Chapter 6
The living room was drenched into silence, Rana; a rather built man suited suavely in black continued in a silent conversation with Geet. Maya, his girlfriend took to the furthest seat near the window busy in a magazine and Maan, well he sat at the opposite end of the coffee table re-evaluating his decision. Though at heart it felt right, but now with menacing looks and cross-firing he was regretting the decision.
'You do understand by signing this form you will have no equity in Geets property irrespective of the Civil partnership' Rana elaborated pushing forward another document and Maan signed very much aware of Rana's criticising gaze. Geet however lay a hand over her belly with a nervous smile, a smile maybe that was true to herself. She only hoped she could claim and fight a case against Dev, the proceedings of which were already discussed with her in front of Maan.
'If you don't mind me asking, what happened to the girlfriend?' Rana asked looking at Geet and for the first time Maya was interested too. Of course she knew of Geet's dilemma and truth be told, she was probably an inkling happy with the situation.
'We broke off' came the gruff response, Maan had been slightly peeved with the friend cum Lawyer cum interrogator. To say he was intruding would be an understatement.
'Why?'
'ADEEL' came the reprimand from Geet moving over towards Maan, as if trying to state her stance by physically shifting towards Maan's side. Maya had then immediately ran towards Rana and sat beside, not at all shocking Geet and Rana however Maan threw a confused look her way, he could hear Sameera's not so subtle 'blimey', or the occasional 'go to hell' but what caught his attention at that moment was 'OMG she's having her fits' screaming laugh. Geet had strictly gotten up with his help and then rushed towards the half open door. What followed was a hush-hush talk but time again 'Mrs Possessive' shot like a bullet with Maya squirming in her seat shouting her own reply 'Desperado', with Rana running a smoothing hand over hers and telling her to ignore Sameera's rant for it was old. For someone like Maan, it was new hence shockingly funny seeing how adults similar to his age behaved. However he held himself from laughing, as soon enough they heard someone stomping upstairs quite upset, followed by the phone ringing and Geet walking back in simultaneously.
'Sam would get that' Geet ignored the ringing phone and shuck out a wavy smile at both Rana and Maya before looking at Maan with a glint, something which told him of her desperation to burst into laughter however keeping it together much like him. So they both sat looking to the ground as Maya rested her head against Rana's shoulder in an attempt to seize her raging fits.
'Has the mad bull gone to take her pills?' Maya dished out after a few minutes to which Geet looked at Rana in anger who immediately turned to Maan, readdressing the girlfriend issue.
'She cheated on me' he answered as if unbothered, but against Geet's caring hands it was a little difficult. She was mindful of not looking at him, but her warm thump resting on the back of his hand somehow released an emotion; maybe of betrayal. Both were cheated upon, maybe their fate was similar in many aspects?
'Rana it doesn't make no difference, I mean this arrangement is for a few months. After all we are together just on paper' Geet jumped in when Rana gave no sign of quitting his questions, yes she understood he had good intension but the last thing she needed was Maan to run off especially now after he was so close to helping.
'Fine' Rana seized holding up his hands before directing the both of them towards the last signature box on the final document
'I'll sort out the papers and pass them over to be certified. In the next 5-7 working days, you should hear something' he advised looking between the two and then got up to leave. Maya had immediately held onto him after Geet's friendly hug, yes she was careful enough not to push her but still fast enough to waver Geet's movement to whom Maan immediately held onto, securing his hands around her shoulder earning him a 'thank you' with a small smile from her.
'I think we should leave' Maya had injected quickly enough so Rana couldn't blast her for the reckless behaviour or Geet run on a speech on how to behave around a pregnant lady, she was already frequented to the words.
'Sam she's gone' Geet shouted once the front door was closed, she then asked Maan to join them for dinner to which he rejected however before she could pester Sam had already ran down and started her 'oh baby daddy you have to' persuasion; ultimately forcing him to awkwardly agree.
