Chapter 110

Geet jerked up awake glancing around their room for a glimpse of her daughter but her daughter wasn't here. She blinked swallowing thickly and looked around for Maan.

As he wasn't here she stepped off their bed and walked out of their room, she paused outside the nursery noting the door slightly ajar.

Geet contemplated within whether she should step into the nursery, it was filled with memories of her daughter, she turned to leave when she heard a faint noise.

"Maan…" she mumbled seeing her husband lain on the sofa clutching their daughter’s blanket. Tears stung her eyes seeing Maan in such a state, she hadn't seen her husband so defeated, so broken-hearted. The daughter they were looking forward to was now a memory, how do they get her back? Can someone get over such a loss? Their dreams lingered in the depths of their hearts like shadows, and they didn’t have one chance to save it.

She slowly walked towards the sofa, tears blinding her vision as she noted the dried tear marks on his face, she brushed her fingers across his cheek gently.

Maan stiffened for a moment and snapped open his eyes, he sat up instantly noticing it was Geet before him.

"Geet… when did you wake up?"

"Just a bit ago" she murmured letting him pull her onto his lap, she rested her head on his chest tightening her arms around his neck. "You weren’t in our room"

"Sorry" he pressed his lips against her temple.

Geet nodded numbly, she touched the blanket pulling it close to her, her fingers brushing over the stitched on words. "Why didn’t we get a chance with her?" she turned to Maan.

Maan sighed tightening his arms around Geet unable to answer her question.

"I held here for nearly 9 months and I only got to hold her for a bit" she whispered placing a hand on her stomach. "Remember she didn’t let me sleep for 3 hours"

"Because she made you crave for guava" Maan chuckled painfully, Geet nodded brushing the tear that slipped from the corner of his eye.

"And she kicked at each name suggestion" Maan murmured trying to stifle his cry. "Humare bacche ko ek bhi mauka hi nahi mila…" he broke out pressing his face into the hollow of her neck, Geet tightened her arms around him crying with him. They held onto each other as a support for one another and bared their broken hearts.

"What sort of world is this? Those who don’t deserve to be here are still living and those that deserve one chance aren’t here?" Amelia looked at Meera.

"Bete whatever is written in our destiny, even if we tried to change it we wouldn’t be able to" Dadima sighed heavily.

"But dadima… why was a baby written in Geet’s destiny if the baby wasn’t even supposed to be here?" Amelia whispered.

"There must be something greater written for them, whatever happens always happens for the best" Meera answered this time.

"I want to see Geet" Amelia told them.

"She needs space" Meera reached out taking Amelia’s hand into hers and squeezed reassuringly. "She’s just lost her baby"

"She needs friends and us all…" Amelia shook her head.

"And we’re going to be here for her" Dadima responded. "But for now Geet and Maan need space to register this. Losing a baby is one of the most heart-breaking incidents that could ever happen to anyone"

Amelia sniffed wiping her tear and slowly nodded reluctantly. It’d been a week now since Geet returned home, she’d avoided coming here knowing that Maan and Geet both required some space from everything. It didn’t help that neither of them were ready to see anyone yet.

Maan had even asked everyone that they be left alone, dadima however ensured their food were taken up to their rooms.

During the entire week, all Geet and Maan could do was lean on each other. Their pain never once numbed, wherever they turned, they saw something linked to their daughter.

Since the other night, they’d been spending time in the nursery recalling the memories they both created with their daughter.

Maan wanted to be there for his wife, he’d promised dadima he’d help Geet overcome this but he couldn’t be strong enough for her. He couldn’t remain strong as she cried beside him, seeing her heart-broken and completely devastated broke him even more.

However his wife seemed to be there for him, she held onto him and let him lean onto her. She wrapped herself around him and they’d hold onto each other and silently cry.

They both listened to one another when they wanted to speak about their daughter as if she were here. Some may say it’s unhealthy of them spending time like this and others may say this is a great healer; each person deals with loss of a loved one differently. This was Maan and Geet’s way of getting through the day.

Also during the week, Karan and Vikrant arranged the burial. It pained them each time they discussed something regarding the burial, from arranging the coffin to the gravestone.

Dadima decided they were going to bury her grandchild in the back garden where Maan and Geet would have easy access to it and a beautiful flowerbed will be near the grave.

"Dadima… aap…" Maan looked at her as she stepped into the room.

"Where’s Geet?" Dadima glanced around the room.

"Shower" he answered and sat down on the sofa.

"Today is…"

"Baby’s funeral…" Maan whispered. "We’re coming down"

Dadima nodded. "If you can, please try staying downstairs. You might feel a little better with everyone around" she suggested.

"I’ll see dadima" he mumbled reluctantly, he still didn’t want to see anyone. He wanted space from everything. He just wanted to close his eyes and be back at the hospital where Geet is giving birth once again, only this time their daughter cries, she opens her tiny eyes and looks into the eyes of her parents.

"Have you thought more about…maybe shifting for a while?" dadima questioned.

"I’ll be discussing it with Geet" he replied to which she nodded hating how his answers were shortened with her. He’d always had a distance way of speaking with others, but never with her. However, today the tone of his voice said different.

"If you need anything at all, let me know" she patted his cheek and pressed a kiss to his forehead. "I miss my old Maan…" she walked out the room.

Maan closed his eyes wishing he could turn back time for his dadima and give her the grandson she wants but he couldn’t.

He was helpless and he couldn’t do anything to lessen the pain of both the most important women in his life. Since his mother had left him, he’d never accepted defeat, he continued to work hard, fight harder to get where he is now until he succeeded.

He didn’t know what could he possibly do to get them all through this, all he required was one sign, just one to show him the path he should take.

As he turned to face Geet as she walked out of the bathroom, his phone started ringing.

He wondered whether the person on the other end will give him an answer to his current solution.
