'The becoming of a Nation'
Putting feminism to aside, today I speak of evolution; the breakage from stereotype. Gone are the days, when woman were thought to be vulnerable and feeble, if he walks through fire then she dances on ice, if he wrestles a tiger then she's battling through snake pits, if he's winning then she's no more behind. Today and maybe even yesterday, or the countless days before that, she has been fighting with him, along with him to make her mark. And she has made her mark. She is a doctor, a lawyer, a publicist, a leader and anything she desires.
Yet I wonder when she will truly win, when would she be free, when would he stop abusing her? Noura in Sudan, Afisa in India, Kate in United Kingdom, Stella in New York these are not mere names but the victims of so many abusers'. Who are no less than demons in disguise?
Today lets unit, not as he and she but as human beings.
Noura shouldn't be held down by several males and be watched with gawk-eyes as her husband rapes her.
Afisa shouldn't be gang-raped by men old enough to be her father and grandfather.
Kate should be safe at any point in the day and dress as she pleases.
Stella should freely be allowed to jog and come home safe.
While Afisa, Kate and Stella haven't made it alive, Noura however killed her husband. She has knifed her abuser. What you and I know as self-defence, however many see as defiance, an act of horror? Was she wrong to protect herself? Was she wrong to fight for her right? I believe NO, she was not wrong and there I ask you to fight for her freedom and say a UNITED NO to marital rape. SAY NO TO RAPE. PERIOD. Please join us at the march of protest and set her free from prison, free from life sentence and free to live.
Let's unite for a noble cause, let's be proud humans and cohabitants of this changing world.
Let's bring change!

Maan read the paper for the third time and felt proud for the first time to be reading such articles. Today he wasn't forced to read, to make notes nor to set a date in his calendar readying for the march to set Noura free. Today it wasn't a fight between male and female, today was here to bring about a change! Today he wasn't just a man, but a human first and for that he was ever so grateful.
'Dadi thank you' he called a little shaken by the effects and all she did was whisper back 'welcome Maan' with watery smile.
'Baby I love you' he text his little writer and she immediately rang back talking about the cause, and then sputtered into her daily activity until everyone and anything become a matter, forcing Maan to eventually breath out 'why do woman talk so much?'
'Maan' she screamed as he laughed ending the call, for he knew she would break into a tirade of objective rants glorying herself as a feminist and himself as anti-feminist.
On the other side, she smiled with wet eyes seeing his text 'For all the things I love about you, but do you not think you take this feminism thing a bit too far. I am as much of a feminist as you but I won't fight for every little thing. I choose my battle, and today's article is what I choose to fight for; the safety of women wouldn't be questionable but rather should be protected and granted'.
The End
