Chapter 114

*It has been just over a month since baby died for those who aren’t too sure of timeline*

“Hey” Maan whispered climbing in bed behind Geet wrapping his arms around her.

Geet glanced over her shoulder offering a weak smile and shifted onto her other side burying her face into the hollow of his neck.

“You okay Geet?” he asked gently rubbing her back. After they’d talked with dadima, Geet had retreated to their room and snuck back into bed. He assumed she was still tired, but she’d been here for the last 3 hours and she wasn’t sleeping at all. She continued to stare out the large windows as if she were in a trance.

She hummed quietly, Maan tightened his arms around her feeling slightly disappointed.

“Have you talked to Amelia or Meera yet?” he asked.

Geet shook her head, she didn’t think she’d be able to just go back to being chummy with her friends so quickly, she was still picking up the pieces of her broken heart.

“How about we both go out for some time? Get some fresh air and familiarise ourselves with the city” he suggested. Geet though reluctant agreed, hiding away in their penthouse will lead her to depression, she needed to gather herself together not just for herself but for her husband.

They had stepped out of their penthouse and paused in the hallway noticing Sanjana and Aditya’s door opening, the couple seemingly arguing.

“Don’t be blaming me, mister!” Sanjana grouched crossing her arms as her boyfriend locked the door behind them.

“She’s a bad influence on you” Aditya countered.

“Hey!” Sanjana scowled. “I could say the same about Samir and you”

“Pookie we’re both better than the both of you put together” Aditya smirked.

“Don’t make me smack the smirk off your face” she deadpanned.

Aditya shook his head and hooked his arm around her small waist and turned towards the elevator, they both smiled noticing their neighbours.

Geet and Maan offered a small smile and stepped inside the elevators followed by Sanjana and Aditya.

“Hold it…” Someone stepped into the elevator. “Thanks”

“Hey Samir” Aditya greeted and looked between Maan and Geet. “This is our new neighbours, Geet and Maan right?”

Maan nodded slowly silently hoping the elevator doors just closed and they’d go straight down.

“This is my friend, Samir. He lives on the other side of your apartment with his wife” Aditya introduced.

“His wife is my best friend” Sanjana piped.

I don’t remember asking anything Maan thought offering a smile.

“Hi, we’d probably see you at dinner tonight then” Samir responded.

“Actually my wife and I…” Maan couldn’t finish when Sanjana chirped.

“We’re here, we’ll see you around. We’re going shopping for dinner” she told them grabbing Aditya and trudged ahead.

Samir chuckled and looked at them almost sympathetically. “You’ll get used to her… and my wife” he told them then walked out.

“I think we should just stay out till midnight” Maan muttered as he led Geet out the elevator.

“Why don’t you both go out for a while?” Dadima looked between Vikrant and Meera.

“We’re fine dadima, I’ve got some lines to learn” Vikrant answered.

“I’ve got some work to catch up on as well” Meera replied.

“You’ve been nearly married a year, why don’t you both go out and spend some time” Dadima suggested.

“Amelia is coming around tonight, I invited Araina and Karan to join us for dinner” Meera looked up from her laptop.

“That’s going to be nice” Dadima smiled faintly. If only Maan and Geet were here too…

She’d talked to both earlier but it wasn’t nearly enough, and with the time difference it was hard to get a hold of them at an appropriate time. She’d be sleeping soon and it was probably lunch hour for them. It’s going to be harder once they both start working.

She decided to send Maan a text requesting he call when he’s free.

Both Maan and Geet hopped onto a bus and headed for the city centre, Maan decided he’d show where his office is as well whilst they’re going to out in the city centre. It’d give them an opportunity to scope around and Geet would know where his office is in case she wanted to drop by. “It looks so busy” Geet commented as she glanced around. “Compared to Deansgate”

Maan agreed and reached down lacing his fingers with hers, Geet looked at him and smiled.

Once they arrived at Piccadilly Gardens, they stepped off the bus and roamed around for a while taking in the large buildings, however there was too much to take in one afternoon.

“Do you want to go to the dinner?” Maan asked as they both received their bagel from the vendor then turned heading down Portland Street in the direction of Maan’s office.

