I think the definition of abuse is not clear to many people.

A abuse can be physical, emotional and even psychological.

But since it is patriarchal society and for that matter girls are always taught to adjust and compromise.

It has now ingrained in the minds of people that it is normal and showing it also is normal.

Children are always taught to respect elders because they are ‘elders’ and never argue with them.

But they don’t teach that respect, love needs to be earned.

It cannot be served in a platter just because someone is born 40-50 years before you were born.

Unless this changes, it will continue to be considered ‘normal’.

I completely agree with a lot of your points. Much of what Virat has done cannot be justified. But, that being said, no human nor relationship is ever perfect. To a certain extent, we are all toxic. What matters is that we grow and learn from our mistakes in attempt to become better.

At the end of the day, Virat is a product of his surroundings. He has grown up surrounded by toxic men and women alike. Most of the elders of his family are of the mindset that husbands are in charge of their wives and that women have no freedoms in life. Even that being considered, he has still grown up to be a better man than his father. Again, that is no excuse for his behavior, but that provides us a background of who he is.

As the show has progressed, we have seen these two sides of Virat at odds with one another, but the kind, supportive man that Sai is falling in love with is slowly coming to the forefront. To me, some of the most powerful moments of the show have been Virat repenting, realizing how badly he has treated Sai. Again, that doesn't excuse what he has done. It seems to me that he truly has grown. Whether or not that is true, time will tell. Especially for the past few weeks, we have seen Virat truly grow from what he used to be. This is no longer the same Virat who kicked Sai out or who grabbed her arm and forbade her to eat.

The comment he made about Sai having to adjust made me sick too. But again, that is the live he has grown up seeing. So can we really blame him for having that viewpoint? Somewhat yes, but it is not so black and white...

Again, I am not trying to defend his wrongdoings. I bashed him every time he did something atrocious. But, I do think that we need to see him as a product of his surroundings, and give him the opportunity to grow..

Be it here where the husband stands like a statue or gets violent & throws the wife out.

Be it Anupama where the Fl is the one slaving up for the family

Shaurya aur Anokhi where the ML just manhandles FL.

These writers make the Fl suffer in order to gain sympathy and trp but are downgrading the society.

The cases of domestic violence has increased so much due to pandemic.

The sad truth is that this is the reality of so many Indian households...not just TV shows... or at least that is what I have seen...

The truth is that this is the result of generations of domestic violence and abuse, be it physical, mental or both...

Of course TV makes it all more dramatic, but we truly have a long way to go even in reality as a culture...

Men who fully respect women and treat them as equals are still the minority...and truth be told, it is not just Indian culture...it is so many cultures alike

Everybody acknowledges that Virat is a product of his environment.

People want to see progression in the character. Here, they show some progression and then drag him back. So it's frustrating. Plus he happens to be an IPS officer.

Or if they is not going to be much progression, then show the repurcussions also - SaiRat relationship breaking down or Sai going away to hostel for her peace of mind or some well-wishers asking Virat asking Virat to move away from CN.

The fact is these people cannot handle heavy subjects. So they should have chewed only as much as they can swallow - should have skipped the Virat's domestic abuse part, Devyani track etc. Also, the Chavans harassing and humiliating behaviour should have been toned down - 1/10th of what the Chavans do would be harassment enough. Or they could be shown to operate slyly - it is not trp race but laziness that is making them show this crap. Then Virat's comment would nit have been this disgusting - here they are openly insulting the girl, call her names, manhandle her, conspiring to kick her out of the household ...so his statement is like ignoring the blatant abuse and injustice happening in his house.

The problem is that the makers are mixing up Rono with Virat. I do think there has been lots of progression in Virat's character and Sairat's relationship and all we can do is hope that it doesn't get destroyed

I believe in Bengali version FL retorts that what about adjustment from his family's side? ...and other things along those lines. But Ghum's dumbf*ck makers don't even want to address the issue, let alone show justice being done. They didn't make Sai utter a single sentence in protest.

I totally agree 😠😡🤬

I have stopped watching my cousin said yesterday update was cute ..but reading the today's update made super duper angry

I don't understand why they don't understand that this is again abuse. Adjustment is always from both sides wish virat was something apart from the forces.i can't imagine a ACP being so insensitive to emo and verbal.abuse

I hate the fact they are trying to normalize a lot of things that we are trying to change around us. Such dialogue makes me feel bitter .

Thanks for the comment ..makes me feel I am not alone in this thinking

I feel It's his upbringing which made his thought process like this..he isn’t flawless those statements proves that..as a human he can have his own flaws and wrong point of views but as a police officer he should be more aware that what is adjustments and nok jhok and what is domestic violence and crime is..i can understand his situation as a son from an orthodox family but can't understand him as a responsible police officer..as a police officer he should study more about what adjustments is and what domestic violence is..and if he wants adjustments he should not forget that adjustments should be done from both sides..its not only sai's responsibility to adjust his family his family also needs to adjust with her as well..if he asking for adjustment he should ask to both parties..

So true .

As a police officer if a girl complaints of domestic violence ..is she going to advice adjust & get beaten up . That's a problematic stuff if police starts doing that.

Of course he has never raised voice for his mom so there is nothing better to expect from him

I can take fiction as fiction but I hate how all the above serials have normalized abuse way too much. But a lot of TRP audiences would relate to it because many of them would have faced this situation in their lives. What the serials could have done differently is addressing this abuse. Out of all these Virat by virtue of his position as a law enforcer turns out to be the worst. But I understand what you are trying to say
