Hello readers,

Thank you all for the warm reponse for the Intro, CS and banner.

Welcome to the very first part of the FF. 🤗

Before we begin yet another journey with our favorite couple Maaneet, let me say a few things first of all :
1)This is an independent FF and has no links to the previous FF "Myth : A Walk into the past"

2) This is a very slow paced FF at least for the first few parts. It isn't a Maan meets Geet and falls in love Mahiii story. Not at least for the first few parts that I have planned 😆
For a story that has a backdrop of time to it, requires a certain build up. So it will be a slow and steady process. But I do promise to be regular. Please be patient with me 😳

3) Although there are no definite movie plot which the FF is based upon, chances are I might add some touch here and there from movies if I feel like it 😳
4) All the historical events, clans, places or practices mentioned in this FF are merely elements of fiction for the sake of the story and is not based on any real life incidents. If any such thing is found, then it must be purely coincidental!

Here we go...

PART 1

"Time flies over us but leaves its shadows behind us"
-Nathaniel Hawthorne

The light of the day was fading away and the lanes started to twinkle with the street lights on. The busy New York city was buzzing as always. Everyone had a dream in this city, some lost in the hustle, some too busy running after it. Everybody was racing against time one way or the other. But there was one young man in this city who came here just for his passion. His life had one purpose and he knew it. Defying everyone else's dreams for him, he came here to seek his destiny. Twenty five years ago, when Maan Singh Khurana was born everyone just assumed that he would take over their family construction business when he came of age. No one ever asked him what his passion was. No one ever asked him what he would love to study. So when his father sent him to the US to study Architectural design course, Maan enrolled himself at the International Culinary School in NYC and got a bachelor degree in Culinary science. His dad had been furious when he found out and cut down his resources. But Maan worked hard and studied harder. He was placed as a trainee under a famous sous chef, Steven Johnson, in one of the popular diners in the city. He juggled between his masters in Food Business Management and his evening job. Anyone else would have been exhausted because of the things they had to go through in their professional as well as personal front but not Maan. He was a man with simple wishes and enjoyed the little pleasures of life and of course he was in love. After being through every hell, the one thing he looked forward to was the time he got to spend with his girlfirend. He met this Indian woman at a hospital after he burnt his hand in a small kitchen accident. She was the one who treated him. He asked her out just as he got out of the hospital and they just clicked. It's been three years and they are going on strong. Maan never bothered her with his family troubles for she was the sunshine to his otherwise mundane life.

Maan walked in a haste carrying his bag of knives and a shopping bag in his hand to his apartment. He didn't have to work for the night. So he had asked her to come and dine with him. For someone who worked in a restaurant all the time, his idea of a date never included a fancy restaurant or food in general but tonight was a special occasion. He had a simple recipe, a black bean soup with crispy tortillas, Methi parathas with pudina chutney since his lady love missed Indian food and a Pistachio flavored Semolina cake which he really hoped she enjoyed.

Maan took off his apron and was getting changed while his cake was in the oven. Just out of shower his long wet hair fell on his forehead, the grey sweat-shirt and the white track pants made him any girl's dream man. A smile crept his lips as he looked at the ring in his hand. Yes, he was ready for this. Not that he wanted to rush into a marriage, but he felt ready to take this relationship further. His oven dinged and he came out of his thoughts.
The candles were lit, the table was set and just as Maan sat relaxing on his couch his door bell rang. He rushed to meet the love of his life.

As the door opened he found the object of his affection standing at the door with tired eyes and a sweet smile. She was beautiful, he knew it. Her dark kohl laded eyes had a mysterious aura, her jet black hair complemented them. Her cheek bones were sharp like a model and her smile divine.

Maan's eyes twinkled as he held her hand, "Welcome home Sameera.."
He kissed on her lips and she stepped inside.

***************************************

Back in India, the clouds suddenly decided to burst and it was pouring outside.
The centralised AC operator must be the only person in Delhi who didn't realise that, thought Geet.
"So ladies and gentlemen this is what our conclusions show, "Whatever we have today is based on the assumption that time is a constant. It cannot be changed. Our theory defies this. We are reworking every theory known to man. In quantum entanglement, particles can correlate their existence. Shedding their existing identities they correlate their properties. Now normally our scientist assume that this is about spanning a space, not time."