“I don’t know, the woman doesn’t seem like she’s going to let us off easily” Geet chuckled.

“She’d probably drag us out like she does with her boyfriend” Maan responded.

“I wonder what her friend’s like, if she’s like that…” Geet pondered.

“Probably her twin, like those two guys…” Maan paused, his eyes drawing to the large poster plastered against a door they passed. Geet stopped and glanced at what he was staring at.

Maan then turned to Geet. “Do you want to go inside and find out a little more about…”

Geet thought over it for a while then nodded, once Maan starts working she couldn’t bear the thought of being alone in their penthouse doing nothing.

They chucked their wrappers in the bin and climbed the steps.

“Hi, how can I help you?” a young woman chirped on the desk grinning widely.

“I saw the poster outside, we wanted to get some information” Maan inquired.

“Sure, I’m Taz” the woman held out her hand to which Maan shook. “C’mon in” she pressed the buzzer and the doors opened. Maan and Geet stepped inside glancing around, the walls were all painted white, there were plush silver-greyish corner sofas.

“This is the waiting area, usually we have 3 classes in one day. But over the week, only 2 out of the 5 days is for the classes” she informed. “So in total, we have 6 classes, 3 on each day. It’s usually a Monday and a Wednesday but Chef Richards sometimes will want a change. She’s a little unpredictable” she continued walking ahead pushing through large double doors.

Inside, there were 8 kitchen counters in two aisles, 4 on each aisle. By the walls, there were top of the range kitchen accessories, from knives to pans.

The back wall had shelves stacked with ingredients and spices. The kitchen worktops were white gloss granite which seemed expensive. It was if they were in a high-end chef’s kitchen.

“How long are the classes?” Maan glanced over at Taz.

“Depends, are you asking about courses or time?” she chuckled.

“Courses and times” Geet cut in.

“We have beginners, intermediate and advanced courses, if you start from beginners, you can move into the intermediate courses and so on…” she explained. “The classes run for an hour and a half”

“That doesn’t sound very long” Maan commented.

“Believe me, it doesn’t sound long but you learn a lot from Chef Richards. I learned how to cook with her help” she informed. “I couldn’t cook for the life of me, you’ll learn in no time”

“I’m looking for courses for my wife” Maan replied glancing around the kitchen once more.

“Why not yourself?” she questioned curiously.

“Because his hands aren’t made for cooking” Geet informed.

Taz arched her brows and stared at Maan, “And what exactly are your hands made for?”

Maan looked over at his wife who’d bit down on her lower lip hiding her smile and turned back to the woman before him, “I don’t have time”

“We’ve got weekend courses as well” she smiled brightly.

“I’m not interested in cooking” he answered directly.

“Then why should your wife learn? What are you going to do when she falls sick?” she tossed.

Maan frowned in annoyance shaking his head.

“Well? I’m waiting” Taz crossed her arms in front of herself tapping her feet.

“We live in the city centre, so I’m sure there’s places that do warm soups” he responded.

Geet chuckled, Taz rolled her eyes.

“Typical men, how did you find this fine specimen?” she asked Geet. “You should enrol him in our weekend sessions, I made my husband enrol and he cooks when I don’t feel like it” she informed. “Now would you like me to add you on our list?” she asked.

“Actually I think…” Maan was going to tell her he’d look elsewhere.

“Yes please” Geet nodded. “What times are the sessions?”

“I’ll give you an information booklet” Taz told her walking towards the front desk and passed a booklet to Geet. “Why don’t you fill this sheet it and hand it back to me, I’ll enrol you on our weekday course. You could do it on the weekends as well, with your husband” she said it a little louder for Maan to hear who’d continued to stand where he was.

Maan shook his head at Geet who’d glanced over at him lifting her brows.

“How much are the courses? Do you accept cash or card?” he pulled out his wallet.

“Do you want pay weekly or monthly?”

“Monthly” Maan answered.

“And for two people” Geet informed.

“What?” Maan frowned.

“We can take weekend sessions together” she responded.

