Chapter 113
A soft cry fills the room, Geet’s heartbeat paces and she blinks as she turns her head to Maan who’s grinning widely. A brief moment later, her arms are filled. She’s cradling their baby.
"Maan… our baby" she whispers grinning widely and presses her lips against her daughter’s forehead. "We’ve got our baby"
Geet jerks upright glancing around the room, there is no baby here. She gasps when she feels a hand reach out and touch her elbow. Looking over her shoulder, she glances down at Maan who’s staring at her concerned.
"What’s wrong?"
Geet swallowed thickly shaking her head, she slinks down onto her back and turns towards him snuggling into his arms. They’d arrived here in Manchester, UK. Maan had an office located in the centre of Piccadilly Gardens where he’d be able to work from and he’d opted buy them a penthouse just off Deansgate. It was a 2 bedroom penthouse including an home office, en-suite bathrooms in both bedrooms, a large living room, a kitchen and a balcony including a rooftop garden.
When they step out onto the balcony they had the river views including the Calatrava bridge which was a great sight to look at. There was a 24 hour concierge and valet parking.
The house was refurbished recently however it wasn’t their home, yet.
"Speak to me" Maan whispers pressing his lips to her cheek.
"I’m tired" she murmured squeezing her eyes closed and pressing her face into the hollow of his neck. Maan knew then that Geet wasn’t ready to speak. He figured she’d seen another dream of hers, he’d woken up many nights feeling her jolt up and breathing heavily but she avoided telling him what she might’ve seen. He wondered whether she’d seen their daughter in her sleep as he had many times.
"Trust me?" he whispered.
Geet felt her eyes sting as she heard his whisper, she tightened her arms around him and nodded slowly. "With all my heart" she murmured.
Maan sighed heavily pressing a kiss to her cheek, he was going to give her space and time. He had her trust and her love for sure.
Dadima stared at the frame she held in her hands, she smiled faintly and tears sprung to her eyes as she admired her family. It was of Geet and Maan’s anniversary. Maan had his arms around her and Geet, Vikrant stood with his arms around Meera and Amelia with Karan holding his mother and sister. She squeezed her eyes closed pressing the frame close to herself as she mourned for her grandson and granddaughter. The life of this family weren’t here, it seems as if the whole mansion is empty. Vikrant shifted back with Meera into the mansion which she glad about, she wouldn’t have probably been able to look forward to waking up to an empty mansion. Though she appreciated that Vikrant and Meera shifted to the mansion, she couldn’t help longing for Maan and Geet. They’d both engraved themselves in her heart, especially Maan.
"Dadima…" Meera knocked and entered slowly.
Dadima sniffed swiping her wet cheeks and looked at Meera, trying for a brave face. But she felt herself cracking down.
"I brought you some ice cream" Meera brought the bowl she held behind her back in front of her. "Geet always told me, whenever you were upset Maan bhai plied you with double chocolate chip ice cream" she told her teasingly.
Dadima weakly laughed and patted Meera’s cheek appreciating her attempts at comforting her.
"But you know, aap ke teeth sensitive haina isi liye I will eat on your behalf" Meera winked grabbing the spoon.
"Itne bhi umar nahi huye mujhe" dadima answered placing the frame down and held out her hands. Meera chuckled and handed over the bowl.
"Once…" Dadima swirled her spoon around in the bowl smiling faintly. "Maan made me very angry. I stopped talking to him for the full day, he tried everything. He apologised, he made me a handmade sorry card. It was after dinner, he came to me when I was sitting by the pool bringing me a full bucket of this ice cream" she smiled and looked at Meera.
"You had the full bucket?" Meera gaped at her.
"Nahi, nahi" she chuckled shaking her head. "I shared the bucket with Maan, we ate it with wafers. Vikrant found out and he stopped talking to us both"
"Doesn’t surprise me that big baby would do that" Meera laughed.
"I heard that" Vikrant frowned entering the room. He dropped on the bed lying down on his back with his hands propped behind his head. "Where’s my bowl Meera?"
"Excuse me, what do you think I am? Go get it yourself" Meera answered.
"You should be a good wife Meers" Vikrant responded.
"Why, you…"
"Bas bas…" Dadima held her hand up. "Dono shuru mat ho jao" she looked between them both. "Thank you" she mumbled.
"Dadima, you don’t need to thank us" Vikrant sat up sliding his arms around dadima’s shoulders. "Bhai and bhabhi are going to be back soon, you’ll see" he muttered.
Dadima nodded hoping they returned quickly.
"Anyway, I’ll be sleeping here today with you dadima" Meera informed.
"And I’ll sleep on the sofa bed" Vikrant added.
"Bete, I’m… I’m going to be okay" she told them both. Since Vikrant and Meera had gotten married, they’d have unconventional twists from Maan’s marriage being exposed which ruined their first day to this tragedy.
