi.
Virat realised in that single moment what it actually meant to love someone and lose them at the same time.
It was over.

So that's it for now. Heads up, my written Hindi is not the best, therefore all dialogues are in English.