'So where her fits bad today?' Sam asked sprinkling an extra dose of salt over her pasta, all three were seated around the kitchen table. Geet had tried arranging the table but gave up seeing Sam's sugary ways of pleasing Maan: the slow speech or the careful hip movement just shouted for Geet's intervention. So instead, she quickly plated three plates and asked for Maan to start eating to which he complied. Geet had carefully made sure to sit between Sam and Maan around the four seated table.
'Gosh I think she's getting more possessive by the day' Geet answered finally finding relief between Sam's weird advancement and Maan's obstinate silence.
'I don't know why your stupid cousin dumped me for her?' she continued in mock however Geet very well knew of Sam's displeasure, it was then Maan looked up in interest. Geet hadn't introduced Rana as a cousin brother however now all the questioning made sense. The brother in him understood Rana's reactiveness.
'And she calls me desperado, has she met her herself. From where do I look desperate?' she asked getting up and looking down at her leather pants and white scooped-neck vest, yes she called for attention; maybe some desperate attention but Geet nor Maan had the guts to admit that.
'Ok maybe I'm a little desperate' she winked tittering at Maan who coughed up a bit and Geet couldn't help but laugh as Sam joined a few minutes later. This was all done and dusted, an all seen territory for the two girls but Maan was minutely scared, but Geet's jarring laughter held him speechless and for the first time that day he felt peace seeing her radiating happy face. Throughout dinner, Sam continued of Mrs Possessive and Mr Heavy Nose, and Geet very diligently filled Maan in making sense of the nicknames Sam gave. Adeel Rana was Geet's first cousin from her mother's side. He is a middle built man, with a height of 5.11. On the whole, had huge appeal being good-looking however his slightly on the larger side of nose reduced him to Mr Heavy Nose, of course his profession and general nosiness had something to do with it too. Maya, a business law graduate went from being his secretary to a girlfriend. The two had dated for nearly 2 years, obviously making Sameera all the more bitter since she and Rana dated for 3 months; even if that. Geet had single-handedly persuaded Rana to date Sam who was head-over-heels in love back then, when that love turned to fan-girling Rana called in quits; an act both the girls still held against him especially after meeting Maya; who wasn't just as crazy as Sameera but even worse in most aspects.
As evening commenced, Maan wondered how Rana bared Sam, even if the courtship was brief but even more confused how a level-headed man ends up with Maya and Sam alike. Sam had colourfully sang praises not only of her ex but his new girlfriend too; who was not only tight-fisted but according to her also psychologically challenged, and apparently the lying lawyer deserved such an insecure creature for leaving a beauty like herself. Geet had giggled but didn't make an attempt to side with her cousin brother and instead sided with her friend when questioned in bemusement. However when Sam got a little too crude, she had intervened after all Rana wasn't just a brother but a friend, a friend who'll shift the world to one side if need be for Geet even if he dated Maya against her wish. In the whole thing Maan forget that he was mingling with strangers and that; he himself was suffering from the wreckage of a two year relationship.
'Ok I think I should get off' Maan finally ended the night and Geet had immediately started with her thank you speech once again directing him to the door from the kitchen they sat in. Sam walked behind them silently to the door as Geet wrote her number and placed it into Maan's palm asking him not to hesitate to ask for a favour, she shall pleasingly return it with upmost honesty.
'See you later Geet, annnd Sam' he smiled careful enough not to edge the mad girl onto himself but her coy look almost chocked his heart, she had then pulled him in from the cold night and stood against the red closing door much like how she did when he came to their door in the afternoon. Maan looked at Geet who looked at him before shifting forward to a stubborn looking Sam, she only wished it wasn't one of her friends 'won't let you go' attempts. But the stealing glances towards her told otherwise.
'Erm Geet I...I kinda told Rano aunty about Maan and now she wants to visit' she finished as Geet fell back in shock and Maan rushed a hand for support. Geet's shallow breathing and Sam's quiet avatar spoke of the disaster that awaits. Maybe helping against the minds decision wasn't the right way of doing things?
Note: Sanj sweets i tried describing Rana lol but maybe not like you wanted, i told you i cant describe humans. I'll be like Mr Bean describing a human with orange nose 😆 PS no PM since you are already here lol