"We’re staying here tonight" Vikrant told her kissing her cheek. "You better start slurping the ice cream dadima, it’s melting" he pointed. "I could finish it for you"
"I can have it" she responded and took a big spoonful making Vikrant and Meera chuckle.
The atmosphere had lightened but the emptiness and longing within their hearts remained.
Geet smelled burning as she stepped out of the bedroom, all showered and dressed. She followed the smell to the kitchen and looked surprised.
"Maan…" she mumbled confused.
"I made some toast" he told her. She looked at the plate and broke out giggling.
"It’s burnt" she pointed.
"This toaster settings is all different from ours…" he answered. "At least I can say, I tried" he laughed placing the plate down. He wrapped his arms around Geet when she felt her pause and tears glistened in her eyes.
"I’m sorry I burnt this toast" he mumbled.
Geet snickered burying her face into his chest as he attempted to lighten the atmosphere.
She tightened her arms around him and tilted her head back looking up at him. "Have you called dadima?"
"I tried last night when we arrived but I guess they’d gone to bed and did try again twice this morning. I’ve sent Vikrant a text to call me when he’s free" he answered.
Geet nodded pressing her head to his chest again. "Are you going to your work place?"
"I won’t be going into work for a week until we’ve settled here" he responded.
Geet nodded feeling relieved, she didn’t want to be left alone in their new penthouse so soon.
They both jerked when they heard knocks on their front door, Maan released Geet and walked over to the front door and opened it slightly.
"Hi we’re your neighbours" A couple introduced.
Geet walked over, Maan pulled the door wider so Geet could see their new neighbours.
"My names Aditya Kapoor and this is my girlfriend Sanjana" the guy introduced.
Maan frowned and looked between them both. The man and his girlfriend so did not seem to be matched, the man before him had on a suit whereas his girlfriend donned a dungarees with trainers, paint splattered on various places on her clothes including her palms.
"We’re still waiting" Aditya laughed.
"Maan Khurana and this is my wife, Geet" Maan responded placing his hand on the small of Geet’s back. Geet offered a small smile though looked equally confused as her husband.
"Great! Welcome" Sanjana grinned. "Dinners on us, we live in no. 38" she pointed to the door. "8pm, sharp okay?"
"Actually, we’ve just arrived so we’re just going to…"
"Believe me, you wouldn’t want to say no to my pookie bear" Aditya cut in. "She grills a great mean steak and she wouldn’t let you say no" he added.
"We’ll see you at 8 then" Sanjana clapped and dragged Aditya with her returning to the apartment.
Maan closed the door and looked at Geet.
"I’m going to kill Aditya" Maan grated pulling his phone out.
Geet frowned glancing at the door.
"Not this one, Delhi Aditya for not doing extensive checking. We’ve got weirdos as neighbours" he murmured shaking his head.
Geet smiled faintly, "They’ll probably not invite us again once they get to know us"
Maan glanced at his phone as a text came, he read Vikrant’s text stating he was free now and with dadima. Maan called them immediately walking into the living room with Geet and settled on the sofa.
"Hello" Dadima’s voice came, Maan smiled.
"Dadima…" he muttered, his eyes burned as he listened to her voice. "How are you?"
"I’m fine, did you both reach okay?" she asked.
"Yeah, we’ve arrived safely" he answered, Geet leaned against Maan’s chest resting her head on his shoulder and listened as dadima and Maan conversed. She could feel the conflicting emotions her husband was going through, she knew he was hurt with having to go so far from dadima.
Maan passed over the phone to Geet once he’d finished.
"Geet, kaise ho bete?" Dadima asked.
"Main teek ho dadima" she responded softly, "aap kaise hai?"
"I’m feeling much better now that I’m talking to you both" dadima answered.
"I’m sorry dadima" Geet apologised, "mere waje se…"
"Don’t ever say sorry Geet bete" Dadima intervened. "When you’re both settled, I’m coming. Maine Maan ko bata diya hai, jald hi main wahan aaoongi tum dono ke paas"
"Ji… Dadima, you might like our new neighbours" Geet chuckled and told dadima about their new neighbours. Dadima laughed as she listened to Geet telling her about their new neighbours.
"Maan ko, Amelia version 2 mil gaya hai wahan" Dadima laughed. "Amelia ke saat saat, uske male version bhi"
"It’s not funny at all" Maan shook his head having heard dadima. Geet giggled snuggling closer curling her feet beneath her as she continued speaking to dadima.
Maan wished the small smile on his wife’s face remained but he knew when there isn’t distractions their mind instantly goes back to their daughter. He lowered his head pressing a kiss to her forehead and smiled faintly when she glanced at him questioningly.
He shook his head and brought her closer to him, Geet rested her head on his chest as she continued to converse with dadima.