“I…”

“Great” Taz piped in. “That’d be £340 for the month”

Maan watched as Geet grabbed his wallet paying for the sessions and turned to face him.

“Here you go” she passed his wallet back.

“So I’ve got you both down for two weekend classes, and I’ve got just yourself down for the 2 weekdays” Taz told Geet as she read from the laptop screen. “You can choose what time you wish to do it as well, as there is different times”

“There isn’t a fixed time to come? Like if we choose to come morning sessions, we have to come every morning session”

“No, no there’s flexibility. You can choose to come whichever classes, morning, afternoon and evening” Taz explained. “On weekends it’s Chef James teaching so you’d be learning different techniques and cuisines as well” she smiled brightly.

“Thank you” Geet smiled and looked at Maan who seemed like he was moping. She laced her fingers with his as they walked out of the building. As soon as they stepped out Geet chuckled looking up at Maan who wasn’t pleased at all.

He turned his head to his wife and the annoyance he felt disappeared seeing her smile, he brushed the tip of his finger over the corner of her lips.

Geet blinked staring at her husband, she closed her eyes stepping forward and pressed a kiss to his cheek. Maan slipped his arm around her waist and climbed down the steps.

He hoped that these small changes would heal their broken hearts.

“Have you talked to Geet yet?” Amelia asked Meera.

“She talked to dadima” Meera responded. “She’s… it’s going to take her some time”

Amelia nodded leaning her head against Meera’s shoulder, their eyes drawn to the gravestone of their little angel’s, “I wish she was here, I miss her terribly. I even miss our miserable jeej”

Meera chuckled nodding her head, “They’re going to be here before you know it”

“Here you ladies are…” Vikrant smiled placing down a tray of coffee for them all.

“Has dadima gone to sleep?” Meera asked sitting up and reaching for her coffee.

“Yeah, she’s sleeping” Vikrant answered. “I thought Karan was coming over, where’s Araina?”

“I don’t know, I’ve not spoken to him for a few days” Amelia shrugged. “Araina text me saying she’s tired from this court case she’s working on so she’d gone to sleep early”

“Karan’s probably caught up in work then” he rolled his eyes.

“Hey, do you want to go for a drive or something?” Amelia suggested.

“We could get some dessert” Meera added.

“I’ll drive” Vikrant agreed.

“What about the coffees?” Meera pointed.

“We’ll have coffee outside” Amelia told them, she wanted to enjoy some time with her friends.

“Hang on a second” Samir spoke as he stepped in to the elevator, “I’ve got the ingredients”

….

“Need I remind you, Sanjana asked you” he looked up offering smile when Maan and Geet stepped into the elevator.

….

“I’m going to kill your friend”

….

“Seriously? You’re making me cook and you’re just going to make dessert. What sort of deal is this?” he asked.

….

“Don’t be saying that!”

….

“You know, Sanjana said she finds me handsome. I’ll go and marry her”

….

“What?”

….

“You’re not going to stay over at his!”

….

“I don’t care if he’s your cousin and he’s married. I hate him”

….

“Alright! For goodness sake! You’ve got me riled up and jealous”

….

“I don’t know why I even bother arguing with you” he huffed.

….

“Hmm… I love you too” he cut the call and looked up between Maan and Geet. “I’ve got a crazy wife” he told them.

As they stepped out of the elevator, Aditya opened his front door.

“I’m coming over to yours” he told Samir.

“I’ve just had my eccentric down my throat, I so hate Sanju right now”

“I hate her too” Aditya agreed with him.

“I heard that” she pulled open the door wider scowling at Samir and Aditya.

“Good, you were meant to” Samir scowled.

“You’re going down in my hot meter” she informed.

“I’m right here” Aditya frowned.

Whilst they continued to argue amongst each other, Maan and Geet snuck into their apartment.

“I think we should look for another property” Maan shook his head. “They’re mental cases”

“They’re funny” Geet chuckled. “Dinner should be fun”

“I almost forgot about that” Maan murmured. “And they’re still arguing” he gestured to the door as he could hear the muffled arguments that were taking place outside their door.

“If it’s like this now, imagine dinner…” Geet commented.