Geet looked at the wise looking professor and the passion with which he described this complex theory. Oddly she had no idea what she was doing there. She was stifling a yawn when she heard the excited of voice of her best friend, Nain Tara.
Geet saw the twinkle in her eyes as she raised a question, "Does that mean we can change the past?"
The professor now focused his tired eyes on them. He smiled in a cautious way and replied in a rather low yet assertive voice, "We can't say that for now,Miss. Yes correlation in time means one particle can travel back in time. Scientists believe correlation can occur in space, linking far away locations, the one which Albert Einstein described as a "spooky action at a distance". Well what we formulate can be described as "spooky action in an alternate time". Events of the present can be correlated to the events of past and vice versa. Certain events can be correlated to the point where you can't tell the difference between which is what. One can be the cause of the other or the other way. To know that you need to know which happened first."

Geet heard herself say, "Like a paradox?"
The professor's eyes now brightened up, "Yes"
Geet "So you can change the past, right?"
Nain Tara looked at the professor and Geet alternatively as if watching a tennis match. She was pleasantly surprised to know that Geet was listening at all given the fact that she practically had to drag Geet along with her.
The professor's cold vocie shook NT, "The past is like a writing on the stone. It cannot be undone. What we have here can be an anomaly. But anomalies cannot alter the main event."

Geet laughed much to the shock of the audience and most of all NT and the professor himself, "You mean to say you did all this work and problems just to find a glitch? What's the point if you can't change the horrible events of the past?"
She kept on laughing even though Nain Tara tried to stop her ignoring the icy cold glares of the professor.

They were in the cafeteria holding their cups of hot brewing coffee and tangy samosas. Geet still was trying hard to hold her laughter but NT's angry glare kept her in check.

NT looked at her friend. If not for her innocent almond eyes and the baby like smile with that rosy cheeks and that adorable pout begging her to talk to her, she would have stormed out.

Geet, "uffo..I said sorry na Tara and see I bought your favorite snack and coffee too. Ab to maan jao.."
NT sighed, "You know Professor Raza is a genius in this field. And you just got me kicked out of his seminars for life. He would never let us in"

The mention of the professor set her off and NT rolled her eyes in frustration as she heard her friend's pearls of laughter.
Geet, "That one is your fault. If not for you, I would never have come for this whimsical lecture. Oh dear, you should thank me. I saved you."
NT wondered. The nerve of that girl, "Saved me?"
Geet, "You know he was wasting your time. There is no such thing as time travel. We all know that."
NT " You don't know that.."
"Pff..", socffed Geet. "I know you love sci-fi but babe, we are doctors. We see facts and we believe them. That is our job"
NT "Which is exactly we should wonder if this is all that is to life. Look at the ways our brain works. Don't you ever wonder?"

Geet finished her coffee and was playing with her samosa. The weather was now better. The rain gone, the roads were wet and had that natural aroma. The traffic might be worse but the wind was really cool now.
She shivered as the air passed through her thin Denim T-shirt. Did she wonder? She wasn't a person who marveled at the unknowns. She wanted to know things since childhood. Her eldest bhai Rana had always taught her, observe, explore, experiment and find things. She looked at NT's expectant eyes and didn't want to disappoint her. So she replied in a playful tone, "I wonder how the hell are we going to reach home in this traffic?"

NT would have none of it, "Don't change the topic now Geet. Answer me? Do you believe in miracles?"
Geet replied in a final tone, "Yes, I believe in miracles but only we can make it happen. I work hard so that I can save lives. I want to explore and see the world. Which is why I have accepted the UNICEF offer!"
NT was thrilled, "Wow Geet really? I didn't know your bhaiis would be so cool about it."

Geet who was munching on her samosa accidentally put the whole into her mouth and choked on it. NT quickly helped her with some water.
"Calm down Geet. Now don't tell me you didn't ask them yet"
Geet smiled weakly. "They are MY bros. You know they never say no to me"
NT "True that"
NT smiled. She was happy for Geet and her accomplishments. But the thought of being away from her made her sad, "yaar how am I going to manage without you?"
Geet "Common NT, my scholarship is only for a year. You will be busy with house surgency and all. And after that we have loads of time for our combine studies and fun." Geet winked and with that the girls strode out of the auditorium where the seminar was being held.
