He was a person in defense services. They are taught to think about team safety before their own.

That's why KJ was there as a policeman not Sai's father. The shot by jagtap was the unplanned situation. He thought about a team member before his own.

Similarly how virat came in between to save his colleague during that reis magos mission shooting part.

Also consider the example of Vikram Batra. He also died saving a teammate of his own without thinking abt his family back.

Its all drilled into those men. They are dedicated to country before their family.

Yes. It was pure instincts that drove KJ... He was not thinking of anything... Just similar to the story narrated by Ninu before Virat left or Virat's own actions during the mission.

It was probably instinct. As soon as it hit him that he is dying he immediately remembered Sai.
